Morocco's Aeronautics Exports Hit MAD 14.13 Billion in First Half of 2025
This expansion flows primarily from increased sales in the Assembly segment, which jumped by MAD 728 million ($72.8 million), and the Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) segment, which advanced by MAD 427 million ($42.7 million).
The positive performance extends the sector's remarkable decade-long transformation. Between 2014 and 2024, Morocco's aeronautical exports more than tripled, skyrocketing from MAD 7.69 billion ($769 million) to MAD 26.44 billion ($2.64 billion) – representing a 244% increase over ten years and an average annual growth rate of approximately 13%.

The Assembly segment has proven particularly robust, with exports soaring from MAD 3.73 billion ($373 million) in 2014 to MAD 17.2 billion ($1.72 billion) in 2024, a 360% increase.
Meanwhile, the EWIS segment witnessed exports climb from MAD 3.89 billion ($389 million) to MAD 9.1 billion ($910 million) during the same period, despite a temporary setback during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Morocco's aerospace industry currently encompasses 150 companies generating an annual revenue of €2.5 billion. These firms, concentrated in Casablanca, Tangier, Rabat, and Fez, employ 26,000 workers full-time, specializing in fuselages, structural components, interior furnishings, and wiring systems.
Speaking at the Paris Air Show last month, Minister of Industry and Commerce Ryad Mezzour revealed Morocco's competitive advantages, including lower production costs – €25 per hour compared to €100-120 in Europe or the US.
He also stressed a steady supply of engineering talent, with 400 of the country's 23,000 annual engineering graduates entering the aeronautics sector.
Looking ahead, Mezzour outlined ambitious plans to expand the industry's capabilities to include cabin fittings and landing gear manufacturing, with the goal of establishing aircraft assembly lines within the next decade. He projected doubling the sector's turnover by 2030.
The aeronautics industry thrives on Morocco's strategic location near Europe, free trade agreements, political stability, competitive costs, and skilled workforce.
The country has poured investments into infrastructure and training, including the Institut des Métiers de l'Aéronautique (IMA), to propel the sector's growth. The local integration rate has strengthened significantly, rising from 18% in 2010 to over 40% in certain segments today.
Major international players including Boeing, Airbus, Safran, Stelia, and Bombardier have integrated Morocco as a strategic link in their global value chains, further cementing the country's position as an emerging aeronautical powerhouse in the Euro-Mediterranean region. The central bank also saw a 27% jump in profits from its monetary policy operations, which totalled MAD 3.95 billion. This was linked to higher levels of monetary interventions as Moroccan banks faced more liquidity shortages, even though the bank had lowered its key interest rate to 2.5% in 2024. Meanwhile, other operational activities remained stable, bringing in MAD 1.27 billion. Although income from commissions on foreign exchange and Treasury bills dropped, this was balanced by higher sales of secure documents, such as official papers and identification materials. On the cost side, general operating expenses rose by 22% to MAD 2.54 billion. This increase was due to rising day-to-day running costs and higher depreciation provisions. Despite the increase in expenses, Bank Al-Maghrib's gross operating profit rose by 17% to MAD 11.42 billion, showing improved efficiency and overall profitability in its core activities. The bank also reported a smaller non-recurring loss. Moroccans Spend Over MAD 15.5 Billion on Travel Abroad by June
Rabat – Moroccans' spending on travel abroad reached MAD 15.5 billion ($1.69 billion) in the first half of 2025, new data from the Moroccan exchange office has indicated. The number represents an increase of 8.2% in the first half of this year compared to MAD 14.33 billion ($1.56 billion) recorded during the same period last year. In addition, these new numbers reflect significant growth compared to the same period in 2021 and 2022, when Morocco's travel spending reached MAD 4.15 billion ($453.3 million) and MAD 7.95 billion ($869.3 million) during the same period, respectively. The relatively low numbers recorded in 2021 and 2022 were attributed to the lockdowns and travel restrictions triggered by COVID-19. In 2024, a survey by market research firm Sunergia listed travel preferences of Moroccans, showing that Spain, France, and Italy are the favorite international destinations for Moroccans. The three destinations attract 29%, 27%, and 17% of Moroccan visitors, respectively. Turkiye is also one of the top destinations for Moroccans, with 15% of the Sunergia survey respondents ranking the country as their favorite destination for summer vacation. As for local tourism, Moroccans prefer Tangier as a destination for tourism, alongside Marrakech and Agadir. About 38% of Moroccans see Tangier as their top destination, followed by Marrakech (33%), Agadir (26%), and Tetouan (22%). US Expected to Greenlight $5 Billion Investment for Morocco's Southern Provinces
Rabat – The US is turning its pledges into reality, preparing to invest $5 billion to support the socio-economic development of Morocco's southern provinces in Western Sahara. For years, especially after the US recognized Morocco's territorial integrity over the region in 2020, Washington has pledged to support the inclusive growth of the southern provinces. 'A policy limited under Joe Biden's administration, the possibility for American companies to invest in Western Sahara is expected to be eased by Donald Trump,' the African Intelligence wrote on Thursday. The report said that the Trump administration is preparing to encourage American companies to invest in Morocco's southern provinces. The US Development Finance Corporation received a green light from Washington to find projects in the region. The development finance cooperation has already held meetings with Moroccan stakeholders, including Moroccan banks and companies, to identify promising projects, the report added. For years, the US has been pledging to continue to support the development of Morocco's southern provinces. The US further emphasized this commitment following its newfound position in 2020, when it officially recognized Morocco's full sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara. Following its decision, former U.S. Ambassador to Morocco David Fischer announced the US' willingness to open a consulate in Dakhla and to support and encourage investment and development projects that bring 'tangible benefits' to the region's residents. 'I come from a business background in the United States, and I am 100 percent certain that Morocco has a strong economic future ahead of it as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic,' he said in December 2020. The development of the region is a pillar of King Mohammed VI's vision. In his speeches, the monarch has been sharing his vision, emphasizing Morocco's determination to transform southern provinces into an 'engine of development at the regional and continental levels.' The North African kingdom launched several projects to fulfill this commitment, including the Dakhla Atlantic Port. Morocco and the US enjoy strong relations. Now, the two countries seek deeper ties. The US repeatedly emphasized its support for Morocco's territorial integrity. This was confirmed just a few days ago by the US ambassador nominee to Morocco, Richard Duke Buchan III . During his hearing on July 30, Buchan reiterated his country's position, hailing Morocco's Autonomy Plan as the only viable basis for a just and lasting solution for the Western Sahara dispute. He also reiterated his country's determination to facilitate the UN-led political process, calling on all parties to the dispute to engage in the process without further delay.
