
KPDN proposes broader access to essential items for SARA aid recipients
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali (picture) said KPDN had proposed that recipients be allowed to use their SARA aid at mobile Jualan Rahmah MADANI Programme (PJRM) locations, in addition to existing participating retailers.
He said, at present, recipients of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid could only purchase basic items at 4,152 participating supermarkets and retail outlets across the country, including 470 in Sabah.
'This initiative enables SARA recipients, particularly in rural and interior areas, to use the aid credited to their MyKad to make purchases at mobile PJRM locations,' he told reporters after launching the Sabah Zone KPDN Carnival 2025 here tonight.
Armizan said the additional RM300 million allocation for PJRM would enable KPDN to increase its frequency nationwide, with a target of 20,000 series throughout this year.
'For Sabah, KPDN is targeting 2,276 PJRM series throughout this year, and as of July 26, a total of 1,089 have already been implemented. We will adopt several approaches to ensure the target is achieved by year-end,' he said.
He said the approaches included increasing the range of items offered and enhancing cooperation with strategic retail partners.
'Through these improvements, the people will have more choices. The ministry can no longer act alone as it did in the past. For example, today's PJRM is carried out in collaboration with retail partners,' he explained.
Commenting on today's programme, this was the second year KPDN had implemented the programme, adding that six carnival tours would be held across the country this year.
'The carnival in Ranau, held in conjunction with the Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign (KBBM), is the second in the series this year, and we expect around 60,000 visitors throughout the three-day event,' he said.
Armizan said that the main goal of the initiative was to bring government services, particularly those under KPDN, closer to the people, especially at the grassroots level.
'The KPDN Carnival 2025 also serves as a catalyst in empowering KBBM through the theme 'Jom Beli Lokal' as part of ongoing efforts to support local products and strengthen the domestic economy. It is also a strategic move to boost domestic economic growth while helping local entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises expand their market reach.
'At the same time, this initiative provides a platform to showcase the quality of local products, which can become the preferred choice and ultimately reduce reliance on imported goods,' he said. –BERNAMA

At the same time, a study on the factors behind price differences in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan was launched this year. A separate Price Stability Committee has been established for each state. He said that the committee, co-chaired by himself and Sabah Minister of Community Development and People's Well-being, Datuk James Ratib, will evaluate five key items in Sabah, including chicken prices. Armizan also said a preliminary report had already been presented by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for Sabah and Labuan, while Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) is conducting the study for Sarawak. 'UMS has proposed five essential items that can be addressed in the short term to solve the issue. Drug price transparency kicks in at private clinics and pharmacies, full enforcement by January 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) are implementing the drug price display initiative at private health facilities and community pharmacies in stages starting August 1. According to a joint statement by both ministries, the initiative, which was implemented under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking of Medicines) Order 2025 [P.U.(A) 141/2025] under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, began on May 1. The statement said the educational enforcement approach was implemented in the first three months ending July 31. 'During the period, 842 facilities consisting of medical clinics, dental clinics and private hospitals as well as community pharmacies were inspected and the majority of them have implemented this initiative with 57 per cent of them complying with the requirements for satisfactory drug price display,' according to the statement. In this regard, enforcement will continue in stages from August 1 through educational approach inspections and advocacy for two months until September 30 and a reminder letter may be issued in the event of non-compliance. According to the statement, starting October 1, compounds would be issued for repeat offences before full enforcement on January 1, 2026. MOH and KPDN also took note of the judicial review action filed in the High Court by seven organisations representing medical and dental practitioners and one private medical practitioner regarding the validity of Order PU (A) 141/2025. 'However, until this statement is issued, there is no court order directing the suspension of the implementation or enforcement of this order. Therefore, Order P.U.(A) 141/2025 remains valid and in force,' according to the statement. MOH and KPDN also expressed their commitment to implement the initiative in an inclusive, phased and prudent manner to ensure that its benefits are enjoyed by consumers and contribute to increasing transparency, accountability and trust in the country's health system. — Bernama
