Spain to part ways with head coach after Euro 2025 final defeat to England
The world champions lost on penalties to England in Basel and the Spanish football federation said Tome will leave at the end of her contract on August 31.
Tome had been in charge for two years and was previously the assistant coach to Jorge Vilda before he was dismissed over his support for former president Luis Rubiales following their World Cup triumph in 2023.
Tome also oversaw a disappointing Paris Olympics, where Spain failed to win a medal after losing the bronze medal match to Germany.
She will be replaced by Sonia Bermudez, a former player on the Spanish national team who is currently in charge of the Under-23s.
Spain were favourites to win the Euros but could not build on Mariona Caldentey's opening goal in the final as England equalised to force extra time.
The Spanish football federation (RFEF) said: "The Board of Directors... would like to thank Montse Tome for her work, professionalism and dedication in various roles during her time as a member of the national teams at the RFEF, particularly during her time as head coach of the senior women's national team.'

Bears vs Dolphins Preseason: Inside the snap counts, stats, and more
The most important thing about preseason isn't the final score or even the playing time; it's getting out of there with no serious injuries. The Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins managed to do just that on Sunday afternoon. There were a few players dinged up in yesterday's 24-all tie, but as of yet, none look to be long-term. This was Chicago's first preseason tie since 1973, which also came against the Dolphins. Thankfully, the NFL eliminated preseason overtime in 2021, because no one needs to have a winner in practice games. The game may have ended in a tie, but the Bears outgained the 'Fins (295 yards to 272), had more first downs (22 to 16), and had the time of possession edge (33:10 to 26:50). Miami had an edge in third-down efficiency (43.8% to 42.9%) and fourth-down efficiency (40% to 25%). Both teams held out several starters after letting their number ones get plenty of scrimmage time on Thursday during the joint practice at Halas Hall. The Bears' next preseason game is Sunday, August 17, against the Buffalo Bills, and they'll host a joint practice the 17th. Defense Austin Booker had a fantastic game, racking up 3 of Chicago's 6 sacks. Noah Sewell had 6 tackles and a forced fumble. Rookie linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II had 5 tackles on defense, a tackle for loss, and a tackle on special teams. Corner Tre Flowers had 5 tackles, 2 passes defended, and another tackle in the third phase. Safety Alex Cook had 3 tackles, a sack, a TFL, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Defensive tackle Zacch Pickens had 3 tackles, a sack, and a TFL. DE Dominique Robinson had 2 tackles, a sack, and a TFL. Corner Josh Blackwell had 2 tackles on D, 2 PD, and 2 special teams' tackles. Inter focus on Akliouche as possible Lookman alternative
With Atalanta still holding out on Ademola Lookman, L'Equipe report that Inter have asked after AS Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche. The Nerazzurri still see the Nigeria international as their first choice for the role, but the refusal of Atalanta to consider the €45m offer has prompted them to at least think about some alternatives. (Photo by) According to French site L'Equipe, one of their targets is Akliouche, a 23-year-old who has six senior caps for France and was part of their Olympic team. He had already been linked with Inter last year. A product of the Monaco youth academy, he progressed to the senior squad and last season contributed an impressive seven goals with 12 assists in 43 competitive appearances. However, if Lookman is considered expensive at €50m, then that is nothing compared to the reported €70m that Monaco wants for Akliouche. His contract with the club runs to June 2028 and he has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Liverpool.
