Defensive coach filling in as Patriots DC revealed as longtime assistant
Zak Kuhr has taken over some of the defensive coordinator duties with Terrell Williams out due to health reasons.
There is currently no timeline for Williams' return, although he has stayed in contact with the coaches and players through Zoom. However, Kuhr noted that he was an extension of Williams and Patriots coach Mike Vrabel, and he has worked hard to echo their message.
Kuhr was an assistant under Vrabel with the Tennessee Titans as a quality control coach and an assistant inside linebackers coach. The two reunited with Vrabel landing the job in New England and Kuhr being brought in as a defensive assistant.
This news comes in the final week of OTAs for the Patriots.
There is hope that Williams makes a full recovery and returns as the defensive coordinator, but Kuhr's role could be extended if that isn't the case. The personnel on defense has improved significantly, but Kuhr and Williams will have their work cut out for them in turning things around.
The Patriots ranked 22nd in total yards allowed per game with an average of 342.9 yards last season, and they also ranked 22nd in points with an average of 24.5 points allowed per game.
They will have a chance to turn the page with both Vrabel and Williams being strong defensive minds. However, while Williams is gone, Kuhr has a chance to add his imprint on the unit early ahead of training camp.

Bruins legend explains how winning Stanley Cup with different team broke Boston's championship curse
The Bruins traded Ray Bourque to the Colorado Avalanche in March 2000 in order to allow him to win a Stanley Cup before his career was over. He did just that a year later in 2001. But in doing so, he also helped the city of Boston break its championship curse. Advertisement During an appearance on Julian Edelman's 'Games With Names' podcast, Bourque revealed that the string of Boston teams winning titles came after he brought the Stanley Cup to Boston to celebrate with his former fanbase at City Hall. 'What happened after that — the Patriots win in New Orleans," he said. 'And then, from that point on, the Pats win two out of three (Super Bowls), the (86-year) curse is broken with the (Red Sox), the Celtics win, the Bruins win, the Patriots keep winning, the Red Sox win again. 'It all started after the Cup came back to Boston.' Bourque was hesitant to return to Boston — the city he spent 21 years of his career in. After the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup, the late Mayor Thomas Menino's office called Bourque's agent to see if he wanted to celebrate at City Hall. Advertisement Bourque said no because he didn't want to embarrass the Bruins. But then-general manager Mike O'Connell was OK with it. The Celtics are the most recent men's Boston team to win a championship — having done so just last summer. Perhaps history will repeat itself this year for a former Bruins captain. The Bruins traded their captain, Brad Marchand, in March to the Florida Panthers so he could make another run at winning a Cup. The difference between Bourque — who was also Boston's captain at time of his trade — and Marchand, is that Marchand already a Cup to his name. The Panthers are looking to repeat as champs, whereas the Edmonton Oilers are looking to get revenge in a rematch of last year's Stanley Cup Final that saw Florida hoist the Cup. However, she explained, she'd never met him in person and only taught him over email and Zoom during the height of the coronavirus pandemic. She helped him work on his graduate thesis, which centered on "how and why criminals commit their crime," she said. Did Patriots tease major uniform change for 2025 season?
Did Patriots tease major uniform change for 2025 season? Are the New England Patriots teasing a uniform change for the 2025 season? Fans are asking the question following footage of players wearing grey game pants instead of the navy bottoms for their pictures at Wednesday's media day. The Patriots wore the grey pants throughout the Tom Brady era. That look has become synonymous with the previous success of the franchise that won six Super Bowls in Brady's near 20-year run. You can trace the origin of the look as far back as 1993, when the Flying Elvis era began. The Patriots moved to the navy bottoms to kick-start the post-Brady era in 2020. However, one has to wonder if they are considering a more permanent comeback for the grey pants. A change in uniform isn't going to magically make the Patriots a better football team, but there's hope they can draw on history and tradition to aid in their confidence in 2025. Perhaps that would be enough to help them get back to their winning ways. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
