Bengals-Lions predicted league-altering trade sends $60M pass rusher with 77 sacks to Detroit

Bengals-Lions predicted league-altering trade sends $60M pass rusher with 77 sacks to Detroit originally appeared on The Sporting News The Cincinnati Bengals remain in a contract dispute with star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. Widely regarded as one of the best at his position, Hendrickson has yet to receive the contract he desires, which is surprising considering he led the league in sacks in 2024. 'Hendrickson finished 2024 as the NFL leader in sacks with 17.5, earning his first All-Pro nod by producing at an elite rate despite belonging to a Cincinnati defensive front that struggled against the run and in generating a consistent pass rush,' Nick Shook wrote. After months of stalled negotiations, the Bengals are now reportedly listening to trade offers for Hendrickson. 'The Bengals and their star defensive end have been discussing a new contract for months and appear to be at an impasse. Things have gotten so bad, Cincinnati has actually begun listening to trade offers for the four-time Pro Bowler,' SI's Ryan Phillips wrote. One team to watch closely in a potential trade scenario is the Detroit Lions. 'The Lions addressed their offensive line early in the 2025 NFL Draft, also adding wide receiver depth. One area that went curiously overlooked: pass rusher, despite the team desperately needing the since-departed Za'Darius Smith to step in as an Aidan Hutchinson replacement last season. With more than $40 million in 2025 salary cap space still available, they could be a prime landing spot for a proven talent,' CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin wrote. Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Pairing Hendrickson with Aidan Hutchinson would create one of the most formidable pass-rushing duos in the NFL. With Hutchinson recovering from a serious injury, adding Hendrickson would provide much-needed support during his return. A move like this could be exactly what Detroit needs to push past the final hurdle.

Fabrizio Romano CONFIRMS star's massive Liverpool U-turn

One star has had a total change of heart over the last month or so. Liverpool have been informed. It's been a crazy transfer window for Liverpool. They've spent a truly incredible amount of money but also recouped plenty, too. In fact, despite paying nearly £300m for players, the Reds aren't in the Premier League's top five for net spend. They've been smart about it, even if things are complicated. Shop the LFC Store 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! But that's the nature of overhauling your team. Liverpool have a new playmaker, a new centre-forward, new full-backs on either side and their depth at goalkeeper is completely different. The Reds wanted to move out players who weren't quite working under Arne Slot in order to bring in stars for him. That's a luxury he didn't really have last season as Federico Chiesa was the only incoming first-team player. However, Slot then barely used Chiesa and an exit was inevitable this summer. Or at least, we all thought it was. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Federico Chiesa's U-turn Chiesa looked like an absolute certainty to leave Liverpool this summer. He appeared for a grand total of 108 minutes across the entire Premier League season last time out, with just the one start. It was accepted, then, that Chiesa would want out. A move back to Italy where he could get regular football makes complete sense ahead of a World Cup. However, this season has kicked off in style. He was a somewhat surprising substitute against Bournemouth last Friday but Slot was right to take a chance on him - Chiesa scored the decisive goal as Liverpool won 4-2. And it appears the Italian has had a total change of heart. That's according to Fabrizio Romano. "Federico Chiesa and his agent have informed Liverpool about clear desire to stay at the club," he writes on Twitter. "Chiesa considered to leave in June/July when LFC rejected bids for Diaz and Federico was left out of Asian tour. "Now Diaz left, more space and that goal to open new chapter." It would be an incredibly bold move from Chiesa. Competition remains fierce at Liverpool but it appears he fancies his chances of getting minutes. So we hope Liverpool view things that way, too. There's unquestionably more to come from Chiesa and he does have all the attributes to be an important player in this squad. We say it's time to give him a proper season and see what he can do. Get back to his best, after all, and Liverpool have another elite forward in their squad. It seems Chiesa himself wants to give that a shot.

Joe Burrow 'happy to go out there and play' in preseason finale if asked to do so

For the Cincinnati Bengals fans breathing a sign of relief after Joe Burrow avoided disaster a couple times in last night's preseason game against the Washington Commanders, it's time to inhale again. The superstar quarterback was asked by Kelsey Conway if the game was his last action in the preseason. Here is what Burrow said: We'll have those conversations this week. I know it's a short week, so I doubt it, but I always find those reps valuable, and I can get better from those. Whatever Zac decides. I'm happy to go out there and play as well. He then highlighted the value of the reps he's gotten so far: [There have been] some good learning experiences in the couple drives that we've had. We got some fumbles out of the way. So that was good. Those are just incredibly valuable reps that usually work out those kinks in the first couple weeks of the regular season, and we've worked them out the last two weeks. For those who missed it, Burrow was his usual aggressive self, even after Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins headed to the sideline, trying to make something out of nothing against the Commanders. So while he may still have some rust to shake off, it would be a bit unreasonable to risk him playing a single snap against the Indianapolis Colts this Saturday. In other news, the Bengals are hosting Dalton Risner today. Adding the veteran guard to the offense would decrease the chances of another Burrow injury tremendously. I talked about the value he would add in the video below.
