Police bust online investment scam syndicate in Seremban

SEREMBAN: Police have crippled an online investment scam syndicate known as the 'Ah Kit Group' following a raid at Taman Bukit Kepayang here last Sunday.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said a team from the State Commercial Crime Investigation Department arrested nine locals, including a woman, based on intelligence related to the illegal scheme.
The suspects, aged between 21 and 35, are believed to have been involved in the scam. Police also seized 33 mobile phones, nine laptops, seven vehicles, and 14 notebooks.
"Investigations revealed the syndicate had been operating since January, using a house as a call centre to promote non-existent online investment schemes through messaging platforms such as Tantan, Tinder, Telegram, and Facebook. The group primarily targeted victims from neighbouring countries," he said in a statement today.
He said the syndicate offered RM3,000 salaries to call centre operators and used gated residential areas as hostels and operational bases.
Ahmad Dzaffir said the group lured victims by claiming to represent legitimate companies and promising high returns on investments.
"Once the victims transferred their money, the syndicate gave various excuses to delay or avoid payouts, eventually cutting off all contact," he said.
Although the victims were not Malaysians, he reminded the public to remain vigilant and not be easily deceived by online investment offers that promise quick and lucrative returns.
All suspects have been remanded for four days starting April 28. The case is being investigated under Sections 420 and 120(b) of the Penal Code. – BERNAMA

Syndicate using courier services to transport subsidised cooking oil busted

BUTTERWORTH: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has exposed a new tactic in misappropriating subsidised cooking oil packs using courier services following a raid on a warehouse in Kampung Sungai Puyu here today. Its Penang branch director S. Jegan said 14,380 packets of 1kg subsidised cooking oil packs were seized from the warehouse, along with a lorry and other documents, with a total value of RM204,500. "Preliminary investigations found that the wholesaler used courier services to send the packs in large quantities to an address in Perlis while the packs were brought to the courier warehouse in a lorry in deliveries of twice a month," he told reporters at a media conference at the location of the raid. A man, 60, who was the driver of the lorry was arrested after he failed to provide any license, permit or documents to conduct business, to store or use the controlled item. The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, he added. – Bernama

Caprice exposes child exploitation ring on Facebook, triggers national fury

SHAH ALAM – A Facebook group sharing explicit content involving underage children has triggered national outrage after social media personality, Caprice exposed its existence through a series of Instagram posts. With over 12,000 members, the group, believed to be active since 2014, has been condemned for its disturbing focus on school-aged children. In a strong response posted on her Instagram account, Mek Yun called on fellow Malaysians to take immediate action on the criminally dangerous group. Photo: Instagram / @mekyunn Social media influencer and actress Mek Yun, who discovered her old school photos were shared in the group, has joined Caprice in demanding speedy action. Caprice took to Instagram to reveal the existence of a Facebook group named 'Group Budak2 Sekolah Rendah,' where members share indecent content involving school children, particularly girls in uniform. Caprice stated that the group, which has now surpassed 12,000 members, openly features inappropriate comments and lewd discussions by adult men, including senior citizens. 'Admin, surrender yourself at the police station within 48 hours. If you do, I won't expose the faces of the group members, including the admin. Don't think we can't trace you...' Caprice posted in a recent Instagram Story. His investigations also revealed that the Facebook group has been active for over a decade and was run by two individuals: a man and a woman. Even more disturbing, the group was set to 'public,' making the vile content accessible to anyone online. Caprice confirmed he had lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and had also tagged the police force as well as the Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, for further action. 'I've reported it to @skmm_mcmc @fahmifadzil. God willing they will act quickly. The admin should just surrender at the police station as soon as possible. If the authorities come to your doorstep, it's going to be a big problem,' he shared in his Instagram Story. Many of the posts featured graphic language and deeply concerning remarks, with members making sexually suggestive comments on photos of schoolgirls. Mek Yun was among the individuals whose old school photos were found in the group. In a strong response posted on her Instagram account, Mek Yun called on fellow Malaysians to take immediate action on the criminally dangerous group. 'Let's all tag @pdrmsia_official @skmm_mcmc and YB @fahmifadzil.1 together. 'I'm also asking everyone to share this video and report the 'Budak2 Sek Rendah' group on Facebook. Let's destroy this group. Don't give them any chance at all to do what they want. Because this should NEVER be normalised,' her post read. Mek Yun also spoke about society's moral responsibility to protect children from such exploitation. 'Who else is going to protect those kids and our children if not us?' she asked. Public reaction has been swift and fierce, with social media users flooding the comments sections on Caprice's and Mek Yun's posts to express disgust, support and determination to see justice served. Many rallied around the noble actions of those who brought the issue to light. 'The older one gets, the closer they should be to God, not chasing lust like mad,' a commenter posted. 'Good job Caprice, fast action on this issue. Serves those old perverts right,' a comment read on Caprice's Instagram post. 'If all you think about is what's below the waist, how are you different from an animal?' an enraged comment read. Despite the overwhelming backlash and exposure, no official statement has been issued by the police or relevant authorities on follow-up action at the time of press. The public continues to tag official bodies, demanding that legal action be taken against the administrators and members of the group.

Gerik crash: Survivor recounts being thrown out, body landing on him

GERIK: The tragic accident at Km53 of the East-West Highway (JRTB), near Tasik Banding, Gerik, that claimed the lives of 15 students from the Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) must have left a traumatic impact on the survivors. One such survivor, Abdul Wafiy Kamarudin, 23, when sharing the harrowing moments with Bernama, said the accident had such a strong impact so much so he was flung out of the bus, and most terrifyingly, a victim's body landed on him. Abdul Wafiy, a sixth-semester student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, said he was looking at his mobile phone in the dimness of the night but could feel the bus was on moving quickly as it descended a winding, hilly road. "The bus driver stopped briefly to check the vehicle's brakes before continuing the journey, and suddenly at around 1am, the bus overturned, causing me to be thrown out of the window and into a drain. "The situation at that time was very I was shocked to find a body on top of me. "I was forced to push it off me to save myself," he said when met while collecting his personal belongings at the Gerik district police headquarters here today. However, the youngest among six siblings from Kampung Pak Kancil, Setiu in Terengganu is grateful because he only suffered minor injuries to his hands and face. Meanwhile, Mohd Zaki Ismail, the father to victim Rohadatul Aisy, 21, said his daughter contacted him at about 3am to say that she had been involved in an accident. "At that time, she (Rohadatul Aisy) said she was unable to move due to pain in both her neck and waist but a friend had helped carry her out of the bus. "I immediately left Kampung Gong Badang, Besut in Terengganu at 8 am and arrived at the Gerik Hospital to learn that my daughter suffered a fractured hip," he said. He also said that Rohadatul is receiving further treatment at the Besut Hospital, while he and his wife, Norliza Ghazali, are waiting to retrieve their child's personal belongings from the Gerik police headquarters. In the early morning incident yesterday, 15 UPSI students died when a chartered bus from Jertih to Tanjung Malim overturned after colliding with a Perodua Alza at JRTB near Tasik Banding. The accident also resulted in 33 others being injured, including the bus driver and conductor, as well as the driver and three passengers of the multi-purpose vehicle. – Bernama
