West Cobar Metals (ASX:WC1)
Investors reacted strongly after West Cobar Metals completed the purchase from IGO of the Mystique gold project in Western Australia's Fraser Range, believing it may represent a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
Shares more than doubled to a daily high of 3.1c, an increase of 107% with more than 77m shares changing hands.
West Cobar believes the project is highly prospective for orogenic gold deposits and is encouraged by strong results returned by the IGO/Rumble Resources (ASX:RTR) joint venture at the Themis prospect, just 250m outside of, and north of, the Mystique project boundary.
While exploring the adjoining tenements, the JV encountered gold intercepts in saprolite and bedrock that included 25m at 2.42g/t gold from 42m, including 5m at 10.85g/t from 49m, and 16m at 6.69g/t from 42m, including 4m at 22.2g/t from 50m.
Mystique, which covers 35km2 within the Albany-Fraser Province and is about 225km SSE of Kalgoorlie, remains relatively unexplored as most of the area is covered by 30m or more of transported Eocene sediments and there is little surface expression of geology or mineralisation.
'We are delighted to have completed the acquisition of the Mystique Gold Project,' West Cobar Metals' managing director Matt Szwedzicki said.
'The tenement comprises a key land area with exceptional and immediate potential for both shallow saprolite hosted and large-scale basement hosted gold deposits.
'We have identified two high priority targets which justify immediate exploration drilling."
There are Immediate targets at Mystique, supported by widespread drill intersected gold anomalism in transported cover and saprolite, and WC1's intentions are:
To drill test the palaeochannel/saprolite and bedrock gold mineralisation that is likely to extend southwards into West Cobar's ground (Themis South prospect);
To drill test and define significant gold mineralisation targets in the saprolite and basement rocks at the Torquata prospect; and
Drill program being prepared to follow up key targets.
Completion of the acquisition of IGO's 100% interest in tenement E28/2513 occurred following the satisfaction of conditions precedent.
MTM Critical Metals (ASX:MTM)
It has been a strong week for MTM Critical Metals, rising 51.43% to 53c, a new record high, after fielding strong antimony recoveries from US e-waste using its proprietary Flash Joule Heating technology.
The company achieved 98% recovery of the critical mineral and extracted 3.13% antimony from printed circuit board feedstock, with the grade far exceeding that of typical mined ore.
Even China's largest antimony deposits — which dominate global supply — average just 0.5% to 0.7% antimony, making e-waste a vastly richer and largely untapped alternative.
The material had been thermally pre-processed to strip out plastics and volatiles, producing a dense, metal-rich carbon-based residue.
MTM Critical Metals views the results as clear proof of the technical strength and strategic promise of its Flash Joule Heating technology for recovering critical metals from e-waste.
Flash Joule Heating works by passing an electric current through metal-bearing material, rapidly elevating its temperature to more than 3000 degrees kelvin.
This vaporises the target metals as chlorides in seconds and collects the vapours for refining.
'This result demonstrates the strong technical and commercial potential of our FJH process for recovering strategic metals from e-waste,' MTM managing director and CEO Michael Walshe said, adding:
'Achieving 98% recovery of antimony at over 3% grade, from domestic urban feedstock, is particularly significant given the US currently has no meaningful domestic Sb production.
'With antimony designated as a critical metal by both the DoD and DoE, these outcomes reinforce MTM's ability to contribute to onshore supply solutions for high-priority metals. 'Combined with our recently secured, pre-permitted demonstration site in Texas, we are well positioned to scale operations and advance commercial deployment.
'In parallel, the company is engaging with US government agencies, including the DoD and DoE, regarding potential funding to support domestic critical metal recovery.
'While early-stage and non-binding, these discussions reflect strong interest in scalable US-based refining technologies.
'The strategic role of antimony in defence, particularly in armour-piercing alloys and flame-retardant systems, was a consistent theme during recent meetings in Washington.'
Antimony is an essential metal for munitions, semiconductors, batteries and flame retardants, yet the US lacks meaningful domestic production and depends heavily on imports from China.
This reinforces MTM Critical Metals ability to contribute to onshore supply solutions for high-priority metals.
The company has locked in more than 1100 tonnes per year of e-waste feedstock under agreements with US suppliers, providing a strong foundation for commercial deployment.
Bastion Minerals (ASX:BMO)
After being reinstated to the ASX on May 21, 2025, Bastion Minerals is making progress, with a newly appointed leadership team; a review of projects in Chile, Sweden, Australia and Canada; an Exploration Work Permit granted for its ICE copper-gold project in Yukon Province Canada; and an upcoming maiden JORC resource estimate for ICE.
A considerable jump in the company's share price to 0.4c has seen BMO field a price query from the ASX, prompting a trading halt while it prepares a response and details of the resource estimate.
On reinstatement Bastion's non-executive chairman Gavin Rutherford said: "Bastion's recommencement of trading marks a significant and exciting turning point. We have a refreshed board to provide focused leadership and renewed commitment to delivering shareholder value.
'As investors, the incoming board members recognise the value and fantastic potential of the overseas projects in BMO's inventory.
'Our preferred direction is to unlock the potential of these projects through generating partnerships, positioning BMO with equity exposure in the project whilst the selected partner invests and acts to unlock its potential.
'For BMO shareholders this is the best way to combine timeliness, effective investment and shareholder weighted outcomes on three international fronts.
'Meanwhile, Australia has no shortage of gold-weighted projects available, with many of them residing in the hands of private owners.
'We are working through multiple opportunities with an eye to bring projects into BMO that are paid for via exploration. There is no need to expose BMO to the inherent risk of a project purchase when, in my mind, the best due diligence we can execute is via on-ground exploration that resides within a traditional earn-in model.
'We will crawl before we walk, we will build wealth in the company through prudence and I am very much looking forward to BMO shareholders joining us on this journey.'
Subsequently, the company was granted a work permit for ICE, with Rutherford stating: "We are very grateful to have received this consent from the Tu idlini Lands Department and the Ross River Dena Council for our ICE Copper-Gold Project in Yukon.
'The consent is a vital access step in our pathway to getting 'boots on ground'.'
In light of volatile met coal prices and markets, another company moving in the right direction at last is Coronado Global Resources, which has lifted 15.2% to a daily high of 19c and has risen 90% during the week.
Encouragement has come from a refinanced debt facility with private equity firm Oaktree Capital Management, bringing another player into the potential bidding for the company after reports Czech bargain hunter Pavel Tykac's Se.Ven Global Investments had bought up around US$40m of its debt last month.
The new three year asset-based lending facility comprises $75m to be drawn at financial close with the remaining $75m to be drawn in $25m increments over 12 months.
There will be no testing of leverage and interest coverage financial covenants for the June 2025 quarter, with covenant thresholds from Sept 2025 onwards 'designed to afford the business flexibility' in the current low price environment.
Met coal futures are running at around US$183/t. But that's for the really high quality stuff.
Then, in response to media speculation, Coronado Global Resources advised on Thursday that it is in confidential discussions with Stanwell Corporation regarding potential changes to its coal-supply agreements with Stanwell.
These will potentially provide up to US$150 million in near-term liquidity to Coronado (not in the form of a loan) with Coronado to provide access to additional coal supply for Stanwell to support its power generation capacity.
Waratah Minerals (ASX:WTM)
Turning heads in the copper-gold prolific Macquarie Arc of Central West NSW with an aggressive exploration program at the Spur project is Waratah Minerals, which was 15.5% higher to 41c.
Spur is just 5km west of the Cadia Valley Operations of Newmont and the emerging discovery is showing similar geological markers to those seen in the multi-million-ounce Cowal and Boda systems in the same region of the Lachlan Fold Belt.
The company has a dual focus at Spur with two rigs targeting a large epithermal gold system, while a third rig – the second diamond drill – is set to return to Breccia West prospect to follow up promising porphyry intercepts such as 108m grading 0.52% copper and 0.22g/t gold from surface to end of hole.
Exploration has outlined a broad zone of epithermal stringer and lode-style mineralisation, accompanied by porphyry-style alteration – characteristics consistent with the upper levels of a larger porphyry system, akin to those found elsewhere in the Macquarie Arc.
'We're getting very busy on the ground and getting more confidence, we're recognising what is important in the rocks,' Waratah managing director Peter Duerden said.

Barry FitzGerald: Prodigious gold region a yellow brick road for Arika
'Garimpeiro' columnist Barry FitzGerald has covered the resources industry for 35 years. Now he's sharing the benefits of his experience with Stockhead readers. In a $5100/oz-plus Aussie gold market there is nothing quite like a big targeted exploration program in a prodigious gold region to get the interest up. And so it is with Arika Resources (ASX:ARI), which has been attracting followers of late on the strength of its 10,000m drilling program at two projects in the Leonora-Laverton district. It is funded for the hunt after a $5 million capital raise in May and at a share price of 3.9c for a market cap of $33.5 million, Arika has plenty of leverage to exploration success. Investors won't die wondering with this one, as there will be a steady flow of exploration results over the next 6-12 months. Both of the company's projects – Yundamindra and Kookynie – are surrounded by the region's big name producers like Genesis, Northern Star and Gold Fields, among others. As recent activity in the region has demonstrated, there are plenty of options around toll treatment/ore purchase/acquisitions should Arika work up a deposit that is measured in the hundreds of thousands of ounces rather than the millions of ounces category. Arika is after the big discovery for sure. It's just that in this gold price environment there is plenty of value to be had with smaller finds. Think of it as a potential value backstop while Arika continues the hunt for the game changing discovery. Where is the game changer? Both of Arika's projects are peppered with historic workings which are obvious drilling targets. But there are also a bunch of targets hidden from oldtimers by cover. Geophysics and geochemical work leading up to the drilling program has taken what could be called high-priority targets to more than 50. Arika reported first results from drilling at the F1 Fault at the Landed at Last prospect at Yundamindra on Monday. The best intercepts included 4m at 41.56g/t from 52m and 27m at 2.45g/t from 61m, and they've served to rev up interest in the stock. F1is one of several north-east trending structures which cross-cut Landed at Last's mineralisation towards the northern end of what Arika, without blushing, calls the Yellow Brick Road. It is a mineralised structural corridor than extends for more than 16km along the western flank of the Yundamindra syncline. A 10km section of the Yellow Brick Road is dotted with historical workings. Despite its location and history of gold mining, the Yundamindra area has only ever been lightly explored. What modern era drilling was conducted by previous owners was mostly shallow at less than 50m. Before the latest drilling Arika tested for depth extensions, with the deepest hole to date at the prospect returning a super encouraging 14.8m grading 3.1g/t from 87m. More where that came from Arika boss Justin Barton said on Monday that it was important to remember that F1 was just one of the many under-explored prospects along the Yellow Brick Road. Garimpeiro reckons Dorothy most likely agrees. The drill rig motored on from F1 to another highly ranked prospect called Bonaparte (assays pending) and is now testing the Banjo's Camp prospect. As indicated earlier, assay results from the drilling campaign will be rolled out on a regular basis. Over at Kookynie, Arika shares tenement boundaries with Genesis Minerals (ASX:GMD). An aeromagnetic survey has been completed at the Ithaca prospect, which sits immediately along strike from Genesis' Ulysses gold mine. Like the prospective areas at Yundamindra much of the prospective ground at Kookynie is on mining leases, which means if there is a near-term opportunity to monetise a smallish discovery while the search for the big one goes on, Arika will be able to act quickly.

Esperance Port users brace for levy hikes following exit of key customers MinRes and First Quantum Minerals
Users of another WA port have been whacked with fee increases following on from big hikes ushered in at the Port of Fremantle. The State Government-owned Southern Ports told customers as of July 1 they would be hit with a new fee schedule featuring blanket increases across pilotage, navigation services, berth hire, mooring and wharfage charges. The increases to the Port of Esperance come as the port grapples with the exit of several major customers and a weaker commodity market. Latest results for parent Southern Ports — which also runs the Bunbury and Albany ports — showed profits had dropped from $61.4 million in 2023 to $21.5m for 2024. Total traded tonnes across the three ports were also down from 37.1 million tonnes to 35.3mt. The largest of the price hikes will be applied to vessel mooring and unmooring fees, which have been hiked by 27 per cent. It means a carrier mooring at the Port's largest berth would be paying approximately $4194.50 — or $1130 more — to park up for less than four hours. Scheduled hikes on Fremantle Ports' ship and cargo charges — the highest of which had been 295 per cent — triggered backlash among its customers who lashed charges as an 'excessive cash grab'. Notable remaining exporters through the the Port of Esperance are junior miner Gold Valley Iron Ore, grain handling major CBH and battery metals miner IGO. Mineral Resources had been shipping iron ore through the port from its Yilgarn operation until the end of 2024. The idled mine was then sold to Yilgarn Iron Investments in June. First Quantum Minerals had also been a user of the port until cratering nickel prices forced the Ravensthorpe nickel mine shut in April last year. And it's expected the port will lose IGO as a customer once the Nova nickel mine in the Fraser Range comes to the end of its life at the end of next year. Despite the declines operators were encouraged by a sharp uptick in yearly fertiliser imports reported last month. Southern Ports chief executive Keith Wilks said charges were reviewed annually to ensure the port stays 'competitive and continues delivering value to the State. Meanwhile, Pilbara Ports has elected to extend a 'sustaining infrastructure due' that had been due to expire on June 30 2025 for another 12 months. A spokeswoman said Pilbara Ports, government trading enterprise, was expected to trade 'in a commercial manner'.

Gold Digger: There's a sector of the market doing EVEN BETTER than gold producers
Gold developers are beginning to outperform gold producers, even as the giants of the industry print cash Lion Selection Group says ASX developer/assessors are sitting on +80% gains in 2025 Evolution pumps up dividend after record year This week has been notable for the start of the gold's financial reporting season – the big one with the ASX's gold mining class uploading their financial year results to a thirsty shareholder base baying for dividends on the back of a year of record gold prices and profits. Back to that in a few pars, but for now, we're taking a look at a quarterly report that may have slipped through to the keeper for some. It's the Lion Selection Group (ASX:LSX) investor update, which has a pretty interesting statistic enclosed. Gold juniors, and resources microcaps in general have been left in the mud by large caps since the end of the post-Covid boom in 2022. But they're just starting to lead a resurgence according to some sleuthing from Lion, which has backed that sector of the market heavily in recent years. Gold producers have had a good run in 2025, outpacing the 28% lift in USD gold and 22% in AUD gold with a 40% YTD rise. But assessment and development stage companies, those looking to bring deposits into production in the coming months and years, have doubled that growth in percentage terms, lifting a heady 81% so far this year. To put that into context, the ASX All Ords gold sub-index is now looking at a 43% YTD return. Revenge of the nerds Lion CEO Hedley Widdup has largely been deploying the cash earned from the sale a few years ago of a stake in an Indonesian gold project into Australian gold names with development potential in recent years. Since January 2022 it's boasted 89% portfolio gains, with $40.9m in cash still in hand to deploy. A few months ago the fundie moved the needle on his patented mining investment clock to 5 o'clock, a sign that the next boom and end of the most recent (and relatively short-lived) bust could be near. According to the Lion clock, 6 o'clock is the point when the next upcycle begins, with midnight heralding the peak of the market and a coming bust. Lion's portfolio includes one junior producer in Brightstar Resources (ASX:BTR), with advanced developers in Medallion Metals (ASX:MM8), Saturn Metals (ASX:STN) and Antipa Minerals (ASX:AZY) all among its big winners so far this year. At the earlier stage, its gold investments include Queensland gold and copper explorer Sunshine Metals (ASX:SHN), Great Boulder Resources (ASX:GBR), NSW market darling Koonenberry Gold (ASX:KNB) and the unlisted Plutonic. Lion holds $17.9m in cash in legacy investments, largely companies with overseas projects outside the gold space, with investments made since January 2022 amounting to $73.5m. Speaking to Stockhead last week, Widdup said the market was beginning to wake up to the need to head down the ladder and look at juniors developers to access the next phase of gains for the gold sector, with commodity prices in excess of $5000/oz for months now. "I think that's probably the market waking up, maybe, to the bargain – maybe saying I've got my money in the producers and I'm recycling some money out of them into the next risk level down and I'm doing it with a perspective around who's most likely to get developed or bought," he said in an interview. M&A is one of the value drivers for these companies. Warriedar Resources (ASX:WA8) is being hunted by Capricorn Metals (ASX:CMM) in a $189 million scrip bid, the latest in a slew of deals announced across the WA gold space. Warriedar's Golden Range gold and antimony resource, including the large Ricciardo deposit, is 3km from 29Metals' Golden Grove copper, gold, silver and zinc mine and located to the northwest of CMM's Mt Gibson development. "I think that's probably helping the juniors across the space, you know, there's speculation sneaking in about M&A, the gold price set up is great already, but then that sentiment is starting to filter through." Widdup says the most strategic developer M&A targets are those juniors with more than 1Moz in resources and proximity to a growth hungry mid-tier – either geographically or via a big brother on its register. He views Antipa as a natural target for Greatland Resources (ASX:GGP), with its 2.5Moz Minyari Dome project located in the Paterson province near the massive Telfer gold mine. Another is Medallion, which has Alkane Resources (ASX:ALK) on board as a significant shareholder. It's eyeing ASX 300 inclusion after a merger with TSX-listed Mandalay Resources which will marry its Tomingley mine in NSW with the Costerfield gold-antimony mine in Victoria and Bjorkdall gold mine in Sweden. The firm also has the large Boda porphyry in its back pocket, but Medallion's Ravensthorpe gold project shapes as a much speedier, if smaller scale development with the company signing binding terms on the acquisition of IGO's Forrestania nickel plant ahead of a late 2025 FID. The other one Widdup is looking at closely, outside of Lion's portfolio this time, is Magnetic Resources (ASX:MAU) and its Laverton project, which is located next door to Genesis Minerals' (ASX:GMD) Laverton mill. "Genesis has just put its foot on everything that surrounds (MAU MD) George Sakalidis. So, you know, that was an easy one to speculate about as well," Widdup said. While MAU has been up a more pedestrian 21% YTD, MM8 and AZY have been leading lights among gold small caps, lifting 162% and 111% YTD respectively. Evolutionary science And now to the large caps, where Evolution Mining (ASX:EVN) has delivered the first major hit of financial reporting season, nearly tripling its final dividend to 13c. The $260 million payout was a positive start for gold bulls, coming on top of a 7c interim dividend and 260% higher than the 5c divvie paid out at the end of FY24. Evolution's profit after tax shined bright, up 119% to $926.17m. It's a tasty entree for ASX gold investors, with reporting season to get much busier from the start of next week. The gold and copper miner noted its average price for the year came in around $800 below current spot, with each $100m lift in the gold price equating to $70-80m in profit. The ~$400 million paid out over the interim and final dividends clocked up to ~40% of all dividends ever paid by the company to 2024. Talk about a gold boom. Those strong cash flows are expected to continue into 2026, with MD Lawrie Conway resisting the temptation other miners have given in to, keeping prices for resource and reserve shells where they are to preserve margins. He previously issued a note of caution to the gold sector at this month's Diggers and Dealers mining forum, warning that while gold prices were strong today they shouldn't just be chased higher and that at some point they will reverse. Star Minerals (ASX:SMS) It was a quiet week for the Mid West WA gold explorer, which is planning to start mining at the small Tumblegum South gold project in the first quarter of 2026. That could be a tidy little money spinner, with pre-production costs of just $700,000 to $1.5 million predicted on a mine that would generate $9.4-19.6m in cash flow on just 11,800-15,900oz of gold production. And that's at prices ranging from $3000-3800/oz, well below current levels. Mining approvals are in train, with the new streamlined process for small mining operations under the Mining Amendment Act 2022 to come into effect with the laws on September 9 this year. There was a touch of intrigue this week, with Star's creeping share price prompting a trading halt on Thursday. It's due to end on Monday when Star exits the halt to respond to not only the speeding ticket, but also with some much anticipated RC drilling results. Only time will tell what's in store. Dateline Resources (ASX:DTR) Yet more enthusiasm for Donald Trump's (apparent) favourite ASX name this week, having ridden the wave of support from the US Department of Defense and Apple for the nearby Mountain Pass rare earths mine higher this year. Its 1.1Moz Colosseum gold mine in California sits around 10km from MP Materials. It doesn't have any rare earths resources yet, in spite of what commentary from the States and the frightfully named Truth Social might have you believe. But DTR did confirm some high priority rare earths drilling targets in a 3D magnetotelluric survey, identifying a large resistive anomaly with signatures characteristic of carbonatite hosted REE systems. Dateline, too, copped a speeding ticket this week, telling the ASX there was no new info to report outside the Monday announcement on the MT survey. We're now talking a $640m market cap and +5300% gain for DTR this year so far. Good if you can get it.
