PM Anwar appoints three to anti-graft committee, says move aims to restore trust in governance
KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed hope that the appointment of three new members to the Special Committee on Corruption (JKMR) would strengthen public confidence in the government's efforts to enhance integrity and governance. In a Facebook post, Anwar said that the committee plays a crucial role in advising the prime minister on various aspects related to corruption issues and reviewing the Annual Report of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). 'It is hoped that the appointment of these JKMR members would reinforce public trust in the government's efforts to improve integrity and governance, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani, which emphasises the values of transparency and accountability in the country's administration system,' he posted. Earlier, Anwar presented the appointment letter to the three new members of the special committee, namely Senator Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, Senator Datuk Seri Prof Emeritus Dr Awang Sariyan, and Langkawi Member of Parliament Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah in a simple ceremony at the Parliament building, witnessed by MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki. Paya Besar MP Mohd Shahar reappointed as JKMR Chairman
PUTRAJAYA: Paya Besar Member of Parliament Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah has been reappointed as Chairman of the Special Committee on Corruption (JKMR) for another three years, effective last April 25. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), in a statement today, said that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had consented to the appointment on the advice of the Prime Minister by the provisions in Section 14 of the MACC Act (Act 694). The instrument of appointment was presented to Mohd Shahar by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and witnessed by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki at the Parliament building, Kuala Lumpur today. Also receiving their instruments of appointment today were Batang Lupar MP Mohd Shafizan Kepli, Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman and Tawau MP Lo Su Fui, who have been re-appointed to the committee for another three-year term. Three new members have been appointed to the committee. They are Senator Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, Senator Datuk Seri Profesor Emeritus Dr. Awang Sariyan and Langkawi MP Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah. According to the statement, the role of the JKMR members is to advise the Prime Minister on various aspects of corruption problems in the country and examine the MACC Annual Report. The JKMR's role is also to examine the comments of the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) and seek clarification and explanation on the Commission's annual report, it said. 'Hopefully, the appointment of the new JKMR members will help meet public expectations on the independence, efficiency, effectiveness, transparency, and accountability of the commission in discharging its responsibilities,' read the statement.
