Blues suffer double injury blow, Magpie skipper back
Silvagni underwent surgery after fracturing his hand in an exchange with Patrick Dangerfield in the first quarter of the Blues' round-seven win over the Cats.
It is hoped the defender will spend just one week on the sidelines, but he could miss two games.
Flat that both of the boys won't be out there this weekend, but looking forward to seeing them back out there real soon 🙌And a massive shoutout to SOS, who played through the pain for four quarters to perform a crucial role for the team in a big Navy Blue win 💙 https://t.co/iKYrXGg1Hu pic.twitter.com/ro02qieQLM

Blues forward Williams has been ruled out for two weeks with a calf strain.
He suffered the injury after kicking a goal in the first quarter against Geelong.
Moore returns for the Magpies after vertigo symptoms related to an inner-ear issue ruled him out of last week's Anzac Day win over Essendon.
He is available for selection, while teammate Lachie Schultz faces a test following a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Adelaide are set to regain forward Riley Thilthorpe against Carlton, but they have lost defender Nick Murray for at least four weeks to knee surgery.
Thilthorpe has been cleared to play in Saturday's match after seemingly suffering a compound finger fracture in their 18-point loss to Fremantle on Friday.
His bone had pierced the skin, but the Crows confirmed on Tuesday that Thilthorpe had suffered a minor fracture.
Thilthorpe is expected to be joined in the forward line by Darcy Fogarty (shoulder), while Murray will require an arthroscopy on his troublesome knee.
Murray has continued to experience discomfort after jarring his knee at training earlier in the season, with scans proving inconclusive.
The defender could spend four to six weeks recovering after the surgery.
Luckless Sydney forward Logan McDonald could also go under the knife after suffering a stress fracture in his fibula, having already recovered from ankle surgery.
Swans defender Sam Wicks (calf) is in the frame to play in the Sydney derby, but skipper Callum Mills (foot) remains a week-to-week assessment as the club waits on scans regarding Ben Paton's calf strain.
Fremantle ruck Luke Jackson (hamstring), St Kilda's Mattaes Phillipou (leg), North Melbourne defenders Zac Fisher (hamstring) and Matt Whitlock (ankle), and Melbourne duo Jake Melksham (leg) and Daniel Turner (concussion) are all available for selection.
Hawthorn have lost defenders Karl Amon and Jack Scrimshaw to concussion, while Essendon pair Matt Gueli (hamstring) and Nik Cox (calf) will make their return to football via the VFL.

Latavius Murray's tone-setting touchdown is the Saints Play of Day 28
The New Orleans Saints begin their 2025 season against the Arizona Cardinals in just 28 days. To celebrate, our Saints Play of the Day will honor a surprising fan-favorite that just hung up the cleats: Latavius Murray. Murray wore the No. 28 jersey for New Orleans for two years (and a single game in 2022), becoming a fan favorite with his rough style of running, which perfectly complemented Alvin Kamara. It was tough following up Mark Ingram, but Murray did a nice job with 303 rushes for 1,350 yards and 10 touchdowns as a second option with the Saints. The specific play we are taking notice of today was a tone-setter against the Carolina Panthers back in Week 12 of 2019. Drew Brees started the game out 4-for-4 with 41 yards, thanks mostly to big gains by Ted Ginn Jr. and Michael Thomas. You can watch the highlight scoring play for yourself here. New Orleans gave the ball to Murray on first down, and he ended up rumbling his way to the end zone. He showed some nice patience and vision to find a hole and took it the rest of the way, finding an angle to get past the defense unscathed. It was the opening score in what turned into a 34-31 barn burner that the Saints came out on top of. Murray led the team in rushing, picking up 64 yards and that score on just seven carries. Brees had a vintage performance through the air, going 30-for-39 with 311 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.

Cardinals QB Kyler Murray explains interception against Chiefs in preseason opener
Murray said he didn't get enough on the throw. The Arizona Cardinals opened their preseason schedule on Saturday with a 20-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at State Farm Stadium. They rallied back from a 14-3 second-quarter deficit. The starting offense played just over a quarter, playing two possessions and scoring three points. Quarterback Kyler Murray both looked good in his limited time on the field, but he also threw a critical interception in the red zone of the Cardinals' first possession. Murray explained what happened after the game. Essentially, he underthrew the ball. 'I just didn't get enough on it," he said postgame. "That's something that in practice, I'm never really rolling out full speed as if somebody's actually going to tackle me. It's kind of weird to explain. I've just got to get more on it. I'm glad it happened though, because I would hate for that to be New Orleans, and it means something.' Chiefs safety Jaden Hicks also baited the throw. Hicks made it look like he was coming back down to cover Trey McBride, who was closer to the line of scrimmage and at the sideline, leading Murray to believe that he could just drop the throw in over the top to get to Marvin Harrison Jr. Murray, who hadn't played in the preseason since 2021, was happy to get full-speed reps and have to make throws against players who are allowed to hit and tackle him. Even in full-speed practices, it isn't the same for Murray, as defenders are not allowed to hit the quarterback or tackle players to the ground. "That's something that you can't replicate in practice, moving around at the speed that you're moving at, going left to right lateral, having guys move and bodies moving," he said. We don't know yet whether or not Murray will get anymore preseason action. Starters traditionally do not play in the final game, and the Cardinals will have a joint practice this coming week ahead of their preseason game against the Denver Broncos. The last two years, following joint practices, the Cardinals' starters have not played. While no one wants to see Murray turn the ball over, the offense ran well. He completed all his other passes, getting the ball to five different pass catchers. They moved the ball. They just didn't finish their drives. If that is all Murray does in the preseason, it should give some good momentum toward the regular season. One pass, one TD: Mahomes, Chiefs get off to good start in 20-17 preseason loss to Cardinals
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Quarterback Patrick Mahomes spent some time before Saturday's preseason game running up and down the Kansas City Chiefs sideline, yelling, jumping and psyching himself up for his first game action since last season's Super Bowl. He was ready — for all 48 seconds of it. Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl champ entering his ninth season, took advantage of a short field after the Arizona Cardinals fumbled the opening kickoff, hitting Jason Brownlee for a 1-yard touchdown and an early 7-0 lead less than one minute into the game. Arizona rallied for a 20-17 win over Kansas City in the preseason opener for both teams. Mahomes said coach Andy Reid told him before the game that he'd play just one series, but it was an even shorter night than he imagined. 'One series turned into one throw,' Mahomes said, grinning. The TD pass was Mahomes' only completion of the game, ending a brief, effective outing. Backup Gardner Minshew took over on the next series and ran for a 2-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Harrison Butker made a 58-yard field goal. Mahomes' final line: 1-for-1 passing for 1 yard and one touchdown. The three-time defending AFC champions were playing for the first time since losing last season's Super Bowl 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles. 'There were some good things,' Reid said. 'I thought the (starters) played well when they were in, they were sharp. After that, we were too sloppy. Too many penalties, going backward.' While Kansas City got off to a good start, Arizona did not. The Cardinals fumbled their first two kickoff returns, though they recovered the second one. Kyler Murray — playing in his first preseason game since 2021 — was intercepted on the offense's opening drive on a pass intended for second-year receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Murray's second drive was hindered when tight end Tip Reiman was called for a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. The miscue was part of the reason the Cardinals had to settle for a 33-yard field goal by Chad Ryland. Murray chose to remain positive about the outing, saying that even with the mistakes, it was good to get on the field and play at game speed. 'You can't replicate it in practice, moving around with the speed that you're moving, going left to right, lateral, bodies moving. I had fun. I had a lot of fun out there,' Murray said. Murray played two drives, completing 7 of 8 passes for 96 yards and the interception. Tight end Trey McBride caught one pass for 21 yards and Harrison had a catch for 15 yards. The Cardinals trailed 14-3 early but Emari Demercado caught a 43-yard touchdown pass to cut the margin to 14-10. Xavier Weaver caught a 1-yard touchdown pass that gave the Cardinals a 17-14 lead at halftime. Both touchdowns were thrown by Arizona's new backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who completed 5 of 8 passes for 81 yards. The Cardinals outgained the Chiefs 355 yards to 249. Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon echoed Murray's positive outlook, even after the early mistakes. 'The team — not just Kyler — understood why we're doing what we're doing tonight,' Gannon said. "They were excited to get under the lights. That's the AFC champs coming in here. Andy Reid — Hall of Fame coach. They were excited to play a really good team, get lathered up and bang a little on someone other than themselves. 'It was good to see our guys ready to roll.' The Cardinals — who are trying to make the playoffs for the first time since 2021 — finished last season with an 8-9 record, which was a four-win improvement over the previous season. Arizona revamped its defensive front during the offseason, adding Josh Sweat, Dalvin Tomlinson and Calais Campbell. Chiefs: Cornerback Jaylen Watson (concussion protocol) left the game in the first half. Safety Deon Bush (Achilles tendon) was carted off the field in the second quarter. Cardinals: Gannon said postgame that offensive lineman Christian Jones had a knee injury. Chiefs: visit the Seahawks on Friday, Aug. 15. Cardinals: visit the Broncos on Saturday, Aug. 16.
