Teach students about Keeladi: Minister to teachers

Time of India2 days ago

Trichy: School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi urged teachers to teach students about Keeladi and its historical importance while the Union govt is resisting to present the real history of Tamil culture.
Speaking at an introductory event of his new book on National Education Policy (NEP) at Jamal Mohammed college on Friday, the minister said the book was written to oppose the NEP as it was against students, parents and every other stakeholder.
Nagapattinam VCK MLA Mohamed Shanavas, who spoke before the minister, also accused the Union govt of attempting to "erase" and attack Tamil Nadu's rich history. "It's there for everyone to see.
Despite enough scientific evidence, the Union government continues to undermine the Keeladi finding and question it," he said.
About 350 teachers and headmasters from across the district, along with around 100 other attendees, participated in the event. Earlier in the day, the chief educational officer had convened a meeting at the same venue with high school and higher secondary school headmasters to discuss admissions and the post-reopening status in their schools.

Meanwhile, some teachers said they did not attend the event willingly. "Apparently, a directive was sent from the education department to our headmaster asking that ten teachers attend the event. The HM asked me to go, so I came. But given a choice, I wouldn't have travelled this far for something unrelated to my work," said a govt schoolteacher who left the hall as soon as the minister's speech ended. A headmaster from a govt-aided school, who had also attended the earlier official meeting, said, "It's unfair to keep us back for another two and a half hours for what feels more like a political event than an official one relevant to us.

Truth will shock many: Dassault CEO tears down Pakistan's fantasy of shooting down Indian Rafales

Dassault Aviation CEO Eric Trappier has dismissed Pakistan's claim of having brought down three Indian Air Force Rafale jets, calling the statement 'factually incorrect.' In an interview with a European publication ahead of the Paris Air Show (June 16–22), Trappier addressed the recent India-Pakistan military tensions (May 7–10). When asked whether reports of India possibly losing a Rafale jet had sparked concern in defence circles, he replied, 'India has not made any official statement, so the exact situation remains unclear.' He further added, 'What Pakistan is claiming about downing three Rafales is simply not true.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh: Unsold Furniture Liquidation 2024 (Prices May Surprise You) Unsold Furniture | Search Ads Learn More Undo Trappier concluded by saying, 'When the complete details are known, the reality may surprise many. In combat, success isn't defined by zero losses but by the mission's accomplishment.' Pakistan claims to shot down Indian Rafale jets Live Events Pakistan had claimed it shot down five Indian jets, including three Rafale fighters, during India's Operation Sindoor and no official confirmation has been made. However, several reports, citing experts, have now debunked this claim as false, devoid of any physical evidences. India launched Operation Sindoor In swift retaliation, the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor, a high-intensity, precision military operation targeting terrorist launchpads and training camps located in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan. The operation, planned with strategic coordination among Indian Army, Air Force, and intelligence agencies, reportedly neutralized multiple terror camps and inflicted significant damage to the terrorist infrastructure. The operation targeted key locations that were believed to be safe havens for terror groups responsible for the Pahalgam massacre. The Ministry of Defence had stated that all necessary precautions were taken to avoid civilian casualties during the cross-border action, and that the Indian response was focused solely on neutralizing terror threats. Terror attack in Pahalgam In a tragic and deeply disturbing incident, heavily armed terrorists originating from Pakistan launched a brutal attack in the tourist town of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the loss of 26 innocent lives. The attack, which took place in the early hours, sent shockwaves across the nation and reignited widespread calls for decisive action against cross-border terrorism .

From mortgages to immigration: What the U.S. is getting wrong, according to JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon says the U.S. is falling short on key domestic issues, from immigration to housing and education, and needs to refocus on policies that fuel long-term national strength. Speaking at the 2025 Data + AI Summit in San Francisco alongside Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi, Dimon voiced concern over what he sees as America's missteps—particularly in immigration policy. He strongly endorsed a merit-based system, calling it vital to the nation's future. 'America's role is indispensable,' Dimon said. 'It's not because we're better—it's because we have the strongest military, the most prosperous economy, and the freedoms that have always attracted people here. That's what makes us who we are.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Knee Pain After 50? People come here to be Americans, to embrace freedom of speech, freedom of enterprise—those are our foundations.' Live Events But immigration is just one area where he believes the U.S. is underperforming. Dimon listed several domestic failings: 'We don't do mortgage policy well. We haven't done immigration policy well. We don't do affordable housing policy well. And we don't teach work skills properly.' His remarks come as the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown on immigration, particularly targeting undocumented immigrants—an approach at odds with Dimon's call for a more inclusive, skills-focused system. When asked about China and U.S. leadership, Dimon underscored the importance of American dominance in both defense and technology. 'American military leadership is essential to maintaining a free and democratic world,' he said. He warned against transferring critical technologies to China, especially those that could enhance its military capabilities. 'You do not want to give them nano chips that improve their supersonic missiles,' he said, adding that when China sets its mind to something, 'they put 50,000 engineers on it.' Dimon's wide-ranging remarks highlighted a central message: America's global standing depends not just on its strength but on fixing what's broken at home—starting with smarter immigration and economic policy.

Minnesota lawmakers shot: What was found in gunman's car? AK-style rifle, ‘No Kings' flyers and more

(AP photo) As law enforcement agencies continue their massive manhunt for a man who fatally shot a Democratic state lawmaker and her husband in Minnesota's Brooklyn Park early Saturday, a chilling discovery inside his fake police vehicle is shedding light on what may have motivated the deadly rampage. He also opened fire at another Democratic Senator John Hoffman and his wife, who were seriously wounded by gunshots. Authorities revealed that the suspect, identified by police sources as Vance Boelter, had outfitted an SUV to resemble a police cruiser, complete with lights, a badge, a Taser, and tactical clothing. But what investigators found inside the car has now added a disturbing layer to the case. A massive stack of handwritten "No Kings" flyers was recovered from the vehicle, according to state patrol officials, linking the suspect to a growing wave of anti-Trump protests planned nationwide for Saturday, including across Minnesota. — JesseRodriguez (@JesseRodriguez) Officials also recovered several AK-style firearms from the suspect's vehicle, a person told Associated Press. 'The photo is of flyers inside the vehicle of the suspect in today's shootings,' read a post by Minnesota State Patrol alongside an image of the leaflets, which were found on the seat of the ditched car. The flyers, which simply read 'No Kings,' echoed the theme of demonstrations denouncing President Donald Trump. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Although no direct connection has yet been confirmed, authorities said the suspect also carried writings that mentioned the names of several lawmakers, including the victims. Despite the discovery, "there is no confirmed link between the gunman and the No Kings event," said State Patrol Col Christina Bogojevic. The attacks, which officials are calling "a politically-motivated assassination," began around 2am when the suspect, dressed in a vest, blue pants, and shirt, posed as a law enforcement officer and opened fire inside the home of state Sen. John Hoffman in Champlin. Both Hoffman and his wife were seriously wounded. Moments later, the gunman moved on to the Brooklyn Park residence of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman. He fatally shot the Democrat and her husband before engaging in a gunfight with responding officers. The shooter managed to flee on foot and remains at large. Governor Tim Walz, who had been scheduled to speak at one of the now-cancelled anti-Trump rallies, described the killings as a targeted political attack. 'This was a politically-motivated assassination,' Walz said. In response, state officials issued an urgent warning to Minnesotans, asking them to avoid demonstrations across the state 'out of an abundance of caution.' 'Given the targeted shootings of state lawmakers overnight, we are asking the public to not attend today's planned demonstrations across Minnesota,' state patrol said in a statement. The attack sent shockwaves across the state, with organizers of several 'No Kings' protests opting to cancel events in the wake of the tragedy. But some demonstrations went ahead regardless, despite warnings of further potential threats. Police continue to search for Boelter, while also combing through the materials in his abandoned vehicle, including the chilling flyers, to determine whether the shooting spree was part of a broader plot. Officials are expected to provide further updates as the manhunt and investigation progress.
