Oregon unemployment numbers continue to climb and hit recent high

Yahoo2 days ago
Oregon's unemployment rate continued to climb in July and was again higher than the national average, according to an Aug. 13 press release from the Oregon Employment Department.
The overall unemployment rate hit 5.0% in July. It was 4.2% in July 2024 and has continued to climb this year from 4.4% in January. The rate is the highest it has been in four years, when the state was first recovering from COVID-19-era furloughs and layoffs.
In an Aug. 14 media briefing, Gail Krumenauer, the state employment economist, said the rate was the highest it has been since the beginning of 2016, excluding the pandemic period.
"The big picture has many of the similar trends that we've been talking about, but overall Oregon's employment situation is weaker than originally reported," Krumenauer said. "Unemployment continues to rise in Oregon."
The national unemployment rate was 4.2% in July.
The state lost 2,700 jobs in July, after losing 8,600 in June. Job losses in July were concentrated in financial activities, professional and business services, and health care and social assistance.
Among mass cuts in the state was the loss of nearly 2,400 workers at Intel in July. Manufacturing still has the steepest declines, according to Krumenauer, with the loss of 9,400 jobs in the past year, or a 5% drop.
Yearly job gains were concentrated in private health care and social assistance. Gains in July were largest in construction and transportation, warehousing and utilities.

Radiopharm Theranostics Limited (RADX) Receives IND Approval From FDA To Initiate Phase I Therapeutic Clinical Study To Target B7H3 With Betabart (RV-01)

Radiopharm Theranostics Limited (NASDAQ:RADX) is among the 12 Best Australian Stocks to Buy Right Now. The company recently announced receiving Investigational New Drug (IND) approval from the FDA to begin a Phase 1 therapeutic clinical study to target B7H3 with Betabart (RV-01). A well-stocked pharmacy shelf full of the company's pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, over-the-counter medications, and health care products. The Lu-177-B7H3 monoclonal antibody is the first in class targeted radiopharmaceutical that is being developed against the 4lg type of B7H3. Radiopharm Theranostics Limited (NASDAQ:RADX) believes it has the potential to become a highly differentiated drug for treating individuals with aggressive solid tumors. The company says it is on track to initiate the first-in-human study during the fourth quarter of this calendar year. Findings from recent preclinical studies have shown that RV-01 exhibits hepatic clearance, which allows the isotope enough time to target tumors, while also potentially reducing adverse effects such as hematological toxicities. Moreover, these monoclonal antibodies are cleared by the liver, unlike peptides and small molecules. This, coupled with the shortened half-life of RV-01, makes this agent stand out compared to other monoclonal antibodies and targeted radiotherapeutics with a renal excretion pathway. Radiopharm Theranostics Limited (NASDAQ:RADX) is an Australia-based clinical-stage radiotherapeutics firm developing innovative radiopharmaceutical products for therapeutic and diagnostic applications in areas of high unmet medical need. While we acknowledge the potential of RADX as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. Amazon (AMZN) Expands Same-Day Grocery Delivery, Escalating Retail Delivery Battle

Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is one of the best growth stocks to buy according to analysts. Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced on August 13 that it will be expanding its same-day delivery service to include fresh and frozen grocery items for its Prime members. The company did not reveal the cities included in the rollout. Ken Wolter / Starting this week, Prime subscribers in select cities will be able to receive items such as strawberries, milk, meats, and frozen dinners within hours of placing an order. This will intensify competition for same-day deliveries for perishable items, with other retail giants like Walmart. What is likely to work in the e-commerce giant's favor is its improving logistics and Whole Foods' infrastructure. Same-day grocery delivery is a massive battleground in e-commerce, with customers spoiled for choice and expecting faster delivery. The tech behemoth has already been offering grocery delivery through its Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods platforms. However, the latest move indicates a deeper commitment by the company to improve its share in the perishable item segment. If the company can capture a share of the same-day delivery for perishable items and scale up, its impact in the grocery sector is likely to grow; it is likely to put pressure on the traditional grocers and delivery rivals, given Amazon's scale and delivery moat. While we acknowledge the potential of AMZN as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk.
