Op Sasar: JIM detains 129 illegal immigrants at Cyberjaya construction site
Its deputy director-general (Operations) Jafri Embok Taha said a total of 223 PATI were inspected in the targeted operation involving 81 people before detaining 129 individuals, aged between 25 and 50 years old, consisting of Indonesians, Myanmarese, Vietnamese and Bangladeshis.
'Some of the foreigners acted aggressively by trying to escape into the bushes and building structures that were still under construction. Some of them tried to hide in cement barrels, wall gaps and storage spaces.
'This situation shows a low level of cooperation and a security threat to the operations team,' he said in a statement here today.
Jafri said among the offences detected included not having valid travel documents, overstaying the permit period, misuse of Temporary Work Visit Passes (PLKS) and working without a valid pass.
He said action would be taken against employers and construction site supervisors under the Immigration Act 1959/63 including Section 558 (employing illegal immigrants) and Section 56(1)(d) (protecting illegal immigrants).
'The Immigration Department will not hesitate to take action such as suspending the approval of worker quotas or taking civil legal action against the companies involved,' he said.
The operation was carried out simultaneously with 16 operations nationwide according to sectors including construction, plantations, services, and other sectors that employ foreign workers will be inspected.
It aims to remind employers not to hire and employ PATI who do not have any valid work documents.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department should establish a clear standard operating procedure (SOP) on the use and storage of body camera recordings by its officers during enforcement operations, the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) said. The recommendation followed an EAIC investigation into a complaint that Kuala Lumpur Immigration officers allegedly acted roughly towards a person during an enforcement operation on June 25. The EAIC said investigations revealed that the complainant could not identify or recognise any officer or personnel alleged to have acted roughly. At the same time, the body camera recordings could not be retrieved as the data is only stored for 30 days. The commission said the Immigration Department needed to adopt a specific SOP governing the use of body cameras to ensure transparency in the execution of duties and to avoid negative public allegations in the future. "The implementation of this SOP is important to safeguard the integrity and accountability of enforcement agencies and to enhance public confidence in the agency," it said in a statement today. The EAIC said that the investigation into the complaint was conducted under subsection 27(4) of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009 [Act 700]. It said that the police investigation paper on the incident was classified as "No Further Action" (NFA) by the deputy public prosecutor. "Closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings at the location could not be obtained as the equipment had been dismantled immediately after authorities raided the premises. "All Immigration officers and personnel involved in the operation gave statements denying any rough treatment or assault on the person concerned," it said.

'Following a two-day joint sea and land enforcement operation, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture held a meeting with the Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment and relevant enforcement agencies to address tourism safety issues, illegal operations and enforcement in Sabah. 'In that meeting, I raised several serious weaknesses regarding tourism safety in Sabah, where the safety of tourists is seen as insufficiently protected,' he said in a statement. According to him, statistics showed between 2023 and July 2025, Sabah recorded several tourism-related accidents that caused multiple deaths and injuries. 'In 2023 alone, there were 14 incidents resulting in six deaths and nine injuries; in 2024, 11 incidents with nine deaths and 28 injuries; while in 2025, up to July, there were 23 incidents with two deaths and two injuries. 'These frequent accidents highlight weak safety management and regulatory oversight, which undermine travellers' confidence and damage Sabah's international tourism reputation,' he said. Tiong said during the two-day operation, he personally led officers from the Tourism Licensing and Enforcement Division and Immigration Department, police and other agencies on inspections around Tawau. He said the operation revealed widespread illegal practices, including overloaded tour buses without tour guides; foreigners renting local licences and operating behind the scenes; foreign divers working illegally; non-tourism vehicles carrying passengers; and boats operating with approval. 10 Myanmar Nationals Detained Trying To Cross Into Malaysia
KOTA BHARU, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Army (TDM) detained 10 Myanmar nationals attempting to cross Sungai Golok illegally into Malaysia from Thailand. A statement from TDM's 2nd Infantry Division today said the undocumented migrants (PATI) comprised four men and six women, aged between 19 and 35, with some of them carrying Myanmar identification documents and passports. 'Several personal items, including mobile phones and cash in Malaysian, Myanmar and Thai currencies, were also confiscated.
