James Bond ‘frontrunner' breaks silence on being linked with 007 role ahead of the release of history-making new series

The Suna day ago
BRITISH actor Mike Dickman has spoken about being linked with the vacant 007 role for the first time.
The rising star, 40, is building an impressive portfolio after swapping a high-flying corporate career in the sports industry for his acting passion.

In just a few short years, he's had a cameo role in blockbuster Barbie, landed a supporting role in psychological thriller Secrets, which is released on Amazon on August 19, and will also feature prominently in upcoming series Gandhi - the first Indian series to premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.
Earlier this year, bookies even listed him as a surprise frontrunner to replace Daniel Craig as Bond, along with household names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, affable Mike says: "It's crazy flattering to be mentioned in a bracket with all of those tremendous actors who have got a lot more experience than I do.
"I don't know what to say, Dan. I mean, for all I know, you could be working for Blofeld [laughs].
"No, it's been really interesting to see what they end up doing with the project. It's obviously a whole rebirth of an incredible franchise, isn't it?"
While Amazon MGM Studios may end up looking elsewhere for the iconic suave spy, there's no doubting Mike's star is on the rise.
But the humble actor is all too aware productions are a collaborative effort and is effusive in his praise of his fellow cast and crew, complimenting Charlotte Jackson Colman, the former Sky Sports presenter who plays the lead role of Sammy in Secrets, and Gandhi lead Pratik Gandhi, who he calls "absolutely fantastic".
The latter project is a retelling of political and philanthropic powerhouse Mahatma Gandhi's incredible life story, which was famously brought to the big screen by Sir Ben Kingsley in the 1982 epic.
In the new series, Mike plays racist Captain Harry Sparks who tried to put a stop to Gandhi's time in South Africa.
Originally, producers had intended to cast an Akrikaans speaking actor, but were impressed by Mike's ability to capture the accent. It's role that could further elevate his growing status in the industry.
He says: "You never know in this industry if you're ever going to break out.
"I think it's really hard to predict what it's going to be as well. I'm lucky I haven't experienced this personally yet, but I know people that have a whole body of work on TV or film, and then you think your role is going to be something and then decisions are made in the edit.
"The storyline changes or whatever and suddenly your role is not quite what you thought it was going to be."
He continues: "I'm extremely humbled, I guess, by some of the feedback I've had from the production team on Gandhi. And I think from my conversations with Hansal [Mehta, director], I think he sees it as quite a key role in the telling of the story.
"I'm sure that he's done a brilliant job with the series. I mean, Pratik Gandhi, who's playing Gandhi, was absolutely fantastic to act opposite, because it's such an iconic kind of character acting role.
"I know people might roll their eyes when you say things like this, but it is so true, like those actors that can do so much without doing anything, he's one of those. You just sort of standing there opposite him in a scene and you're like, oh, he's got a real presence. So that was that was really cool to witness."
Before then, viewers can watch Mike, who is in a relationship with Heather Mills, flex is acting chops in Secrets as Robert, the partner of bereaved daughter Sammy [Jackson Colman].
The film begins with a brutal murder and follows Sammy as she delve back into a dark past she'd left behind.
He says: "She starts witnessing a chain of events that she can't quite understand. She's not quite sure what's going on or why it's happening.
"She doesn't have much support around her. She's come home, back to her hometown after the passing of her mother. And I suppose I attempt to be a kind of a rock and a support for her in the situation and and try and help her work out what's going on, because neither of us are aware of what mysterious events may have occurred in the past or what may be happening now, and what might be happening after that."
Director Chris Norton was a powerhouse on the set, infecting those around him with his enthusiasm and keeping morale up even when they were shooting in breath-stopping sub zero temperatures.
Norton has a cult following in America thanks to his previous Amazon film My Month With Mrs. Potter.

"I think he's able to craft a really interesting nuanced story that people can immerse themselves in and get involved in that's not obvious," says Mike. "It has plenty of twists and turns, but you really end up empathising with the characters.
Highlighting Chris's commitment, Mike says: "We had one night where we filmed towards the end of the movie, we filmed a scene that took place in the middle of a forest in Surrey. And it was minus four, it was like the coldest day in January last year.
"And everybody else is a bit delirious. We've gone numb by this stage. And Chris is rolling around in flip flops and a T-shirt just going, 'right, what's next? What's next? OK, I need to get that shot again'."
There's not much time to dwell on Secrets' release though, as Mike is already hard at work on an adaptation of William Corlett's novel, Now and Then by Matt Weston.
The relationship-driven coming-of-age drama has got Mike excited and he believes it's a film that will stand the test of time.
He says: "It's about a kid at school who goes through a particular experience and struggles to kind of reconcile it and adapt his relationships in later life as a result.
"We're hoping that will end up being a sort of a quintessential kind of British drama and one that people can come back to as well."
There's little doubt that Mike will be on screen for a long time to come.

Harry Potter director reveals struggle to get support from 'suspicious' crew

Harry Potter director Chris Columbus recalled the crew's initial suspicions of him and how much 'work' it took to get their support. The filmmaker helmed the first two movies in the franchise, 2001's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and 2002 sequel, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He most recently worked on the eagerly-anticipated adaptation of the Thursday Murder Club on Netflix, starring Pierce Brosnan, Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie During a Q&A session with the cast at the New York premiere, held at the Paris Theater, host Josh Horowitz asked how he managed being an American surrounded by a group of A-list Brits on set – and he compared the experience to his efforts on the wizarding series. 'I had already been through it with Potter,' the 66-year-old replied, explaining that he grew up with a 'love of everything British', stemming from the Beatles and watching A Hard Day's Night and Help! 'I'm pretty well steeped in the culture, and I dealt with all the jokes and the ridiculousness when I started Harry Potter – the first two weeks, the crew was completely suspicious of me. '[They] thought, 'What's this Yank doing here?' I heard all the Chris Columbus, Christopher Columbus jokes… But then you have to keep up. You have to keep up a certain level. 'The thing about working with the Brits is you have to keep up a certain level of humor. It's self-deprecating humor, and you have to be as sharp as f**k. 'You cannot ever, ever… If you lose your step, you lose your step for the whole shoot. 'For me, it was casting all of these incredibly brilliant, funny people and just keeping up with them. I hope that endeared me to the crew the second time. 'It was a lot of work on Potter to get that support from the crew – it felt a lot more comfortable going back for the second time on this movie. I'd do it again in a second.' Chris jumped straight into another book adaptation – with a mostly British cast – for the Thursday Murder Club, which is landing on Netflix in just a few weeks. The upcoming murder mystery film, based on Richard Osman's best-selling novel of the same name, follows retirees who spend their free time casually solving cold cases – but things take a murderous turn when they are thrown into a real crime. Naomi Ackie, Richard E Grant, Tom Ellis, David Tennant and Daniel Mays make up the rest of the line-up. Speaking of the star-studded cast, Chris revealed that they were all the first choices for their roles – which had only previously happened when working on Harry Potter. He continued: 'The interesting comparison, ironically, is that on Potter, we made a list of all of our first choices – Dame Maggie Smith, Richard Harris and Robbie Coltrane – and they all said yes, and that has not happened to me in 20 years, until this book.' 'And it was Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Ben Kingsley, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie, and they all said yes. It inspires you to only want to work with British actors because they say yes,' he laughed. 'It was a labor of love … because when I walked in the first day of rehearsal, when we were reading through the script, the four of them were sitting there, and it was 160 years of British cinema, and it's very intimidating. More Trending 'I could hear my voice [shaking] and I had to get over that. 'They just set such a level of trust. I felt trusted, and I hope you all felt trusted. It was just this level of trust that we all had through the course of the film. I think you can see it on screen, definitely.' Strictly star La Voix commits to huge live show during BBC competition

The strictly singer is juggling a huge show of her own, alongside their appearance on this year's Strictly Come Dancing -taking her up and down the country this Autumn La Voix is just one of the fifteen celebrity contestants expected to star in this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing, and yet it turns out they may have made prior commitments. ‌ The British drag performer and singer, known for competing on both Britain's Got Talent and RuPaul's Drag Race UK, has signed herself up for yet another challenge in 2025. Although, as the news just dropped, it appears there may be a slight clash in the queen's schedule. ‌ Fans can get a hold of tickets to see La Voix in her huge UK tour, The Show Isn't Over, this November. It aims to be an entertaining evening jam-packed with laughs, performances and a live band, as she takes the stage up and down the country, with tickets starting from £32.25. It comes after a Strictly Come Dancing star pulls out of show as he makes career announcement. ‌ The event's description states: "Join us for a spectacular evening filled with electrifying all-live singing and band performances and a hilarious comedy show that will leave you in awe. La Voix's powerhouse vocals combined with side-splitting comedy guarantee an experience like no other. "Get ready to be swept off your feet by the charm, talent, and humour of this incredible show! Don't miss out on the opportunity to witness the best show in town! Get ready to laugh, sing, and dance the night away with La Voix!" It can't help but raise a few red flags, as fans of the dance competition will know; if you continue throughout the show, the final can take you right up until mid-December. The dates set out for the tour run from September 17 right through until November 5. Having come from a performing background, there's no reason to say that La Voix won't be thriving in the competition and, as those dates roll around, find it hard to commit to both performances. The shows expect to see her take on shows in Manchester, Glasgow, London, Brighton, Portsmouth and more. ‌ Meanwhile, fellow celebs showed their support for the drag performer's Strictly debut, along with excitable fans who can't wait to see her grace their screens once again. Oti Mabuse wrote: "ABOUT TIME!!!" You've been dreaming about this for years – I hope it's everything and more you've been waiting for." A thrilled fan also commented: "Is La Voix the first drag queen artist, or am I forgetting someone? This feels like a first. Imagine the glam and glitter." While La Voix is no stranger to a stage, she has opened up about her nerves for taking part in the 2025 competition. She shared: "I've performed for royalty, RuPaul and Simon Cowell, but nothing fills me with more excitement (and quite a bit of terror) than the thought of dancing in front of millions on live Saturday night TV. ‌ "Strictly is a national institution, and I can't wait to get started. All that's left to say is: good luck to my partner! Here's hoping they can help me go from La Voix into La Danse." But it appears that she already has her hopes set on being partnered with a specific dancer. Speaking to the Daily Star, she said: "I think I'm gonna do well on the entertainment factor. If you're asking me if my posture, alignment and arm lines are gonna be right, don't hold your breath. "But I'm gonna try my real hardest to nail it and do the ballroom fans proud." Speaking about which dancer she wants to be partnered with, she added: "I like the one with the big arms and the snake hips... that's all of them. I'm casting my net wide. Someone who can lift me up and show me off, that's what I want. "I like Kai. Secret inside knowledge, when I did my little dance trial for the show, I had Kai for my audition, so maybe that would be nice. He's a great guy, an amazing teacher."
