Jenna Ortega channels Carrie Bradshaw in red carpet look

Express Tribune19-05-2025

From the Venice International Film Festival to the brand's Paris Fashion Week, Jenna Ortega has stayed committed to Dior on various occasions in the past. Last Tuesday, she debuted another look from the brand - or, should we say, revived?
As per Marie Claire, Ortega strutted onto the red carpet of her film Hurry Up Tomorrow's world premiere in Carrie Bradshaw's iconic newspaper print dress, in obedience to the carpet's "black, white, and red all over" theme. But it wasn't just nostalgia that Ortega was boasting, it was also her awareness of the brand's catalogue.
Designed by then-Creative Director John Galliano, the cowl neck mini dress first launched as part of Dior's Fall/Winter 2000 Ready-to-Wear show, complemented by a glittering pair of boots and metallic gold makeup. But it truly became a symbol of vintage excellence after Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie wore it in Season 3 of Sex and the City, marking the dress as the character's signature look.
While the newspaper columnist opted for open-toe black heels and a white clutch, Ortega styled her look with a set of golden - strappy heels, rings, and a bracelet - and a necklace sporting a star pendant. Her shadowy eye makeup was more in line with the inky clippings that the dress flaunted, adding a muted touch to the overall look.
"I love this dress. You know, it's also very comfortable," the Wednesday star told Entertainment Tonight. Crediting her stylist Enrique Melendez for fetching the piece for her, she added, "My friend Enrique, who somehow got this dress from a random vault, is a legend as well [as Carrie Bradshaw]."
On Thursday, Ortega was announced as a new ambassador for Dior Beauty on the brand's official Instagram account. "It is a tailor-made role for this rising star who, through her values and her personality, is already inspiring an entire generation," Dior said in a statement, as per Cosmetics Business.
Speaking of the appointment, the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice actor said, "The House of Dior symbolises audacity, elegance, and timelessness, and being part of it is both incredibly exciting and surreal."
Recalling her first experience with makeup as a child actor, she added, "The first time I wore lipstick, I must have been 10 or 11 and it was for work, because I started acting when I was so little. I was wearing my mom's lipstick; we were just in the bathroom of the studio and she put it on me."

Dior has appointed Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson as its new creative director, giving him full creative control over women's, men's, and haute couture collections—a historic first since the house's founder, Christian Dior. Delphine Arnault, chair and CEO of Dior, called him 'the most talented designer of his generation.' His appointment marks a bold new direction for the storied brand, echoing the influence of Karl Lagerfeld, to whom Anderson is often compared. 'It is a great honour to join the house of Dior as creative director of both women's and men's collections,' Anderson said in a statement. 'I have always been inspired by the rich history of this house, its depth, and empathy. I look forward to working alongside its legendary ateliers to craft the next chapter of this incredible story.' The appointment follows an earlier announcement in April that Anderson would lead Dior's menswear. It also coincides with the departure of Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior's womenswear creative director, who concluded her tenure with a show in Rome last week. Dior confirmed the change on Instagram, noting that for the first time since Christian Dior, one creative director will oversee all collections. To signal the transition, Dior will skip the upcoming haute couture shows in July—an unprecedented move in its 78-year history. Anderson rose to prominence through his transformation of the Spanish label Loewe and high-profile designs for Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Harry Styles. His appointment reflects Dior's confidence in his vision and marks a shift toward a more unified and innovative approach under the LVMH umbrella. Delphine Arnault said, 'I am convinced he will bring a creative and modern vision to our house, inspired by the fabulous story of Monsieur Dior.'
