The Sun05-05-2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed hope that the appointment of three new members to the Special Committee on Corruption (JKMR) would strengthen public confidence in the government's efforts to enhance integrity and governance.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said that the committee plays a crucial role in advising the Prime Minister on various aspects related to corruption issues and reviewing the Annual Report of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
'It is hoped that the appointment of these JKMR members would reinforce public trust in the government's efforts to improve integrity and governance, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasises the values of transparency and accountability in the country's administration system,' he posted.
Earlier, Anwar presented the appointment letter to the three new members of the special committee, namely Senator Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, Senator Datuk Seri Prof Emeritus Dr Awang Sariyan, and Langkawi Member of Parliament Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah in a simple ceremony at the Parliament building, witnessed by MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The appointment is for a term of three years, effective from April 25, 2025, to April 25, 2028.

Al-Sultan Abdullah calls for stronger role for Pahang Royal Council

KUANTAN: Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today attended the 119th Pahang Royal Council Meeting here. Also present were His Royal Highness's children, Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah, Tengku Panglima Raja Brigadier-General Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah, and Tengku Panglima Perang Tengku Ahmad Ismail Mu'adzam Shah. During the meeting, His Royal Highness emphasised several important matters that required attention, among them strengthening the Royal Council so that it was not merely symbolic or ceremonial. Al-Sultan Abdullah said that he was currently reviewing the establishment of a Royal Council Working Committee as a platform to enhance the council's functions and contributions to the people and the state. 'Among the possible roles and responsibilities are serving as an independent advisory body that conveys the people's views to the state administration, supporting environmental conservation efforts—especially on critical issues—and strengthening social networks through welfare initiatives and support for the underprivileged. 'I don't want to see Council members merely filling seats in official halls and chambers, but rather becoming key proponents and bulwarks of Pahang, offering wise counsel, leading by example, and serving with sincerity and integrity,' His Royal Highness decreed in a statement uploaded on the Pahang Sultanate's Facebook page. His Royal Highness also emphasised that such a role would not only strengthen the royal institution but also assure the people that they had a pillar of support and a voice that is heard in the state administration.

Govt Drafting Strategy To Develop Local Corn Grain Industry- PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- The government will formulate an effective strategy to develop the local corn grain industry to reduce dependence on imported commodities, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar said the move to develop the main ingredient ecosystem in the country's livestock sector was described as an important approach that could stimulate the development of the country's agro-food sector, increase rural economic opportunities and strengthen the resilience of the country's food system. "The Cabinet Committee Meeting on National Food Security Policy No. 1/2025 which I chaired today agreed for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to formulate a strategy for the development of the local corn industry," he said in a Facebook post today.
