'Kiss Cam' Replaced By 'Coldplay Cam' Days After Andy Byron-Kristin Cabot Affair Scandal
The traditional Kiss Cam has reportedly been replaced by the 'Coldplay Cam' at sporting events across the US, following a controversy involving Astronomer Inc. CEO Andy Byron.
The Kiss Cam, which brought all attention to technology firm Astronomer Inc. CEO Andy Byron and his colleague, Kristin Cabot, during a Coldplay concert, has reportedly been replaced by the 'Coldplay Cam'.
According to a social media post, the cam has been replaced at sporting events across the country. The development comes after Byron submitted his resignation following the controversy.
WHAT IS A KISS CAM?
According to the information available on the internet, the kiss cam trend is a social pastime that takes place during arena, stadium and court sporting events in the United States and Canada.
A kiss cam scans the crowd and selects a couple, whose images are shown on the Jumbotron screens in the arena.
The kiss cam tradition originated in California in the early 1980s, as a way to fill in the gaps in play in professional baseball games, taking advantage of the possibilities of the then-new giant video screens.
When the kiss cam is in action, the audience may be alerted by a known 'kiss-related' song being played, and/or an announcer warning the crowd.
The crowd then pays attention to the marked 'kiss cam' video screen.
Usually, several consecutive couples are selected, appear on the screen, and are then expected to kiss.
THE COLDPLAY CONCERT AND ANDY BYRON CONTROVERSY
Andy Byron resigned as the CEO of Astronomer Inc. on Saturday after a video of him embracing an alleged colleague at the Coldplay concert went viral and fueled relentless memes.
'Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met," New York-based Astronomer mentioned in a statement shared on LinkedIn.
'Andy Byron has tendered his resignation," the firm said, after previously launching an investigation.
During a Coldplay concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, the jumbotron zoomed in on a man and a woman embracing in the stands.
But the canoodling pair appeared shocked and horrified when they spotted themselves on the big screen, with the man ducking out of frame and the woman hiding her face.
'Uh-oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy," joked Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
Within hours, internet sleuths tracked down the man as Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and said the woman was the company's chief people officer, Kristin Cabot, alleging that the two were having a not-so-discreet affair.
The video has garnered millions of views on multiple social media platforms, giving rise to memes discussing everything from the folly of having an affair at a Coldplay concert to the hypocrisy of an HR representative seemingly caught in a workplace relationship.

Patar's poetry finds new script, techie decodes him for other Pb
Chandigarh: Motivated by a love for language and growing demand from readers in Pakistan, Melbourne-based Tejinder Singh has taken it upon himself to translate the works of iconic Punjabi poet Surjit Patar into Shahmukhi, the script used in West Punjab. The 48-year-old computing professional who moved to Australia two decades ago began the project by translating Khudkushi (suicide), one of Patar's acclaimed poems, into Shahmukhi and sharing it on X (formerly Twitter). "I'm surprised to find that Patar remains untranslated into Shahmukhi or English," he wrote. "I start a humble effort to bridge these languages, translating his works one poem at a time." His effort drew praise from British MP Preet Kaur Gill, who posted the original Gurmukhi version in appreciation. Born at Bhagowal village in Punjab's Gurdaspur district, Tejinder Singh said the idea had struck him after repeated requests from readers in Pakistani Punjab. "They want to read Patar, and it's disheartening that his poetry remains inaccessible there largely due to script barriers," he said. Even though trained in computing — with a bachelor's degree from India and a master's from Australia — Tejinder Singh taught himself Shahmukhi using open resources. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Live Updates: Insurance Coverage GIP & GLP-1 Agonists GoodRx Learn More Undo "Shahmukhi is similar to Urdu, but with an extra layer of diacritics for Punjabi sounds," he explained. While he uses artificial intelligence tools during the process, he says he reviews and refines each translation manually to preserve the original poem's emotional and literary essence. The translator believes literature is key to rebuilding lost cultural ties between East and West Punjab. "There are about 3 crore Punjabis in Indian Punjab, but 13 crore in Pakistani Punjab. Our shared literature deserves to be read and loved across the border," he said. Calling his initiative a personal passion project, Tejinder Singh plans to continue translating Patar's poetry to ensure the late poet's work transcends scripts, borders, and generations. One poem at a time, he'll send, a bridge of ink the border can't end. MSID:: 122955215 413 |
