The BMC targets illegal buildings in Mumbai's Madh area, including one by actor Mithun Chakraborty. He must justify the construction or face demolition and legal action.
The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) is getting serious about clearing out illegal buildings in Mumbai's Madh area. Now, Mithun Chakraborty's name has landed on the list too. The veteran actor and BJP leader has been served a showcause notice for putting up an allegedly unauthorised ground-floor structure on a plot in Erangle village, Malad.
According to the civic authorities, Mithun now has to explain why the construction shouldn't be pulled down. If he doesn't respond or fails to justify it, the BMC says they'll demolish it. There's also a warning of possible legal action.
This isn't a one-off. The BMC has flagged over 100 unauthorised structures in the Madh area, including some bungalows that were reportedly built using fake layout plans. Officials say they plan to remove all such illegal buildings by the end of May.
'During inspections near Hira devi Mandir in Erangle village, two one-plus-mezzanine-storey buildings, one ground-floor structure, and three temporary units made from bricks, wood, glass, and AC sheets. These structures have been built on the area without taking permission from the competent authority, for which a show cause notice has been issued to the actor," said civic sources.
The BMC has invoked Section 351(1A) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act to issue a notice to Mithun Chakraborty, giving him a week from May 10 to respond. He's been asked to clarify why the alleged construction shouldn't be taken down, modified, or why the use of the space shouldn't be reversed. If he fails to respond in time, the civic body may move forward with action against the structure.
An official stated that violations of this kind fall under Section 475A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, which can lead to fines and even jail time. Responding to the notice, Mithun Chakraborty maintained his stance, telling Free Press Journal, 'I have no unauthorised structures. Notices have been sent to many, and we are sending our replies."

Bengaluru stampede: BJP demands resignation of CM, Dy. CM and Home Minister on moral grounds

Upping the ante against the Congress government on the stampede that claimed 11 lives and left at least 56 persons injured during RCB's victory celebrations in Bengaluru, the Opposition BJP on Thursday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Home Minister G. Parameshwara on moral grounds. Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra criticised Mr. Siddaramaiah for allegedly evading responsibility by claiming that it was an event that had been organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association and attempting to cover up his government's mistakes. Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok also demanded that both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister should resign. Referring to the RCB's catchline Ee Sala kappu nammadu (This time cup is ours), Mr. Ashok remarked: 'Cup nammadu, thappu yaradu? (cup is ours, whose is the mistake?) 'The investigation must be conducted under the supervision of a High Court judge, and an SIT should be formed for this purpose. The report must be submitted directly to the High Court. Justice must be delivered for all these deaths, and those responsible must be punished,' he said. Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje, who visited the injured persons in the hospitals where they are being treated, termed the action of organising a mega event without proper preparations as a 'criminal act.' Pointing out that the neighbouring Telangana had acted sternly against Telugu actor Allu Arjun for the stampede in a film theatre, she wondered why Karnataka has not taken similar measures.
