New jobs, sewerage projects, VAT cut on aviation fuel; Nitish Kumar Cabinet approves 47 Key proposals
Patna (Bihar) [India], June 3 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar chaired a high-level cabinet meeting on Tuesday and approved 47 key proposals, including large-scale infrastructure projects, new government job openings, and significant policy decisions.
The Bihar Cabinet approved the creation of 4,858 new posts across various government departments to improve administrative efficiency and public service delivery.
Among the major infrastructure decisions, a Rs 1,320 crore plan was approved for setting up a sewerage network project in Sasaram, Aurangabad, and Siwan.
In addition, a Rs 328 crore water supply scheme received clearance for Ara, Siwan, and Sasaram cities, aiming to boost urban utility services.
The cabinet also approved a new Bridge Maintenance Policy, which would ensure regular inspection, safety checks, and timely repairs of bridges across the state.
In a move expected to improve air connectivity, the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) in Bihar was reduced from 29 per cent to 4 per cent.
A proposal to build a dry dock in Dujra, Patna, was also approved. The facility will be used to repair aircraft, making it the first such unit in the region.
In a significant step towards women's empowerment, the cabinet decided that 'Jeevika Didis' (members of the state's women's self-help groups) would prepare clothes for children at Anganwadi centres.
The area of Phulwari Sharif, Danapur, and Khagol near the capital of Patna will be expanded, and many villages will become part of these cities.
Earlier, on Friday, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation of multiple development projects worth over Rs 48,520 crore. He was joined by CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Samrat Chowdhary.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the steps being taken by the Union Government towards Bihar's development. Nitish Kumar also praised the Union Government's step to conduct the caste enumeration process in the next population census.
'The development work that is being done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development of Bihar. He also announced assistance for Bihar in the budget. Whatever Bihar has received is a matter of pride. I salute the Centre for announcing the caste-based census. People from other parties were trying to create confusion ', Nitish Kumar said.
Nitish Kumar asserted that as soon as the NDA came to power in Bihar, they began to work for the development of the state. He added that his government has paid special attention towards the health sector and is working to connect every household with roads.
The Bihar CM stressed that many other developmental works, which include the construction of new houses and settlements, will be completed by June 2025.
A major highlight of the Prime Minister's visit to Bihar is the foundation stone laying for Stage-II (3x800 MW) of the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Aurangabad district, valued at over Rs 29,930 crore.
The project is expected to significantly boost electricity generation, industrial development, and employment in the region.
PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for key road infrastructure initiatives, including the four-laning of the Patna-Arrah-Sasaram section of NH-119A, six-laning of the Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata highway (NH-319B), the Ramnagar-Kacchi Dargah stretch (NH-119D), and a new Ganga bridge between Buxar and Bharauli. UP CM directs officials to take action against fake, shell companies
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to take action against shell companies to stop the attempts to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders. While conducting a high-level review of the State Tax Department, the CM directed officials to ensure transparency in tax collection and adopt a policy of technological efficiency and strict enforcement. "Tax evasion is a national crime that negatively impacts development plans and welfare schemes," he said. Stressing that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a consumer-based tax system, he noted that areas with higher population density are naturally expected to generate more tax revenue. He instructed officials to develop special strategies for zones where tax collection is below average. Adityanath directed that information on suspicious firms registered under Central GST (CGST) be shared with the Centre for cancellation of their registration. For firms under State GST (SGST), he ordered in-depth departmental investigations, and if irregularities are found, their registration should be canceled and FIRs lodged. The CM emphasised the need for on-site inspection of all newly registered firms, stating "fake companies should not be allowed to obstruct the rights of honest taxpayers. CM Adityanath said that such acts are an attempt to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders, which is unforgivable. Such inspections are essential to ensure that genuine businesses can operate fairly and without interference," he said. During the meeting, officials informed the CM that Rs 18,161.59 crore in GST and VAT had been collected during April and May against the financial year 2025-26 target of Rs 1,75,725 crore.

Circular rail network on Bengaluru's outskirts to cost Rs 81,000 crore
Bengaluru: The proposed Circular Rail Link Project on Bengaluru's outskirts requires an investment of Rs 81,000 crore and acquisition of 2,500 acres of land. Spanning 287km, the double-line circular network will connect Nidavanda, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Malur, Heelalige, Solur and other peripheral towns. It aims to decongest rail traffic in the city's core areas and cater to residents on the outskirts and nearby districts by enabling more suburban rail services. On Saturday, minister of state for railways V Somanna held a meeting with MPs from Bengaluru and adjoining districts to discuss the project. The railway board sanctioned a final location survey (FLS), which is currently being conducted in phases. The minister said the central govt will fund the entire project. "This is a long-term initiative meant to benefit Bengaluru over the next 50 years," he said. The actual land requirement and cost will be finalised after the detailed project report (DPR) is ready. Completing the FLS is expected to take several months. Camelaram, Panathur works Bangalore Central MP PC Mohan submitted a requisition to Somanna, urging South Western Railway (SWR) to coordinate with BBMP to expedite pending RoB and RuB works at Carmelaram and Panathur. He noted that only 35% of the Carmelaram RoB is complete, causing prolonged closure of Carmelaram-Gunjur Road and affecting commuters. Similarly, the Panathur RuB is stalled due to BBMP's delay in acquiring land needed for the approach road and drainage. Need superfast train to Mumbai: Mohan Mohan called for a superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai, pointing out that the current Udyan Express takes over 20 hours. Despite repeated public requests, the railway board hasn't approved a faster service, he said. On the redevelopment of KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station, the MP said the proposal is pending with the railway board. He urged Somanna to initiate a feasibility study for a rapid rail transit system (RRTS) on key corridors such as Bengaluru-Tumakuru, Bengaluru-Ramanagara, Bengaluru-Mandya-Mysuru and Bengaluru-Kolar.

12k of SAIL's 16k tonnes of steel for tallest rail bridge supplied by Bhilai plant
Raipur: The Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has played a pivotal role in the construction of the world's tallest railway bridge over the Chenab River in Jammu & Kashmir, supplying a total of 16,000 tonnes of steel — with its Bhilai Steel Plant alone contributing 12,000 tonnes to the project. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now A senior official from the Bhilai plant confirmed the figure on Friday, hailing it as a proud moment for the Indian steel industry and a major milestone in nation-building. The Chenab Railway Bridge, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, 2025, is now the highest railway arch bridge on the planet, rising 359 metres above the riverbed — even taller than the Eiffel Tower. The bridge is part of the strategically crucial Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project and aims to bring seamless all-weather connectivity to Kashmir, significantly improving both civilian and military mobility. SAIL's contribution to the bridge included a wide range of steel products such as TMT bars, heavy plates, structural steel, and hot strip mill products. From the total volume supplied, the Bhilai Steel Plant alone provided 5,922 tonnes of TMT bars, 6,454 tonnes of steel plates, and 56 tonnes of structural steel. The remaining steel was delivered by SAIL's IISCO, Durgapur, Rourkela, and Bokaro plants. Officials said that the construction of this 1.3 kilometre long bridge involved the use of approximately 29,000 metric tonnes of fabricated steel, over 10 lakh cubic metres of earthwork, 66,000 cubic metres of concrete, and a vast network of 84 kilometres of cable anchors and rock bolts. Engineered to endure wind speeds of up to 266 kmph and strong earthquakes, the bridge is being seen not just as an engineering feat, but a strategic lifeline to India's northern frontier. SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant, known for producing high-grade TMT bars with earthquake- and corrosion-resistant properties, has been a consistent contributor to key national infrastructure. Its steel has previously been used in iconic structures like the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Atal Setu, Sela and Atal Tunnels, and even in defence applications including warships like INS Vikrant.
