Bills to bring back throwback red helmets for final game at Highmark Stadium
After 24 years, the Bills are bringing back the headgear to commemorate the final home game at the current Highmark Stadium. Starting next season, the team will play at the new Highmark stadium, right next door to their current address in Orchard Park.

The Bills wore their red helmets from 1987-2001. With the bold, red base, the helmet features the blue and white logo on the side and a white facemask.
"There's no better way to celebrate our fans and honor our team's history by bringing back the red helmets," Bills Chief Operating Officer Pete Guelli said in a statement. "The Bills provided this region with some of the most incredible moments in franchise history in the 1990s wearing these helmets and we feel this is a great way to commemorate the closing of Highmark Stadium in our regular season finale."
Apart from the mask, the team will bring back their vintage "Standing Buffalo" uniforms twice this season. The helmet featuring a red silhouette of the Buffalo logo was memorably paired with their white jerseys, an ensemble introduced in 1962 and making its way back for Week 5 in Atlanta and Week 11 against Tampa Bay. Buffalo last wore the vintage combo on October 31, 2021, in a 26-11 win against the Miami Dolphins.

While giving an ode to their past, the Bills' present offers fans plenty of promise. Buffalo has made it to the divisional round of the postseason every year since 2020, making the conference title game in 2020 and 2024.
Behind MVP Josh Allen, the Bills finished atop the AFC East with a 13-4 record this past season. They took down the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship game.

The New Orleans Saints saw a local legend walk away when safety Tyrann Mathieu surprisingly retired earlier in July. Although they quickly signed another player at that position, they are not going to give his jersey number away immediately. He is from the city and serves as a great example of someone who made it all the way to the top. Mathieu may have an outside chance at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, however, which may be the best chance he gets honored by the Saints. He had 838 career tackles, 36 interceptions, three Pro Bowls, four All-Pro first team nods, a second team nod and won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs. He is also one of the current generation's most famous football players, dating back to his college days, which won't hurt "the Honey Badger's" case. No matter the full reason that he did not get his jersey number taken immediately. Even if it did, it will be hard for fans not to associate that number with him for a long time to come.

Minnesota Vikings land a different CB in PFF's 2018 NFL re-draft
The NFL Draft remains the second-biggest event in the NFL calendar behind the Super Bowl. Like it or not, it also remains one of the biggest things that fans and media enjoy going back and analyzing to see "what could have been." Pro Football Focus has done a good job this offseason by starting a re-draft series that we have been tracking here on Vikings Wire. In their latest draft, they looked back on it, and it just so happens to be one of the more impactful ones in recent memory for the Minnesota Vikings franchise: The 2018 NFL Draft. The team drafted cornerback Mike Hughes in 2018, and while they stick with the position, they get a different player in Carlton Davis. The former Buccaneers and Lions cornerback has been around the league, but he has made plays every step of the way. Trevor Sikkema writes, "The Vikings needed some cornerback depth, and starters Trae Waynes and Xavier Rhodes were both gone in two years following the 2018 NFL Draft. Davis has endured his ups and downs but has posted a single-season PFF coverage grade above 70.0 in three of his seven campaigns, with some elite single-game figures." Davis would have provided a fun and versatile piece to Mike Zimmer's defense that would have helped out Harrison Smith in the secondary. However, just like every other re-draft, hindsight is 20-20.

Jacksonville Jaguars' WR/CB Travis Hunter is the highest rated rookie in Madden 26. The Madden 2026 player ratings are being released, and the highest-rated rookie from the 2025 NFL draft class is the Jacksonville Jaguars' Travis Hunter. Hunter's overall ranking is 84. His speed is a 93, change of direction is 96, and spectacular catch rating is 86. Over the last few practices, Hunter has put together some impressive performances at both cornerback and wide receiver. In his 21 snaps at cornerback on Sunday during the 11-on-11 periods, Hunter came away with three pass breakups, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco. On Tuesday at wide receiver, John Shipley of Jaguars on SI wrote that this was Hunter's "best practice yet on the offensive side of the ball." This included Hunter making several impressive grabs and "proving he can be a tough cover," as Shipley put it. Hunter has spent four practices at receiver so far and two at cornerback. During the Jaguars' scrimmage on Friday, he will play both offense and defense that day, according to DiRocco. Ultimately, that will be the norm for Hunter, but how things unfold during that mock game will play a role in determining what his practice schedule looks like moving forward. "I think what will happen is where he's on offense (on Monday), he'll go back to defense before our mock game, scrimmage (on Friday) and we'll be able to use that mock as an evaluation to see what do we need to do now," Liam Coen said after Monday's practice. "What did it look like in the scrimmage? Do we need to get him more on defense or hey, these other guys are producing and developing and we can keep with the schedule as is. It'll be not a defining moment but an evaluation time for us."
