US president announces talks with Iran next week

THE HAGUE: US President Donald Trump has praised what he described as a swift conclusion of the war between Iran and Israel. He noted that the United States is likely to pursue a commitment from Tehran to abandon its nuclear ambitions in upcoming talks with Iranian officials next week. Speaking from The Hague during the NATO summit, Trump expressed confidence that Iran was unlikely to resume any efforts to develop nuclear weapons. He indicated that discussions with Iranian representatives are scheduled for the following week and suggested that a formal agreement could be on the table, though he personally did not view it as essential. Trump conveyed his belief that Iran would opt for a diplomatic route rather than trying to rebuild its nuclear infrastructure, saying the country is focused on recovery rather than escalation. He remarked that Iran has little interest in pursuing nuclear enrichment at this point. He also made clear that if Iran did attempt to revive its nuclear program, the United States would not stand by. While ruling out immediate military action, he said that the US would not permit such a development and expressed hope that some form of constructive relationship with Iran could eventually emerge to resolve the issue.

Shura Council Office condemns attack on Al Udeid Air Base

DOHA: In a meeting, chaired by Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, the Shura Council Office has strongly condemned the attack on Al Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on Monday, stressing that it is a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and airspace, as well as a breach of international law and the United Nations Charter. The Council Office expressed its denunciation of this completely unacceptable act, which is inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness and the close relations between the two countries at the official and popular levels in various fields. It noted that the State of Qatar has always been an advocate of dialogue with Iran, and it has exerted great efforts in this regard. From day one, Qatar strongly condemned the Israeli attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran and stood in solidarity with it. The Shura Council commended the role played by the Qatari Armed Forces, under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in repelling the attack. It also lauded the role of all relevant authorities in the country and their handling of this attack with a well-thought-out action plan that limited its effects and reassured citizens and residents. The Office noted the solidarity shown by all brotherly and friendly countries, expressing the Council's gratitude to parliamentary organizations for their solidarity with and support for the State of Qatar, and their rejection of this attack. In the same context, the Council Office welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Israel, which began yesterday, appreciating the efforts of the State of Qatar in this agreement, which confirms its ongoing role in establishing peace and stability in the region, on the one hand, and its adherence to a policy of good neighborliness with Iran despite its aggression, on the other hand.
