
Drag racing driver caught on Newport dual carriageway
The incident took place on Sunday, October 20 last year, Cwmbran Magistrates' Court was told.
Melville, of Poplars Close, Mardy, Abergavenny pleaded guilty to taking part in a race/speed trial between motor vehicles on a public way.
He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

PC Elliot Morgan, the officer in the case, said: 'Our roads are not racetracks and there are so many potential risks when people decide to drive as recklessly as this.
'We're taking action, through Operation Wheeler, to target irresponsible motorists who participate many different types of anti-social driving, including street racing or illegal car meets, on our streets and bringing them before the courts.
'Dangerous driving isn't worth the risk; it can cost you your licence, your freedom, your livelihood and even your life.'

Newport woman charged over £600 for fly tipping offences
Veronika Dunkova, 42, from Newport, was fined £600, and ordered to pay costs incurred by the council of £941.17 and a victim surcharge of £240 by Cwmbran Magistrates' Court. She was prosecuted under Section 108 of the Environment Act 1995 for failing to assist the council with its enquiries following a fly-tipping incident at Court Road Industrial Estate in Cwmbran. A member of the public had reported seeing a vehicle dumping plasterboard, wooden panels and bags of wallpaper cuttings on April 25. An investigation identified the vehicle was registered to Mrs Dunkova and enquiries were made to try to clarify the circumstances, but she failed to respond. She was issued with a legal notice under Section 108 of the Environment Act 1995 requiring her to attend an interview with council officers to assist with enquiries, which she also failed to do. Mrs Dunkova failed to attend the Cwmbran Magistrates' Court hearing last month, but the offence was proven in her absence. Councillor Mandy Owen, Executive Member for the Environment, said: 'Not complying with a Section 108 legal notice to assist an investigation is an offence and we will use our legal powers where appropriate to enable our officers to effectively execute their duties."
