Investment strategist Christopher Wood urges collective response to tackle tariffs
Wood has been awarded the tag of 'best strategist' in Asia multiple times by prestigious magazines.
Wood has been publishing the renowned weekly investment 'GREED & Fear' report since July 1996. In the latest edition, the report urged countries to act collectively, stating that " the rest of the world should act collectively rather than each country seeking to do its deal with the US.'
Earlier, the renowned investment strategist Wood termed the 50 per cent tariff imposition of Trump on India and Brazil as 'Xenophobic autarky.' Wood also highlighted that the US showed its incompetence regarding following international trade practices.
The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) is related to governing international trade practices by providing a framework for tariff reduction and other trade barriers.

Trump takes jab at Biden, says his administration prevented Russia-Ukraine war from becoming a WWIII
Washington, Aug 9 (UNI) Taking a jab at his predecessor Joe Biden, US President Donald Trump said that the Russia-Ukraine war could have escalated into a third world war, were it for his administration. He further argued that global tensions peaked when relations between Moscow and Washington hit their lowest point during the Biden administration, reports RT. Since his return to office, Trump has resumed diplomatic ties with Moscow which had been virtually suspended in 2022 during the Biden administration, and has indeed made calls with both Putin and Zelensky to come to a settlement. However, while he shares good ties with the Russian President, his efforts have not yielded much success while his policies have been a lot more anti-Kremlin, weaponising trade in an attempt to get Moscow to stop its attack on Kyiv, targeting both Moscow as well as Russia affiliated nations. Speaking to journalists at the White House on Friday, Trump claimed that, if not for his administration's actions, the Ukraine conflict 'would have ended up being a world war." 'We've brought it down a long way, but when I first came in, I thought, 'Wow, this thing is really bad,'' Trump added. 'Now the only question is: when is it going to be settled? And it could be very soon,' he said. The president again termed the ongoing war 'Biden's war' and criticised what he described as the previous administration's vast military support for Kyiv. 'Through Biden and his people, we're probably in for $350 billion,' he said. Trump has claimed that he aims to recover this sum through a rare earth minerals deal with Ukraine, which he states could refill the US coffers. However, many analysts have called the move a folly, as majority of the minerals lie in areas such as Donetsk and Luhansk – both of which have become a part of Russia. While Washington has echoed Moscow's position on the conflict – terming it as a proxy war against Russia – the Trump administration has continued with its weapons exports to Ukraine, supplying the country with both Patriot missile batteries, as well as Multiple Launch Rocket Systems, artillery systems, and anti-tank munitions. Kremlin officials have stated that securing a peaceful resolution will be the central focus of the bilateral meeting between Trump and Putin. UNI XC ANV GNK

Pinterest CEO Bill Calls AI Shopping a ‘Cambrian Moment'
Business Economy New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) Bill Ready, Pinterest CEO pointed towards the prospects of Agentic AI in shopping. Ready was talking with the investors on the second-quarter earnings call. Bill Ready said on the second quarter earnings call ' I think this notion of an agent just going and buying all the things for you without you doing anything is a very, very long cycle for that to play out both in terms of how users think about it, where the users are going to be ready to just let something go run off and do everything for them, save for maybe some very utilitarian journeys.' Pinterest termed the current scenario as 'Cambrian Moment' as businesses are continuously exploring new ways to create new AI-enabled experiences. While CEO Ready stressed to users to imagine 'Pinterest' as an AI-driven shopping assistant, as the platform is currently at the forefront of visual search and provides next-gen shopping experiences to users. ' If we look at what's happening on our platform already, we're able to take the user much further down that shopping journey, assisting them, as I mentioned, with the relevancy of our recommendations, that's effectively taking the user much further,' Ready added. Russian aide warns of concerted efforts by vested parties to sabotage upcoming Trump-Putin talks
Moscow, Aug 9 (UNI) Countries with vested interests will do what they can to sabotage the upcoming Russia-US presidential talks in Alaska next week to prolong the Russia-Ukraine war, warned senior Russian Kirill Dmitriev. Russian President Vladmir Putin's top aide for international economic cooperation and head of Moscow's efforts to normalise relations with Washington, he said that 'titanic efforts' — including provocations and disinformation — could be made to derail the talks, reports RT. The two leaders are due to meet in Alaska on Aug 15, where they will discuss potential settlements to resolve the Kremlin's war in Ukraine. US President Donald Trump has confirmed that territorial concessions would be part of the proposed deal, a position which has been vehemently rejected by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has ruled out any conceding any of its lost territory to Russia. 'Certainly, several nations that have a vested interest in prolonging the conflict will take titanic efforts (provocations and disinformation) to torpedo the planned meeting,' Dmitriev wrote on social media. Dmitriev's remarks followed comments by former US Defence Department advisor Dan Caldwell, who claimed there was a 'concerted effort to undermine' the summit. Caldwell was responding to a Wall Street Journal report based largely on Ukrainian and European sources. Earlier this week, US media suggested Trump had pressed Putin to meet Zelensky face to face before agreeing to a direct meeting — a claim the POTUS denied. 'They would like to meet me, and I'll do whatever I can to stop the killing,' he said. Moscow has been disputing Zelensky's legitimacy as Ukrainian President, arguing that his presidential mandate expired last year, and thus any continued claim to power would be unconstitutional. Putin has stated he is willing to meet the Ukrainian leader to finalise — but not negotiate — a truce, adding that Zelensky's status as a leader must first be ensured so as to guarantee the legality of any future agreement. Dmitriev has described the Alaska summit as a 'historic opportunity' and noted the location's symbolic value, referencing the territory's 19th-century sale by Russia to the United States.
