Celebrate Record Store Day at these Miami shops
Drumroll, please: Saturday is Record Store Day, one of the best days of the year for music lovers and collectors.
Why it matters: The annual event celebrates independent record stores locally and around the world and puts a spotlight on the surge in popularity for analog music.
The day features events and exclusive artist releases, while also highlighting the role each store — and the people that run it — plays in its community.
Stunning stat: Last year, vinyl sales hit $1.4 billion — the highest amount since 1984 — and it outsold CDs, selling 44 million vinyls to CDs 33 million, Variety reported.
What's happening: Some of Miami's most popular record stores are celebrating the tradition with giveaways, special single-day pricing, food vendors and free drinks. (Full list of participating stores found here.)
Sweat Records, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, will have new merch, DJ sets, breakfast sandos and other goodies from Oori Bakeshop and free beer. Doors open at 10am, but the line starts at 9am.
Technique Records opens at 8am with 1,000 new arrivals, coffee all day, tacos from the World of Tacos, and an outdoor lounge and sidewalk sale.
Lucky Records is claiming this year's RSD "the best one yet," with exclusives, used records and "thousands of records for just $1."

Source: Arturo Holmes / Getty For comedian Dave Chappelle, the opening monologue he gave as the host of Saturday Night Live after the 2016 presidential election isn't something he regrets. He had the chance to reflect on it during a conversation with comedian Mo Amer for the Actors on Actors series for Variety. 'I haven't watched it in a while, but I remember it fondly,' Chappelle said at the 27-minute mark of the conversation, which was shared Wednesday (June 4) after Amer asked him about his perspective on it from back then to now. The monologue went viral, as Chappelle declared that 'an internet troll' had won the White House, also pointing out his history of sexual assault. He would then segue into how he felt after former President Barack Obama won in 2008. 'And it made me very happy about the prospects of our country,' he said then. 'So, in that spirit, I'm wishing Donald Trump luck. And I'm going to give him a chance. And we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one, too.''Oh, I remember that part,' Chappelle said. 'You know what? I look at it like a photograph. That's what it felt like in that moment. Now, if it ages well or not, I don't get mad if I look at a picture because it's not today. That's what it was at that time.' He continued, 'You might look at an old set and cringe, but you could just cringe because of how you were at that time. And in that sense, I'm fine with it.' Chappelle's conversation with Amer is one of the rare moments he's opened up for media – he has declined direct interviews in the wake of brushback from jokes he made against the transgender community in his 2021 Netflix special The Closer . But he and the Palestinian comedian bonded during the COVID-19 pandemic, making this a keen opportunity for the two to talk about comedy and their perspectives on the current times particularly with Amer's hit Netflix show. The Weeknd Might Not Be Retiring His Music Persona After All
The Weeknd has teased that Hurry Up Tomorrow— his sixth album and upcoming film of the same name— also marks the end of the artist fans have grown to love for over 15 years. However, that may not necessarily be the case. While promoting the film at CinemaCon 2025, Abel Tesfaye told EW that this moment feels like both a death and resurrection. 'It feels like it [the end of the Weeknd]. I mean, I've kind of toyed with the idea in the past with albums,' he noted. 'But it could also just be a rebirth. Who knows?' Back in January, the 35-year-old announced plans to retire his alter ego. 'It's a headspace I've gotta get into that I just don't have any more desire for,' he explained to Variety. 'You have a persona, but then you have the competition of it all. It becomes this rat race: more accolades, more success, more shows, more albums, more awards and more No. 1s. It never ends until you end it.' Hurry Up Tomorrow marks the conclusion in the trilogy that began with 2020's After Hours, which was followed by 2022's Dawn FM. The film follows a fictionalized version of himself, also named Abel, who gets taken on an insane ride by a seductive stranger, Anima (Jenna Ortega). Director Trey Edward Shults, shared with EW in February that he 'tried to make the movie in a way where, for his fans and people who want to approach it at that level, I hope it's very satisfying and you get a good meal out of it.' Shults confirmed that it was an 'absolute possibility' that the movie would be The Weeknd's last hurrah chapter, adding 'For people that aren't his fans and don't know anything about him or even care about the final capping of the Weeknd, I think you still have a great movie to go through.' The Weeknd considers the film to be 'really introspective and cathartic.' It hits theaters this Friday. The Weeknd's ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow' Earns $3.3 Million Box Office Debut
The Weeknd's Hurry Up Tomorrow feature film experienced the chart-topping success shared by the singer's album of the same name. According to Variety, the movie, which stars the singer as well as Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, earned $3.3 million in its opening against a $15 million budget. The debut landed Hurry Up Tomorrow at No. 6 at the box office. Directed by Trey Edward Shults, Hurry Up Tomorrow stars the Grammy-winning artist as a musician plagued by insomnia. In the film, he is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence. 'I tried to make the movie in a way where, for his fans and people who want to approach it at that level, I hope it's very satisfying and you get a good meal out of it,' explained Shults. The chart-topping singer also detailed his motivation behind the thrilling project. 'Failure is the best school,' relayed the 35-year-old to The New York Times. 'This film is emotionally cathartic. It brought the love back, the joy back into what I always loved about film.' In a conversation with HypeBeast, Ortega elaborated on the 'environment' created by Shults while filming. 'Working with Trey is so singular. I can't compare it to any other experience that I've had on set, and I've been doing this for over 12 years. I love challenges. I love trying new things. Trey created an environment where it felt like you were free to try whatever you wanted,' described the 22-year-old. 'Music is such an important part of my life and who I am as a person, so having music intertwined was exciting — getting to watch the companion process come together in real time. Being able to combine film and music — the combination of the score and a facial expression — has the power to ignite something in people. This is a perfect marriage of the two.'
