BRESCIA, Italy, June 23 (Bernama) -- After 5 racing days, 1900 kilometres and over 400 classic cars in movement, today the forty-third re-enactment of the 1000 Miglia ended in Brescia. A special edition, bringing back to life the 'figure-eight' route of the epic pre-war editions, symbolically uniting not only the North and South, but also the East and West from the Adriatic Sea to the Tyrrhenian coast.
The champions once again were Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli, who, driving their faithful Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Ss, once more came out on top, despite the fact that Daniel Andres Erejomovich and Gustavo Llanos did not let them have it easy with their 1929 6C 1500 Ss, even managing to snatch first place at the end of the fourth day of racing. Third were Tonconogy-Ruffini in a 1931 6C 1750 Gs.

Sabah Allocates RM600,000 To Assist e-Hailing Workers In Opening EPF Accounts

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The state government has allocated nearly RM600,000 to assist e-hailing gig workers in opening their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) accounts, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He added that a total of 11,109 applications have been received from e-hailing workers for the contributions. "This initiative aims to support those e-hailing workers who have yet to open an EPF account," he said during his speech at the launch of the Sabah Moto Day 8.0 programme at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) today. Hajiji also expressed his delight at the Sabah Moto Day event, which attracted around 60,000 motorcyclists and motorsports enthusiasts from Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei. "The significant turnout of participants and visitors reflects the enduring appeal of motorsports to the youth and the general public," he said. "I am truly impressed by the support from all participants, regardless of age, race, or religion, united by a common interest. We should see this gathering in a positive light, as it can contribute to our state's economic growth," he added. In his speech at the launch of the Youth Programme in Putatan, Hajiji highlighted the state government's commitment to youth development, pointing to initiatives like grants, training, and innovation and entrepreneurship programmes to provide platforms for Sabah's youth to thrive. He announced that the Youth Programme Grant, amounting to RM300,000, will be distributed to youth NGOs in the Tanjung Aru, Petagas, and Tanjung Keramat constituencies within the Putatan parliamentary area. "This grant exemplifies our commitment to supporting projects and ideas that benefit the local community. I encourage you to make full use of this grant to implement programmes that will benefit youth in your respective areas," he said.

Returning Messi Scores One And Sets Up Another in Inter Miami Victory

LONDON, Aug 17 (Bernama-PA Media/dpa) -- Lionel Messi marked his return from injury with a goal and an assist as Inter Miami beat Los Angeles Galaxy 3-1, reported German Press Agency (dpa). The Argentina forward had spent the last couple of weeks on the sidelines after picking up a muscle injury against Necaxa in the Leagues Cup, but returned to the substitute bench and made a decisive second-half contribution. Telasco Segovia had already had an effort disallowed for offside when Miami's Jordi Alba opened the scoring late in the first half. bootstrap slideshow The full-back latched on to a tremendous through ball by former Barcelona team-mate Sergio Busquets and converted a low finish. Messi was introduced as a substitute at the start of the second half, but Ghana international Joseph Paintsil equalised after 59 minutes for the Galaxy. The 38-year-old Messi restored Miami's lead with six minutes remaining when he skipped past two challenges before firing a low effort into the bottom corner from 20 metres. Messi created a third for Luis Suarez in the 89th minute when he flicked Rodrigo de Paul's pass into the path of the Uruguay striker, who fired in a low effort. The result keeps Inter Miami firmly in the play-off picture with Javier Mascherano's side fourth in the Eastern Conference ahead of the day's late MLS (Major League Soccer) games. LA Galaxy remain bottom of the Western Conference after a 16th defeat in 26 league outings.
