KL police brace for big turnout at July 26 rally, to deploy over 2,000 officers
Kuala Lumpur acting police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said police had received notification of the rally from the organisers, which was submitted to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD).
'We have identified four gathering points before participants head to Dataran Merdeka, namely Sogo, Masjid Jamek, Masjid Negara and Pasar Seni,' he said.
'So far, based on projections by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Special Branch, between 10,000 and 15,000 people are expected to attend the rally,' he told reporters after the Kuala Lumpur police chief handover-of-duties ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters (IPK) today.
He added that while police respect the community's right to peaceful assembly, participants are urged to avoid provocation and maintain proper conduct to ensure public safety and security.
'They have the right to voice their views; however, if any offences occur in terms of speech, such as provocation or issues involving the 3Rs (religion, race and royalty), we will take action,' he said.
He added that, for now, there is no need to close any roads, but police will continue to monitor and assess the situation on the day of the rally.
On a separate matter, regarding the kidnapping of Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh, Mohamed Usuf said police have yet to obtain significant new leads that could assist the investigation.
He said 48 witnesses from within and outside Malaysia have recorded their statements, while the photofit of the suspect has provided little progress so far.
On April 9, Ling, 42, was reported missing while on her way to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in an e-hailing ride to record a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation. Police received a report on her disappearance at 3.02 pm the same day. — Bernama

Zara Qairina, 13, was reported to have died after allegedly falling from the third floor of her school dormitory in Papar, Sabah, in the early hours of July 17. Meanwhile, the Sabah Education Department has set up a special task force to provide assistance to staff and students at the school where Zara Qairina died last week. In a statement, the department said the task force was formed to implement crisis and trauma intervention measures, including support for pupils, teachers, and school staff affected by the incident. The department also stressed that its immediate priority is to safeguard the well-being of Zara Qairina's family. 'The department has provided immediate assistance. We have also organised several outreach visits to engage with the family and share updates on the case. 'Psychosocial support services have also been made available. The department added that it is extending full cooperation to the police in their investigation into the case. 'This is crucial to ensure a smooth investigation process and that justice is served,' it said.

Football federation duped by fake emails claiming Xavi and Guardiola applied for India coaching job
NEW DELHI, July 26 — The All India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed today that a job application attributed to former Barcelona manager and Spain midfielder Xavi Hernandez for the India head coaching role was a hoax. The AIFF's national team director told The Times of India on Thursday that Xavi's name was on the list of applicants. The report also quoted an AIFF technical committee member saying the his candidacy was deemed too expensive to pursue. 'The AIFF received an email furnishing the applications from Spanish coaches Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez. The authenticity of their applications could not be confirmed, and it has since emerged that the email applications were not genuine,' the AIFF said in a statement. It had not been previously reported that the AIFF had also received an application purporting to be from Manchester City manager Guardiola. The AIFF Technical Committee said it had reviewed 170 applications for the Indian men's head coach role, narrowing the list to 10 before short-listing three candidates. The AIFF sacked former India manger Igor Stimac in June last year before appointing Spaniard Manolo Marquez, who left the job this month and returned to his role as coach of Indian Super League team FC Goa. — Reuters
