Teachers get warning on attendance
Commissioner Deepak Singh on Friday directed that 100% teacher attendance must be ensured in all govt and aided schools across the division through the "Humare Shikshak App," which is available on Education Portal 3.0.
Education department officers were instructed to verify and certify that the app is being used consistently and correctly in their respective districts by July 31, 2025. A written certificate of full compliance has to be submitted to the Commissioner's office, failing which the salaries of defaulting officials and teachers will not be released.
During a divisional review meeting of the School Education Department, it was found that many schools under Indore Division were not recording attendance on time through the prescribed app. Despite instructions issued on June 20, 2025, by the Commissioner, Public Education Directorate, Bhopal, for the implementation of the app from July 1, several districts were lagging behind in adherence.
The commissioner addressed the directive to all District Education Officers, Project Coordinators under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and Deputy Commissioners of the Tribal Welfare and Development Department, instructing them to take immediate action. The move is part of a broader effort to digitise administrative processes in the education sector and ensure teacher accountability and timely classroom engagement.

In an effort to ensure the safety of girl children in the online world, the Tamil Nadu school education department has introduced the Agal Vilakku scheme for girl students of Classes 9-12. The scheme aims to empower the students with tools to protect them from mental, physical, and social challenges, with a strong focus on cyber safety. In this regard, the department has launched awareness booklets. Under the initiative, committees of teachers and students will identify problems faced by girl students and suggest solutions. 'Sessions will also be conducted by teachers trained in career guidance through the District Institute of Education and Training, and these teachers will also be given additional training to raise awareness of safe internet use. Counselling to students will also be provided,' said an official from the School Education Department. Earlier this year, the scheme was announced by the School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in the Legislative Assembly as part of the Demand for Grants under the department. The 30-page booklet outlines 10 rules for students to follow for safe internet use. These include blocking people who continue to harass, reporting cyberbullying, filing a complaint about cybercrimes, limiting daily mobile and internet usage, and changing settings to prohibit screenshots, among others.

Low attendance on Hamare Shikshak App despite orders
Indore: Despite orders from the divisional commissioner to ensure 100% teacher attendance through the 'Hamare Shikshak' app by July 31, Indore district saw no compliance. Not a single Block Resource Coordinator (BRC) submitted the mandated 100% attendance certificate, and app usage among teachers remains abysmally low. According to the District Project Coordinator (DPC) office, the directive required BRCs to certify that all teachers in their respective blocks started marking attendance on the app. However, even ten days after the deadline, no certificates were received, and attendance levels showed no significant improvement. Current records reveal that only about 10% of the district's govt school teachers are using the app to mark attendance. The 'Hamare Shikshak' app, rolled out statewide on July 1, was designed to digitally capture teachers' attendance in real time and upload it directly to the Education Portal 3.0. Officials hoped the system would improve transparency, curb absenteeism, and allow higher authorities to monitor attendance remotely. Teachers, especially those working in rural parts of Indore district, have expressed strong reservations. Many cite poor mobile network coverage as a major hurdle, making it difficult to log attendance consistently. Others say the app was launched without sufficient field testing, leading to frequent technical glitches. "We come to school to teach, not to spend time troubleshooting an app," said one teacher, reflecting the frustration among staff. Officials warned that failure to record attendance on the app could be treated as absence and may result in salary deductions. Despite this, adoption has been slow. Indore district has around 1,100 govt schools employing roughly 6,500 teachers, but only a small fraction have embraced the digital system. DPC Sanjay Kumar Mishra said, "Attendance through the app is mandatory as per govt orders. All BRCs were instructed to submit 100% compliance certificates, but none did so. Necessary steps will now be taken to ensure full implementation." The situation has once again highlighted the challenges of enforcing digital monitoring in govt schools, as technological limitations and user resistance continue to hinder policy execution in the Indore district.
