The world's funniest countries revealed — and Brits won't be happy
And, whether it's deadpan delivery, playful banter or self-deprecating sarcasm, each country has its own comedic signature.
If your ideal holiday includes more than just lounging on the beach or ticking off tourist attractions, and you want a place where the locals make you laugh, you might want to listen up.
A new global ranking has named the world's funniest countries. But Brits shouldn't get too cocky. We might be a nation of dry humour and relentless sarcasm, but the UK hasn't even made the top 10.
In a survey by Remitly, over 6,000 people across 30 countries were asked to complete something called the Humour Styles Questionnaire.
It's a psychological tool created in 2003 by researcher Rod Martin, designed to examine not just if someone is funny, but how they express their humour.

The winner? Perhaps surprisingly, it was Czechia (formerly the Czech Republic).
Scoring 72.33 out of a possible 112 on the questionnaire, the Czechs came out top thanks to their strength in self-defeating humour.
They also scored high for aggressive humour, which Remitly describes as 'a potent mix of self-deprecation, razor-sharp irony, and expertly wielded sarcasm.
The Czech humour isn't loud or performative; it's dry and operates on well-placed jabs and deadpan delivery.
According to Remitly: 'Czechs have refined humour into a survival tool, using wit as psychological armour that has evolved into a defining national characteristic.'
In second place was Portugal, scoring 71.42. Remitly says Portuguese humour leans more into affiliative and aggressive styles, leaving them with a sense of humour that blends warmth and wit.
'Known for quick-thinking jokes, they often use humour to charm, tease, and disarm,' it explains.
Ireland took third place with 71.18 – a result that probably won't shock anyone who's ever been around someone from Ireland. According to Remitly, Ireland scored high for affiliative and self-enhancing humour.
'This may align with the Irish's reputation for friendliness and excellent storytelling. It's a great combination of humour styles, leading to citizens of Ireland being sharp, charming and relatable.' More Trending
Belgium followed close behind (71.12), with Chile and Greece tied for fifth at 71.08.
As for the UK? Eighteenth. Behind Canada and just ahead of South Africa. A ranking that may leave British comedy fans clutching their box sets of Peep Show and The Office in disbelief.
Hey, at least we weren't in last place. Sorry, Norway, we hate to break it to you.
Czechia Portugal Ireland Belgium Chile Greece Australia Poland Denmark Hungary Switzerland Netherlands France Mexico Austria Estonia Canada UK South Africa Norway.

AFL WAG Jesinta Franklin debuts her blossoming baby bump in silk gown at Melbourne International Film Festival ahead of welcoming third child
Jesinta Franklin has shown off her baby bump for the first time. The AFL WAG, who is expecting her third child with her husband Lance 'Buddy' Franklin, debuted her blossoming baby bump at the Melbourne International Film Festival on Thursday night. The 33-year-old stunned in a pale blue, silk gown which skimmed over her bump as she cradled it in her hands. The strapless number was cut in a maxi length, and she paired it with glistening ruby heels. Jesinta matched her lipstick and man manicure to her shoes, going for a fire-engine red, otherwise keeping her makeup subtle. She wore her brunette locks in a retro bob, and finished the look with a silver chain that sat on her clavicles. The WAG recently shared one of her pregnancy cravings - and it turns out she eats it straight from the tin. Jesinta proudly showed off an image of a half-eaten tin of baked beans with the lid peeled back, and a spoon resting in the saucy goodness. 'Obsessed with baked beans right now,' she wrote beside the image, alongside a pregnant person and crying face emojis. Jesinta announced her pregnancy in an Instagram post in early June. In a candid video, Jesinta shared a silhouette of herself cradling her growing baby bump while her two children, daughter Tullulah, five, and son Rocky, four, played around her. One segment showed Rocky kissing his mum's pregnant belly. 'Tullulah and Rocky are getting a baby brother or sister for Christmas. The most beautiful surprise of all,' the model captioned her post. She continued: 'Our hearts are full and yet, we share this news with deep sensitivity. I know that announcements like this can be incredibly hard for those who are walking the path of infertility or loss. My heart is with you, always.' In another slide, the model shared a candid selfie pretending to be asleep. 'The reality of the last 6 weeks. House, couch or bed bound given the odd occasion. Finally succumbed to medication and it's been game changing,' she captioned the image of her resting beside Buddy. She went on to express her gratitude and revealed the couple will be keeping the child's gender a surprise this time around, alongside an image of a pregnancy test. 'An absolute blessing,' she began. 'Even though we thought we were happy and done with two beautiful children, we have been lucky enough to add another to the family. 'Life works in mysterious ways and I'm leaning into this next chapter with a grateful heart. 'Lulu and Rocky are beside themselves and can't wait to meet their baby. 'Keeping the gender a surprise this time around,' she added.

Portugal travel warning as summer strikes to hit six airports
The strikes held by SPdH/Menzies ground staff are affecting Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Madeira, Porto Santo, and the Azores, with disruptions scheduled every weekend in August More travel chaos is on the horizon as airport workers in Portugal go on strike. Every weekend until the end of August, SPdH/Menzies ground staff who handle bags at Portugal's main airports will walk out. Backed by the SIMA union, they're protesting low wages, unpaid night shifts, and a broken pay agreement after Menzies Aviation's takeover. These strikes are affecting Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Madeira, Porto Santo, and the Azores, with disruptions scheduled every weekend in August: August 8–11, August 15–18, August 22–25, and August 29–September 1. The Portugal strikes come as a union in Spain announced its Ryanair workers would strike at 12 airports in the coming weeks. Have you been impacted by the Portugal or Spain strikes? Email webtravel@ Holidaymaker 'horrifically burned as Shein top reacts with suncream' The impact is expected to hit major UK airports too — including London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh — with Ryanair, easyJet, and BA set to reduce capacity. Up to 60 UK flights a week could be affected, disrupting travel plans for more than 10,000 people. Although the strike is operated by ground staff, its impact is widespread. Airlines like easyJet, Ryanair, British Airways, Wizz Air, and regional carriers will operate at reduced capacity, meaning 50–60 UK flights will be impacted, affecting 9,000–10,800 Brits per week. Key UK airports impacted include London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Liverpool. Aviation experts at AirAdvisor have noted that passengers can claim up to £1,600 in compensation if their bags are lost during the flight. The company has launched a one-of-a-kind online tool available for free that allows travellers to instantly check whether compensation is possible in the case of lost, delayed, or damaged baggage, based on their flight, airline, and route. Passengers can request reimbursement for essential purchases (clothing, hygiene products, medication) made while waiting for their bags. In some cases, they may also be eligible for a fixed compensation of up to £1,600. This compensation applies when luggage is officially declared lost (after 21 days with no update), returned in unusable or severely damaged condition, or if the delay caused a real, documented financial loss, for example, during a business trip or a significant event. Founder of AirAdvisor, Anton Radchenko, said: 'Many travellers don't realise that, in the case of lost or delayed baggage, airlines are still responsible, even during a strike. This is clearly established by the Montreal Convention: unless the airline can prove it took all reasonable measures to prevent the damage, it is liable for compensation. "Our tool lets you know within seconds whether you can claim compensation for lost, delayed, or damaged luggage. To date, no other service offers anything this simple in Spain. The goal is to empower passengers. Too often, they give up in the face of airline bureaucracy. This simplifies everything. "Since the end of July, the situation at Portuguese airports has been extremely chaotic. Baggage handling systems are paralysed, suitcases are piling up in the terminals, and many passengers, especially Brits, are arriving at their destination without their personal belongings.
