Tragic video captures man dangling from fiery hot air balloon before plummeting to his death after saving two passengers
A man fell to his death from a hot air balloon that went up in flames during a Mexican festival Sunday, after he heroically saved the lives of two other people onboard in a horrific accident caught on camera.
Harrowing footage posted on X shows the man dangling from a rope that he became entangled in as the basket above him, a raging inferno billowing smoke, floats higher and higher above the ground in an overcast sky.
The balloon is next seen gliding along a sunny, bright blue sky when the desperate man, just a black dot from the vast distance, lets go and plummets many feet to Earth.

'I regret to inform you that during the First Balloon Festival, part of the Enrique Estrada 2025 Fair organized by the city council of this municipality, a person lost their life after an unfortunate incident while aboard a hot air balloon,' said Secretary General Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza.
The terrifying incident began on the ground when the hot air balloon, participating in the Zacatecas First Balloon Festival at the Enrique Estrada Fair, caught fire with Luicio and two other passengers sitting inside.
Lucio heroically leapt into action, grabbing the two passengers out of its basket and guiding them to safety.
But as the balloon moved, Lucio became entangled in its lines and was lifted into the air with it.
He dangled from the rope until his fatal fall, according to the local outlet.
Police arrived at the scene to recover the hero's body, and paramedics took the two injured passengers to a local hospital, where they were treated for first-degree burns.
Cops are investigating the accident and encouraged hot air balloon operators to take all safety precautions, the Riviera Maya News reported.
'We have asked the State Attorney General's Office to conduct the corresponding investigations to clarify the facts and determine responsibility. We urge all municipal authorities to strengthen their verification mechanisms to avoid these types of risks during their activities and festivities,' Reyes Mugüerza said.

Mexico: Investigation underway after severed heads and human remains found
Don't miss out on the headlines from World. Followed categories will be added to My News. Motorists have made a grisly discovery of severed human heads and remains on a road linking two Mexican states. According to the AFP, authorities were called to the scene where they found six heads along a thoroughfare in central Mexico. The remains were first reported by drivers using a road that links the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala, the prosecutors said. A spokesman added the extreme violence is rarely see in the area. Another head and other human remains were found in the western city of Colima, news outlets said Tuesday. Picture: Getty Images The heads found in Tlaxcala were those of men, the prosecutor's office said as it announced an investigation into the shocking crime. Local media reported a pamphlet was found which blamed the violence on a settling of scores between gangs that rob fuel. Both Puebla and Tlaxcala are to home to gangs that deal in drugs and fuel. But these states are new to this kind of extreme violence more common in other parts of Mexico, which is plagued by drug-related brutality. However in recent months bodies have been found in areas near the border between the two states. Extreme violence – such as decapitation – is more common in northern states and along the Pacific coast where drug cartels operate in both. On June 30 authorities found 20 bodies along a road in northwest Sinaloa state, five of them headless, as violence reached new heights. The bodies of four of the victims were hung from a bridge on a main road. Sinaloa cartel, one of Mexico's major drug-trafficking groups, has been locked in an almost year-long conflict with another one of its factions. Drug lord Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada. Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. Picture: Alfredo Estrella/AFP The carnage escalated following the arrest of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, an infamous drug lord who was arrested in July 2024 when he arrived into the US. Zambada, aged in his 70s, had allegedly worked alongside Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman operating the cartel before the latter was sentenced to life in a Colorado jail. 'El Mayo' accused Guzman's son of betrayal by alerting authorities of his arrival to the US. Zambada is expected to plead guilty to drug trafficking charges when he faces a New York court next week, after the US Justice Department said it would not see the death penalty. The Mexican army was sent to Sinaloa state in a bid to prevent further violence between cartels but have struggled to stop the deadly carnage. Picture: Ivan Medina / AFP Mexico's government had deployed thousands of soldiers to Sinaloa in a bid to end the violence that has left a reported 3000 people dead or missing. However, they have struggled to put an end to the conflict. In March 2022 six heads and other body parts were found on the roof of a car on the main street of Chilapa in the southern state of Guerrero. Around 480,000 people have died in drug-related violence around Mexico since 2006, when the government deployed federal troops to take on the country's powerful drug cartels. Puebla, Tlaxcala: Six severed heads found along road in Mexico
Drivers were left horrified after they found six severed heads along a road connecting two Mexican states. Police were called to the scene on a route passing between Puebla and Tlaxcala, areas that are generally considered peaceful and are not typically associated with cartel violence. Information about the motive of the killings, or which criminal groups they may be connected to, has not been made available by authorities yet. Local media reported that the grim discovery was made on Tuesday. A blanket was left at the scene, which contained a warning message to rival gangs, reportedly signed by a group called 'La Barredora'. The name belongs to a relatively unknown criminal group that operates out of a state in Mexico's West called Guerrero, but it remains uncertain if the group was behind the attack, the BBC reported. The heads found on the Tlaxcala portion of the road were those of men, and an investigation has been launched into their deaths. Federal authorities have not released any statements on the findings. This comes as other areas in Mexico continue to suffer from extreme cartel violence. Sinaloa had its most violent day of 2025 on August 10 when 17 homicides were recorded. An outbreak of violence in the region has been reported since the capture of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, who local authorities say was the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, on July 25, 2024. Following his arrest, homicides in the area have risen by more than 400 per cent, CNN reported. Conflict has increased because of rival factions within the cartel, which has left locals caught in the crossfire and forced businesses to close. On August 14, the US Treasury announced sanctions against two other Mexican cartels, the United Cartels (Carteles Unidos) and Los Viagras alongside seven people 'linked to terrorism, drug trafficking and extortion in Mexico's agricultural sector'. Scott Bessent, the US Secretary of the Treasury, said the action draws attention to the diverse and insidious ways that cartels engage in violent activities and exploit otherwise legitimate dealings. 'Treasury, alongside our partners in US law enforcement, will continue to target every effort by the cartels to generate revenue for their violent, criminal schemes,' he said.

Shocking footage shows illegal-migrant driver make outrageous rogue U-turn, killing three: officials
Terrifying video shows the moment a minivan ploughed into a tractor-trailer making an outrageous rogue U-turn on a Florida highway last week — with all three people in the van killed and the truck's illegal-migrant driver now charged with homicide. The roadway horror happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday on the Florida Turnpike near Fort Pierce when the tractor-trailer driven by suspect Harjinder Singh made a hard left turn across the highway and attempted to cross the median through an 'official use only' pass, authorities said. The truck's trailer blocked all of oncoming traffic's lanes as it nosed over the median — with footage from inside its cab showing a black minivan driving toward it with no time to stop and nowhere to turn to avoid a collision. Within seconds, the minivan slammed into the trailer at full speed and became wedged underneath. Photos from the wreck showed the minivan obliterated — with its contents strewn across the highway after apparently bursting from the van's side, while the roof was shorn back and crumpled over the trunk in a twisted mess of metal. Inside the truck's cab, Singh appeared completely unmoved by the violence unfolding on the highway. He looked out the cab window and watched as the minivan flew down the highway into the trailer, and when it collided and the truck was sent shuddering, his face remained unchanged as he calmly put his vehicle into park and turned the engine off. Additional footage from alongside the truck after the wreck — as rescue crews used jacks to lift the trailer from the van and extricate the passengers' remains — showed Singh standing by and watching the operation with his arms at his side and no expression on his face. Two passengers in the minivan were killed instantly, while the driver clung to life and was pulled from the wreck. The driver was later declared dead at a nearby hospital. The victims' names have not been released, but were confirmed to be a 37-year-old Pompano Beach woman, a 30-year-old Florida City man and a 54-year-old Miami man, Treasure Coast Newspapers reported. Singh was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and is in Florida custody. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer also was put out for him after it was determined that he'd been in the US illegally since 2018, when he crossed into the country over the Mexican border, CBS12 reported. It remains unclear what country Singh is originally from. He had been driving with a California commercial driver's license. If found guilty of homicide, Singh will likely serve his sentence in Florida and then be deported. 'Three people lost their lives as a result of his recklessness, and countless friends and family members will experience the pain of their loss forever,' said the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles' executive director, Dave Kerner. 'Harjinder Singh is in custody on state vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations. He will no longer be able to damage and destroy the lives of Floridians and visitors,' he added, according to CBS 12.
