PM Modi to initiate development projects worth Rs 8,000 from Darrang during proposed Assam visit on 8 September
Following the site visit, Sarma informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for this healthcare project during his proposed visit to Assam on September 8.
He further noted that the Prime Minister is also likely to inaugurate the Narengi-Kurua bridge over the Brahmaputra River and the Guwahati Ring Road project from the same location. On that occasion, development projects amounting to nearly Rs 8,000 crore are expected to be initiated from Punia, Darrang.
The CM observed that Darrang, formerly a sub-division of Sonitpur district, lacked access to such infrastructure; however, following its elevation to district status, it is now progressing towards securing its own medical college, akin to Sonitpur.
He added that the construction of a bypass, along with other development initiatives, would contribute to a substantial transformation of the district. Emphasising the importance of timely implementation, he appealed for the cooperation of local residents in facilitating the smooth execution of these undertakings.
He also stated that the government is contemplating the establishment of a medical college in Udalguri district and has directed the relevant department to refrain from felling large trees at the proposed site unless absolutely necessary. Trees currently located at the site are to be relocated and replanted elsewhere, he added.
Sarma stated that during the Prime Minister's forthcoming visit on September 8, he would arrive in Mangaldoi in the afternoon following his participation in a programme at Numaligarh.
Additionally, the Prime Minister is expected to attend the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by MP and Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia, MLAs Paramananda Rajbongshi, Diganta Kalita and Basanta Das, Chairman of the Assam Fisheries Development Corporation Gurujyoti Das, the District Commissioner, and several other senior officials. (ANI)

This means cutting-edge electric vehicle technology coming to India, along with the fastest satellite connectivity. This week, on Tuesday (July 15), Tesla's first showroom will open in India at Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex. Tesla announced its entry into India with a new X handle. The company is calling its showroom as an 'experience centre" and five Model Y vehicles are said to have landed in the city ahead of the launch. Delhi's Aerocity could have the second showroom by the end of this month. And, when can you book and get a Tesla? August or September. But be prepared to cough up a bomb – almost Rs 65 lakh to Rs 70 lakh, which is double of what the Model Y costs in the United States. Well, the reason is that Tesla cars are being directly imported so far and, hence, cannot escape the 70 percent import duty that India charges. Then there are other surcharges and registration costs. The import duty would have been 110 percent, but India reduced it to 70 percent earlier this year to enable Tesla's entry. Tesla, so far, has no plans to manufacture its EV in India – something that the Narendra Modi-led government wants Musk to do so that the cars can become affordable for Indians and also create jobs here. Tesla for now will be importing the cars. India could be the biggest EV maker in the years to come – and Tesla no longer wants to miss out on the early mover advantage. But at a price tag of Rs 65 lakh to Rs 70 lakh, Tesla is not challenging the big players in India's EV market – from Mahindra to Tata, which have far more affordable offerings. Even BYD is competitively priced. Musk's other big offering – Starlink – is also set for an Indian debut in the next few days. India officially opened its doors to Starlink last week to launch internet services. The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre granted a nod to Starlink Satellite Communications, signalling the country's growing embrace of private space and communication technology. This will enable provisioning of the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, namely Starlink Gen1, and the private company can provide satellite communication services in India for the next five years. The Starlink Gen1 Constellation is a global constellation with 4,408 satellites orbiting Earth at altitudes varying between 540 km and 570 km, capable of providing ~600 Gbps throughput over India. Again, the Starlink service will come at a higher cost than your regular broadband or WiFi service but will be much faster. Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia recently told News18 that India will be the biggest market for Satcom in the coming years. 'This (Starlink) is the third (satcom) licence being given out in India, and there are others also in queue. India is ready as a vibrant market to welcome every player into our country if they check all the boxes. Licence will be given, spectrum will be given on an administratively assigned system, price of which will be determined by regulatory authority. Hemant flags hacking of JMM's X account
1 2 Ranchi: JMM president and chief minister Hemant Soren on Sunday said the official X account of his party has been hacked, prompting him to order a police investigation into it. Apart from expressing concern over the breach, the chief minister appealed to the Elon Musk-owned social media giant to take cognisance of the matter. Party members said at 12:12 am on Sunday, the hackers posted a suspicious link along with an image of a rodent on the JMM's X account, which was immediately flagged by Hemant on his social media platform. No other activity related to hacking was detected on the account thereafter. Taking to X, Hemant, who is in Delhi to attend to his ailing father Shibu Soren, wrote, "The official X handle of JMM @JmmJharkhand has been hacked by anti-social elements. @JharkhandPolice please take cognisance of this matter and investigate it promptly. @XCorpIndia please take cognisance of this matter. @GlobalAffairs" In the recent past, a series of cyber attacks have also targeted social media accounts of politicians, top-ranked bureaucrats, political parties and websites of prominent govt organisations in Jharkhand, exposing the growing vulnerability of digital platforms. The latest attack on the official X handle of JMM was also just the tip of the iceberg. Around one and a half months ago, state agriculture minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey also fell victim to a cybercrime. According to the minister, her Instagram and Facebook accounts were compromised. According to cyber experts, hackers are often sponsored by enemy countries and they can have multiple intentions behind their attacks. "Many times, these attacks are sponsored by neighbouring enemy states to retrieve crucial information by gaining access to the social media platforms of prominent figures and organisations," said Vineet Kumar, the founder and global president of CyberPeace Foundation. He informed that the attacks are launched at critical and sensitive infrastructure, including water treatment and energy plants, and hospitals to disrupt normal activities and create chaos. "Apart from information gathering, many attacks are orchestrated for financial fraud and duping people. The newest form of financial fraud that has been emerging is that Indian nationals are being trafficked to Cambodia via Thailand and employed in scam centres run by India's enemy countries to dupe Indian citizens," Kumar added. As the menace is growing rapidly, law-enforcing agencies have also been taking a proactive stance against it. On July 5, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) busted an organised Chinese cybercrime network, arresting seven individuals involved in illegal investment scams and digital arrests. Police sources said the modus operandi of the hackers and their sponsors was to send malicious apps to smartphones linked with bank accounts. "Once the phone owner installed the apps, they automatically transmit OTPs and all bank alerts sent to the particular phone to servers controlled from China. This enabled the Chinese hackers to gain remote access to the Indian bank accounts which were then used to transfer the defrauded money to offshore accounts," the source added.

His fellow activists and like-minded people moved his belongings to a temporary shed - to construct a permanent house. Basavaraj Sulibhavi of Ladai Prakashana told TOI that they decided to construct a house at a cost of Rs 18 lakh through crowdfunding. "His house is already named 'Samvidhana Mane' (Constitution House), as he always fought to uphold constitutional values in society. We are firm on not accepting any contribution either from politicians or from the govt. Many activists are lending help in the form of cement, bricks, jelly stones, sand, iron, doors, windows, fans, and other construction materials and equipment. Many like-minded organisations and fora are extending their support for this cause," he explained.
