PCMC@50 Citizen Survey crosses halfway with 10K responses so far
The PCMC@50 Vision initiative continues to gain momentum with over 10,000 citizens taking part in the survey aimed at shaping Pimpri Chinchwad city's development roadmap ahead of its 50th anniversary in 2032. In addition to the citizen survey, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has also launched an internal employee survey to gather their responses and insights for the said initiative.
Conducted across all eight zones of the city, the citizen survey is being implemented by over 250 trained women from various Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Till May 23, a total of 10,000 responses have been collected through SHG outreach, with 91 citizens choosing to submit their feedback independently via the digital route. On May 23 alone, 1,000 additional responses were recorded, the civic administration said.
PCMC commissioner Shekhar Singh said, 'This initiative is not just about data collection—it's about building a shared vision for the city's future. I encourage all citizens and staff members to participate wholeheartedly. Every response brings us closer to a more inclusive, efficient and forward-looking Pimpri Chinchwad.'
Citizens are encouraged to fill out the survey independently by scanning the dedicated QR code available on the official PCMC website, at ward offices, and at various public locations. This digital self-submission option provides a quick and easy way for residents to contribute their feedback.
The citizen survey will continue in the coming days, and widespread participation is crucial to ensure that the city's growth plans reflect the real needs and aspirations of its people, officials said.

Pimpri Chinchwad civic body to take action as cheque bounce cases rise in property tax payments
PUNE : After the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation witnessed a surge in cheque bounce cases in property tax payments, the civic body has started issuing notices and initiating legal actions against defaulters. A senior official from the property tax department confirmed that in March 2025 alone, 780 cheques amounting to Rs 10.15 crore were dishonoured—the highest number recorded in recent years. It is a persistent issue which compelled the civic body to tighten its enforcement, especially during the final quarter of the financial year when tax recovery efforts intensify. According to official data for March, Thergaon topped the list with 235 bounced cheques involving dues of Rs 3.71 crore, followed by Bhosari with 97 such cases totalling Rs 1.57 crore. Both localities are dominated by industrial and commercial establishments that usually prefer cheque payments. Civic officials said the defaulters are given a two-week period to clear their dues. If payments are not made within the stipulated time, PCMC will initiate property attachment proceedings. "These defaulters will no longer be allowed to use cheques for payment," a senior official said. Explaining the recurring pattern, an official from the property tax department said, "Our recovery teams visit defaulters far more frequently in the final quarter with an aim to increase tax collection. To avoid immediate action like property seizure, many owners hand over post-dated cheques and promise to maintain sufficient balance. However, many of them fail to do so." Officials said they have observed a spike in such cases in March due to heightened recovery drives. These bounced cheques not only delay the collection process, but also increase administrative workload. Currently, there are 6.3 lakh properties registered with the property tax department in Pimpri Chinchwad . Last year, PCMC collected Rs 966 crore in property tax. "Normally, we accept cheques with a clearance window of just one or two weeks based on the situation," said the official. He further said they discussed an option to discontinue cheque payments, but since many genuine taxpayers also use this method, the proposal was dropped. "However, we are considering implementing it for March every year," he added. An official from the property tax department also confirmed that they received over Rs 200 crore in property tax every year via cheque payment which indicates that a large number of taxpayers prefer cheque payment to pay their dues.

PCMC raises ₹ 200 crore through green bond
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has raised ₹ 200 crore through a green municipal bond. This is the first Green Municipal Bond floated by a civic body, which received an overwhelming response from investors, the officials said on Wednesday. According to the officials, the issue floated on the BSE's Electronic Bidding Platform via private placement attracted bids worth ₹ 513 crore, oversubscribing the offer by 5.13 times. The base issue of ₹100 crore was fully subscribed within one minute of the issue opening, reflecting robust investor confidence, said the officials in a statement issued on Tuesday. Offered at a competitive coupon rate of 7.85%, the bonds are rated 'AA+' by CRISIL Ratings and CARE Ratings, with a tenure of five years. The structured repayment mechanism is secured through an escrow of Property Tax collections, ensuring timely servicing of interest and principal payments, they said. As per officials, this is also India's first Municipal Green Bond issued exclusively for a sustainable mobility project. These funds will accelerate the green infrastructure journey, supporting key projects like the Harit Setu in Nigdi Pradhikaran and the redevelopment of Telco Road from Gawali Matha to Indrayani Nagar Chowk — both contributing to PCMC's commitment to sustainable and climate-resilient urban development. Shekhar Singh, municipal commissioner, PCMC, said, 'The overwhelming response to our Green Bond is a testament to the trust that investors place in Pimpri Chinchwad's vision for a sustainable future. This funding will help us accelerate critical green infrastructure projects and strengthen our resilience against climate change.' As per officials, this is PCMC's second municipal bond in two years, following the successful ₹ 200 crore issue in July 2023.
