Winnipeg Jets goaltender Eric Comrie has earned a sponsor's exemption for the 2025 running of the Manitoba Open, set to be held at Breezy Bend Country Club from August 21-24.
The Manitoba Open is an official PGA Tour Americas Fortinent Cup event and will host Comrie as an amateur alongside the field of professionals in the four-day event. It will mark the tournament's first running at Breezy Bend since 1993.
A number of Jets players have suited up in the tournament over the past few years, with the Manitoba Open offering a sponsor's exemption to Mark Scheifele in 2018 and 2022, Kyle Connor in 2019, Morgan Barron in 2023 and Dylan Samberg in 2025.
Comrie, a product of Edmonton, has spent the bulk of his career in Winnipeg, split between the AHL's Manitoba Moose and the Jets. He currently has a membership at the Shady Canyon Club in Irvine, California.
'I'm very excited to play in this year's Manitoba Open. Golf has become such a passion of mine in recent years and the opportunity to play with professionals who are on the verge of becoming tomorrow's stars is a special opportunity,' Comrie said.
'I'm really looking forward to the challenge of competing in such an important event to the community of Winnipeg and Manitoba. I'd also like to thank the tournament organizers and host committee, along with Breezy Bend, for the invitation.'
A 2013 draft pick, Comrie is entering his 10th season in the league and owns a 33-36-3 record over 77 games. He has four shutouts, a 2.39 goals against average and a .898 save percentage to his name. Comrie's busy summer continues, after serving as the Jets' spokesman at the 2025 NHL Draft and travelling to Michigan to surprise Connor Hellebuyck with the Hart and Vezina Trophies.
True North Youth Foundation's Project 11 is the main charitable recipient for the annual PGA Americas event. Since 2010, the Manitoba Open has raised nearly $1 million dollars - one third of which has gone to TNYF.

WHL Standouts At The 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup: Gold & Bronze Medal Games

The 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup wrapped up on Saturday with Team USA winning Gold and Team Canada winning Bronze. Both games were close to the end, with the Americans and Canadians winning by a combined five goals. Just like they have for the entire tournaments, WHLers played key roles for their teams, with Noah Davidson, Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll and Daxon Rudolph having standout performances. Noah Davidson, Team USA Davidson had a game to remember against Sweden. The Medicine Hat Tigers forward recorded a goal and an assist en route to a 5-3 victory in the Gold Medal game. If Davidson can be a similar net-front presence once he gets to the WHL, then he is going to be a problem for opposing defenders next season. Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll, Team USA Gordon-Carroll was able to have an impact for Team USA despite not recording a point. The Tigers forward was constantly being mentioned on the broadcast and was used in the final minutes to help secure the Gold Medal. Fans in Medicine Hat should start to get excited, as between Gordon-Carroll, Davidson and the Ruck brothers, the Tigers have built what should be an exciting team in 2025-26. Daxon Rudolph- Team Canada Rudolph played a key role in Canada's 3-0 win over Finland. The Prince Albert Raiders defenceman recorded an assist on the Canadian first goal of the game, and the scored the empty netter which solidified the win. If anything, Rudolph's performance throughout the tournament showed why he is considered a top prospect for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. Goalie Gavin Betts perfect as Canada earns bronze at Hlinka Gretzky Cup

BRNO — Gavin Betts had a 22-save shutout as Canada earned bronze at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup with a 3-0 win over Finland on Saturday. Cooper Williams, Ethan Belchetz and Daxon Rudolph supplied the offence as Canada won its 30th medal at the under-18 men's hockey tournament. The Canadians fell to the United States in a 4-3 shootout loss in Friday's semifinal. 'It was tough to lose in the semifinals because we came here to try to win gold, but sometimes things do not work out the way you want them to," said Belchetz. "We were a little down after yesterday's game, but we wanted to leave here with a medal and bring something home to our families." Canada has won 25 golds, three silvers, and two bronzes since the international event was first held in 1991. William Gammals stopped 27 shots in net for Finland. The U.S. beat Sweden 5-3 for gold later Saturday. The Hlinka Gretzky Cup will be held in Edmonton in 2026. It will be the fifth time the international under-18 showcase is played in Canada, with Alberta previously hosting three times (Edmonton – 2024; Red Deer - 2022; Edmonton and Red Deer – 2018). Canada won gold at all three of those tournaments, defeating Czechia 2-1 in the 2024 final. 'We are thrilled to bring the Hlinka Gretzky Cup back to Edmonton next year, and to kick off the 2026-27 hockey season with the top under-18 players from eight countries competing for a gold medal,' said Dean McIntosh, Hockey Canada's senior vice-president of revenue, fan experience and community impact. 'This is a prestigious tournament with a deep history that is an important part of the international hockey calendar, and we look forward to hosting a world-class event for teams, players and fans next August.' Rangers INF Marcus Semien out of lineup Saturday because of sore left wrist

TORONTO (AP) — Texas Rangers infielder Marcus Semien was out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game at Toronto because of a sore left wrist. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Semien was going for X-rays. Semien was hit by a 91 mph fastball from Toronto's Chris Bassitt in the second inning of Friday's 6-5 loss. He remained in the game and hit a two-run homer off Louis Varland in the eighth. Semien had played in 122 of Texas' first 123 games. The three-time All-Star last sat April 13 at Seattle. Ezequiel Duran started at second base for the Rangers on Saturday. ___ AP MLB:
