Hindu Munnani prints 50 lakh flyers for event in Tamil Nadu
TIRUCHY: Framed as a spiritual gathering, the 'Muruga Bhakthargalin Aanmeega Maanaadu' scheduled in Madurai on June 22 is positioned by right-wing groups, including the RSS, Hindu Munnani, VHP, and BJP as one of the largest religious mobilisations in Tamil Nadu in recent times.
The event, which centres on the collective chanting of Kanda Sashti Kavasam, is also seen by saffron groups as an exercise to invoke Hindu identity and reinforce cultural consolidation.
Unlike the earlier Vel Yatra, this time, the mobilisation is done by approaching devotional gatherings in temples, meeting pilgrimage groups and inviting seers of mutts, Hindu sects, dominant OBC-caste groups.
Organisers have roped in not just Murugan devotees but also followers of Sai Baba, Aadhiparasakthi, Mariamman, and over a dozen caste-based outfits.

"Sent to lap of China": BJP's Nishikant Dubey 'blames' Congress for overthrow of Nepal monarchy
New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nishikant Dubey on Monday held the Congress responsible for ending the monarchy in Nepal, calling it the 'only Hindu nation in the world.' Dubey repeated a claim by a former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) intelligence officer, Amar Bhushan, who was tasked with unseating King Birendra and helping former Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, to come to power. 'Congress's foreign policy is nepotistic, and India is suffering the consequences of this. The only Hindu nation in the world ended today,' Dubey said in a post on X. Dubey claimed that in the 1980s, India sent Nepal on the 'lap of China,' by imposing customs duty and imposing sanctions on goods going to Nepal. He said that the economic pressures increased after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi visited the Pashupatinath temple in the country, but his family was refused entry by the temple management. 'Entry of any non-Muslim is prohibited in Mecca Masjid or the city; similarly, entry of non-Hindus is prohibited in the Pashupatinath temple of Nepal. In 1988, the then-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi went to Nepal; he wanted to visit the temple, but the temple management refused. India increased customs duty on all goods going to Nepal against the religious sentiments of King Birendra,' Dubey's post read. Citing a news article which quoted former RAW officer Amar Bhushan, Dubey said that the officer was given the responsibility of dethroning King Birendra and making 'China-backed' Prachanda as the PM. 'Due to fear of war, King Birendra made an agreement with China for arms and food items, meaning Nepal went into the lap of China. Under the guise of this agreement, India imposed an economic blockade against Nepal in 1989. The matter did not end here. RAW intelligence officer Amar Bhushan, who is still alive, was given the responsibility of removing King Birendra and making Prachanda, the leader of the China-backed party, the Prime Minister. Nepal is no longer a Hindu nation,' he added. Former PM Rajiv Gandhi visited Nepal in December 1988 with his daughter and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, where she was denied entry into the temple. Following his visit, Nepal's External Affairs Minister also visited Delhi in January 1990, and later an official-level delegation visit comprising of the Nepalese Foreign Secretary and the Defence and Commerce Secretaries in February of the same year. Notably, there have been multiple protests in Nepal which are demanding the reinstatement of the royalty, with the royalists launching a new round of the protest on May 30. Nepal transitioned from a monarchy to a republic just 17 years ago, on May 28, 2008. Encouraged by rising frustration with the incumbent system, the royalist group of about 40 different factions has been demanding restoration of the Hindu kingdom, abolition of federalism, and a directly elected prime ministerial system, among other things. Restoration of the constitutional monarchy has been their main demand. The royalist group claims to have started a 'joint people's movement' had formed a committee and attempting to block the roadways for the parading cadres of the ruling parties, and the police held the royalists on the side until the ruling party's parade passed by. The royalist right-wing Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), the fifth largest party in the lower house of parliament, claimed that it would bring 25000 people onto the streets. As per the Nepal Police estimate, about 3000 protestors hit the streets of Kathmandu. Countering the protests, the ruling CPN-UML (Communist Party of Nepal--Unified Marxist Leninist) held a march on the streets of Kathmandu in defence of the republic. The PM KP Sharma Oli-led party organised a march in Kathmandu on Republic Day, entitled 'Republic Mahotsav.' (ANI)

Rival camps offer divergent views of government as they battle it out in Nilambur
With open campaigning for the high-stakes Nilambur Assembly byelection set to conclude on Tuesday, opposing fronts offered voters starkly different views of the second Pinarayi Vijayan government. Opposing campaigns battled exhaustively over human-wildlife conflict mitigation, the economically crippling wildlife raids on farmlands, the cratering of the agrarian economy, the 'shoddy' development of National Highway 66, and the 'abandoned' LIFE housing mission for homeless people. Even as they sparred over courting communal forces for votes, the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), and Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) said almost in the same breath on Monday that neither the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nor the independent candidacy of P.V. Anvar would have any impact on the outcome of the bypoll. Notably, the UDF's 'acceptance' of the allegedly radical Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami support continued to dominate the political narrative in Nilambur, even as opposing campaigns intensified their door-to-door efforts to ensure voter turnout. The Jamaat factor Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan alleged that the UDF's desperation to court the Jamaat-e-Islami in Nilambur stems from the fact that the LDF's good governance had rendered Opposition's campaign toothless. The UDF's brazen move to give political space to the Jamaat-e-Islami raised the spectre of empowering Hindu majoritarian forces in Kerala. Mr. Govindan said the BJP was not a factor in Nilambur. 'The votes won by the BDJS, a BJP ally, in previous elections, would not fall into the NDA's kitty in this byelection,' he said. 'Just also-rans' All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal said the fight was between the LDF and the UDF. He said the poll outcome would relegate others in the fray to also-rans. Mr. Venugopal said the LDF government had left the State's infrastructure development, welfare, and economic health in a shambles. He said the LIFE Mission had ground to a halt and the LDF had withheld social welfare pension payment for the needy and released them only on election eve as 'voter-inducement.' The second LDF government has nothing to crow about and is raising the spectre of communal politics to hoodwink the voters. He accused the CPI(M) of raising the bogey of communalism citing Jamaat-e-Islami's support for the UDF. He said the LDF's gambit was to provoke voting on religious lines in Nilambur. 'If some persons support the UDF, it does not necessarily entail that Congress endorses their ideological line. The Congress is not an arrogant party to shun the support of voters, irrespective of the ideological leanings or faith,' he said.

'Fighting Indian state' remark: Court to hear case against LoP Rahul Gandhi on Jul 18
A local court on Monday set July 18 to hear a case against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his contentious remarks on "fighting the Indian state itself". Additional District Judge (ADJ-II) Aarti Faujdar set July 18 as the next hearing owing to the absence of Gandhi's lawyer and his junior requested for the next date, petitioner's counsel Sachin Gupta said. He said they sought a direction from the court to ensure Gandhi's presence in court. During the inauguration of the Congress' new headquarters in Delhi on January 15, Gandhi alleged that the BJP and the RSS had captured every institution of the country and said, "We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS and the Indian State itself." Petitioner Simran Gupta, from an outfit called Hindu Shakti Dal , said, "On January 15, Leader of Opposition (in the Lok Sabha ) Gandhi, during the inauguration of the Congress' new headquarters in Delhi, had said that 'our fight is not only with the RSS and the BJP but also with India state." Live Events This comment demonstrates disrespect towards the citizens and democracy of the country, the petitioner said. "Rahul Gandhi's statement deeply hurt the sentiments of people across the country. I had earlier approached the District Magistrate and the SP in Sambhal, but no action was taken. As a result, I filed a case on January 23 in court." The court had previously asked Gandhi to appear on April 4 and later extended the date to May 7 for submission of his response. In the last hearing in May, when Gandhi's counsel was absent, a junior lawyer sought adjournment, which the court allowed and posted the matter on June 16.
