Civil servants' role in policy making impacts growth: Prez
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu extended heartfelt greetings on the occasion of Civil Services Day and acknowledged the crucial role played by civil servants in shaping the country's governance and development.
President Murmu on Monday led the tributes by lauding the contributions of civil servants across the country. Taking to X, she wrote, 'Greetings to all civil servants on Civil Services Day! Your role in public service, your contribution to policy making and implementation have impacted the well-being of citizens and development of the country. May you play a commendable role in enabling the country realise its ambitious objectives and set new benchmarks in good governance.' Union Home Minister Amit Shah also praised the tireless commitment of India's bureaucrats.
In his message on X, he stated, 'On Civil Services Day, extending best wishes to our civil servants. Whether it is executing the schemes and policies or delivering good governance, our civil servants have served with a firm commitment. May this day further strengthen their commitment to serve the nation.'
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended his greetings, recognising the significant role civil servants play in ensuring national progress and citizen welfare. 'Greetings and warm wishes to all civil servants and their families on Civil Services Day. They have been playing an important role in furthering India's progress and ensuring the citizen welfare. May this day inspire them to continue serving the nation with renewed zeal and excellence,' he posted on X.
Civil Services Day is observed annually on April 21 to honour the hard work and dedication of India's civil servants. The day commemorates the historic address delivered by India's first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, to the probationers of the Administrative Services in 1947, in which he famously referred to civil servants as the 'steel frame' of India.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also marked the occasion by highlighting the integrity and dedication of civil servants.
'Hearty congratulations and best wishes on 'Civil Services Day' to all the dutiful civil personnel who are the basis of the progress of society and nation! Your devotion and dedication are the biggest identity of your work. Your tireless hard work and honesty give new impetus to positive change in the society every day,' he posted on X.

Karnataka chief minister seeks Centre's help to bail out mango farmers
Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has urged Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to intervene and address the issues faced by mango farmers in Karnataka due to the sharp decline in market prices. In his letter to Chouhan, Siddaramaiah has requested immediate steps to implement a price deficiency payment scheme (PDPS) under market intervention scheme (MIS) for mangoes as an urgent policy response. He stated, "Necessary direction may be issued to designated central procurement agencies to initiate procurement operations immediately at an appropriate intervention price, ensuring that farmers receive at least the minimum cost of cultivation as a safety net." Siddaramaiah explained that the market price, which earlier was around Rs 12,000 a quintal, has now plummeted to as low as Rs 3,000. The cost of cultivating a quintal of mangoes is around Rs 5,466, leaving mango growers unable to recover even their basic input costs. "This has led to protests and growing agrarian anxiety. Unless prompt and effective intervention is undertaken, this crisis may lead to serious socio-economic consequences in the region," he stated. M K Stalin CHENNAI: Chief minister M K Stalin said BJP and RSS were trying to erase the rich history of Tamil Nadu everyday despite abundant scientific evidence to back its glorious past. 'When it comes to Keeladi and the enduring truth of Tamil heritage, the BJP-RSS ecosystem recoils — not because evidence is lacking, but because the truth does not serve their script,' he said sharing on social media a story about Keeladi published by TOI on Friday. TOI reported that radiocarbon dating by US based Beta Analytics laboratory has confirmed that the articles recovered from the Keeladi site date to 6th century BCE. 'Of the 29 radiocarbon samples dated by TN state archaeology dept since 2017-18, the earliest was from 580BCE and the most recent from 200BCE,' the report said. 'Even when confronted with carbon-dated artefacts and accelerator mass spectrometry reports from international laboratories on the Keeladi excavations, they continue to demand more proof. And here is the 'proof,' he said. The Union govt has put on hold publication of the report submitted to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) by archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishnan who headed two phases of Keeladi excavations, citing the need for more scientific validation of the antiquity of Keeladi. 'We fought for centuries to unearth our history. They fight everyday to erase it. The world is watching. So is time,' he said. State minister for finance Thangam Thennarasu too shared the TOI story on X and said Tamil history has given a scientifically backed response to those who sought more evidence. 'The Dravidian model government, which has been showcasing the antiquity and rich history of the Tamil land through archaeological studies, has increased this year's allocation for excavation work from Rs5 crore to Rs7 crore, in yet another example of the CM's commitment,' Thennarasu said. Meanwhile, DMK's student wing announced a protest in Madurai on June 18 demanding that the Union govt make public the Keeladi report. Teach students about Keeladi: Minister to teachers
Trichy: School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi urged teachers to teach students about Keeladi and its historical importance while the Union govt is resisting to present the real history of Tamil culture. Speaking at an introductory event of his new book on National Education Policy (NEP) at Jamal Mohammed college on Friday, the minister said the book was written to oppose the NEP as it was against students, parents and every other stakeholder. Nagapattinam VCK MLA Mohamed Shanavas, who spoke before the minister, also accused the Union govt of attempting to "erase" and attack Tamil Nadu's rich history. "It's there for everyone to see. Despite enough scientific evidence, the Union government continues to undermine the Keeladi finding and question it," he said. About 350 teachers and headmasters from across the district, along with around 100 other attendees, participated in the event.
