Hot Property: $2.8M Anne Arundel County estate overlooks Herring Bay

Address: 6975 Kim Lane, Friendship List Price: $2,800,000 Year built: 1985 Real estate agent: Jeannette Westcott, Keller Williams Realty Centre Last sold price/date: $520,000 / Oct. 21, 2015 Property size: 2.73 acres Unique features: At the southern tip of Anne Arundel County sits this contemporary-style home, an upscale entry in a still-rural landscape. Perched on the cusp of Herring Bay, the 40-year-old estate overlooks the water and is close to Herrington Harbour South, a high-end marina with its boating, swimming and recreation perks. It's a bright and airy residence with, in part, lofty 10-foot ceilings and sleek Italian ceramic tile floors. The entrance alone sets the tone, with a front door imported from Germany, a custom-made chandelier in the foyer, and a split and winding staircase leading to the upper level. There are four bedrooms and three full bathrooms, one with a soaking tub and heaven-sent heated floors. The kitchen boasts a 6-burner gas cooktop with griddle, two sinks and double ovens. Cabinet space abounds, and a butler's pantry adds another sink and more convenient storage space, at arm's length, for busy cooks. Other amenities include a wine cellar, cigar lounge and wet bar. The nearly 3-acre property features a heated outdoor pool and a vine-draped gazebo with a kitchen, TV and eating area. Raised garden beds and handsome fencing keep critters at bay, while an irrigation system keeps the lawn looking lush. There are two garages (one with a guest suite overhead) and an enormous circular driveway, totaling 24 parking spaces. Apparently, someone counted. Have a news tip? Sleep in the Clouds at Shangri-La The Shard, London

Sleep in the Clouds at Shangri-La The Shard, London originally appeared on L.A. Mag. The Shard building, designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano to represent, as its name suggests, a shard of glass, is more than an iconic landmark. As the tallest building in the United Kingdom — standing 1,016-feet tall — the eco-conscious high-rise shines brightly over the Thames and some of the city's most recognized landmarks, such as St. Paul's Cathedral and the Tower Bridge. The behemoth is also home to Shangri-La The Shard, London, a five-star hotel that starts on the 34th floor and climbs up 18 stories to house its 202 rooms and suites, all with breathtaking vistas that can be taken in without leaving the luxury linens of the bed. In fact, there is little reason to leave the hotel at all if one is looking for unmatched luxe service and worldly, award-winning cuisine, especially after being greeted by General Manager Kurt Macher and his adorable little dog Rocky. Like many luxury properties, Shangri-La The Shard is leaning into not just being dog friendly, but encouraging the property to offer pet-passionate accommodations with Rocky acting as the unofficial diplomat for his fellow furry friends. The hotel's TING restaurant includes a renowned afternoon tea, and for those who don't suffer from vertigo, a visit to GONG — on the building's 52nd level, the highest hotel bar in Western Europe— is a must. But the real delight is the spa with an infinity pool that hovers over the entire city. This summer, the Shangri-La The Shard, London is offering an Eat, Play, Love package inspired by the bestselling book of a similar name by Elizabeth Gilbert, which became a hit movie starring Julia Roberts. You can Eat your way through the iconic Borough Market alongside an award-winning chef who will help handpick the finest seasonal ingredients - with a quick stop at the doorway of the building that served as the movie home of beloved character Bridget Jones - before returning to the hotel where the chef will prepare a personalized meal based on your choices. Or experience a high tea in the exquisite Hollywood star-worthy suite (rumor has it Beyonce posted up here) with delightful treats. Play came in the form of a private yacht experience along the Thames with bites and sips as we took in the sights, which included the headquarters for the legendary spy agency (Bond, James Bond) MI5 headquartered in the Thames Building and the neighborhoods built along the river. Love can certainly be found in the serene and scenic heights of the spa, where Elemis facials can be had in private rooms located high above London. Languishing in the warm waters is the epitome of romance, as are the bathtubs for two in many of the hotel's rooms. The city itself is spectacular, a walkable neighborhood and The Shard is in the center of it all. This story was originally reported by L.A. Mag on Jun 3, 2025, where it first appeared.

Meloni and Macron pledge 'unwavering' support for Ukraine

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron to Rome with a firm handshake on Tuesday, a meeting that many interpreted as a sign of diplomatic rapprochement. Following a three-hour discussion, the two leaders issued a joint statement pledged their "unwavering" support for Ukraine, calling it necessary for achieving a "just and lasting solution" to the conflict. Ahead of the meeting, the Élysée Palace had said that there were points between Macron and Meloni that needed to be clarified, particularly regarding support for Ukraine. The statement also underscored the need for an "ambitious change in scale" in European defence, while adding that the two leaders also discussed topics including the situation in the Middle East and European cooperation on migration policy. The meeting at Chigi Palace, the seat of Italian government, was considered a diplomatic reset between Paris and Rome, even though both sides stressed that there had never been a cold spell. The leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy party said last week that they have many commonalities but also differences. She said it is important to talk, even in the face of disagreements. Italy is an important partner, the Élysée Palace said, adding that Meloni would not be ostracized in any way. The relationship between the two has recently seemed tense. In Rome, Macron's trip to Kiev with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer caused irritation as Meloni was not included. Even in the "coalition of the willing" initiated by Macron to support Ukraine after a ceasefire, the positions diverge: Italy strictly opposes sending troops. The strategies of the two leaders also differ in their stance towards US President Donald Trump: Rome focuses on closeness and mediation, while Paris emphasizes European independence. The next bilateral meeting between Italy and France is scheduled to take place in France in early 2026.
