Fake New York doctor shares grim details of how glamorous young mom died during botched Brazilian butt lift

Daily Mail29-04-2025

A fake New York doctor has detailed the grim moment a glamorous young mom died at his hands during a botched Brazilian butt lift procedure.
Felipe Hoyos-Foronda, 37, of Astoria, Queens, was indicted on Monday for manslaughter and assault charges over the death of 31-year-old María Paz Peñaloza.
The Colombian, who is not licensed to practice in New York, was nabbed at a Starbucks inside John F Kennedy Airport on March 28 after he fled his Astoria apartment, where Peñaloza was suffering lidocaine toxicity, according to the New York Daily News (NYDN).
'I booked the flight while I was driving,' he allegedly told investigators. 'I was going to go back to Colombia.'
He was due to catch a flight from New York to Florida and then eventually to Colombia.
'Moments before he was able to board that flight police officers apprehended this defendant on the Starbucks line,' Assistant District Attorney Gregory Lasak said.
Authorities say they found a bloody syringe, used syringes, an empty bottle of lidocaine and other medications inside a bag in his car, NYDN reported.
Peñaloza, a mother of two, had gone to his home for a $1,900 procedure to have a botched silicon butt implant removed when he injected lidocaine - a local anesthetic - into her buttocks.
'After I injected her, she started to speak funny and then she stopped speaking,' he told investigators, NYDN reported. 'Slurred speech is normal during this type of anesthesia, even though it's local.
'After she tightened up, she didn't respond. She had low pressure and a low pulse. I administered CPR.'
When he couldn't revive her, the doctor took off toward the airport, as he knew he was not legally allowed to practice medicine in the States.
'I showed paramedics. I am not a licensed doctor here. I understand I am not allowed to practice medicine,' he told authorities.
However, he assured authorities that he had performed the procedures 'hundreds of times' and had been practicing inside the makeshift space 'for a few months.'
'I've done work on many girls,' he allegedly said, according to NYDN.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said her office did not know how Hoyos-Foronda procured the drug.
'Please be careful,' she advised. 'We've had several of these cases here in Queens where people hold themselves out to be medical professionals but indeed they are not certified.'
She encouraged anyone who received a medical service by Hoyos-Foronda to come forward.
The mother-of-two had arrived to his apartment with a friend around 1pm on March 28. When she became lightheaded, Hoyos-Foronda called 911 and fled.
When first responders arrived, they found Peñaloza unconscious on a medical chair and she was transferred to Mount Sinai Queens, a DA press release said.
Peñaloza went without a pulse for two hours, according to the New York Post.
She had no signs of brain activity. On April 11, she was taken off life support, the DA said.
The victim's mother, Gladys Cabrera, wants to see the fake doctor 'go to jail,' she told NYDN.
'He's dangerous to the society... She didn't deserve this,' she told the outlet at the courthouse on Monday.
Theodore Paloumbas, the victim's husband of three years, said he didn't even know she had gone to Astoria for the removal.
'We had been married for three years. I did not know that she was going for this procedure,' he told NYDN.
Her sister, Lucy Peñaloza, told the New York Post: 'The family is paying the consequences and we're waiting for him to suffer the full weight of the law.'
Hoyos-Foronda is expected back in court on June 3. He faces up to 15 years in prison.

Police arrest 300 people in major crackdown on illegal working in Scotland

Officers have been swooping on businesses across the country in a bid to tackle those abusing the UK immigration system. Over 300 people have been arrested in Scotland as part of an operation to disable illegal working in the UK. Officers have been swooping on businesses across the country in a bid to tackle those abusing the UK immigration system and exploiting vulnerable people. A particular focus has been on cracking down on employers facilitating illegal working - often subjecting migrants to squalid conditions and illegal working hours below minimum wage. Restaurants, nail bars and construction sites have been among the thousands of businesses targeted. Since July 2024, 469 visits resulted in 309 arrests - marking a 63% and 68% rise respectively to the previous year. Last month, a raid in Glasgow saw six arrested after immigration enforcement officers undertook visits to businesses across the city. Four men and two women were arrested for having no right to work in the UK and overstaying their visas. The individuals were of Indian, Iraqi, Colombian, Spanish and Portuguese nationalities. Businesses to be targeted in the sting included Malaga Tapas West End, Malaga Tapas Bearsden, The Malletsheugh, The Marmaris and Lamegos. The action forms part of a nationwide intensification which has seen illegal working visits increase by 48% and arrests spike by 51% across the UK. It comes alongside a ramp-up of operational activity to restore control of the immigration system, including the return of nearly 30,000 people with no right to be in the UK. Minister for Border Security and Asylum, Dame Angela Eagle, said: ' Illegal working simply will not be tolerated under this government. 'That's why we are intensifying our enforcement activity to target illegal workers and unscrupulous employers who undermine our border security. 'Under our Plan for Change, we are finally restoring order to our immigration system and ensuring the rules are respected and enforced.' Lynne Davidson, HM Inspector, Scotland ICE Team, said: 'There is no excuse for ignoring employment and immigration rules and those who do should be in no doubt that they will face the full consequences. 'Businesses have a legal requirement to carry out right to work checks on employees and we will continue to pursue unscrupulous employers and those who break immigration laws.' Ramping up illegal working enforcement activity forms a key part of the Home Office's drive to restore order to the immigration system under the UK Government 's Plan for Change. In many cases, individuals travelling to the UK illegally are sold a lie by smuggling gangs that they will be able to live and work freely in the UK, when in reality they often end up facing poor pay, inhumane working hours and squalid living conditions The UK Government is also introducing tough new laws to clamp down on illegal working by extending Right to Work checks on those hiring gig economy and zero-hours workers in sectors like construction, food delivery, beauty salons and courier services.

Young mum dies after passing out in hot tub and waking up to skin peeling off

Mum-of-one Gabriele Cristine Barreto de Freita, 24, died after she hit her head when jumping into a hot tub, knocking her out, only to find her skin peeling away when she woke up A young mum died with agonising third-degree burns after she fell asleep in a scalding hot tub and woke up to find her skin peeling off. Mum-of-one Gabriele Cristine Barreto de Freitas, 24, had been at the motel in Curitiba, in the Brazilian state of Parana, with a man she had met at a party. When they got to the room, they turned on the hot tub and jumped in for a soak. But when her partner got out to go to bed, Gabriele stayed behind, apparently hitting her head and passing out, reports local media. She awoke with the water still steaming and her skin gruesomely peeling away from severe burns. ‌ ‌ Harrowing images and video footage from an intensive care unit where she was rushed to on May 25 show her whole body covered in bandages. Some hard-to-look at images show hand-sized strips of skin hanging from her face. Gabriele's family said she seemed to be recovering, but just six days later, local media reported on 5th June, she suffered a massive cardiac arrest. Her sister, Jenifer Vaniele Barreto, explained: "They arrived at the motel and he turned on the tub to a hot temperature. "The two went to shower, took a bath and he left first and went to bed. He heard her fall and slip in the tub." She added: "We don't understand how Gabriele's death happened. No one gave us any answers, they just said she had a cardiac arrest and died, that's all." The police at the Curitiba Homicide Division have opened an investigation into the baffling death. The man she went with to the motel has not yet been interviewed by the police, according to local media reports. But the family's lawyer Valter Ribeiro Junior says they are demanding tests on the hot tub's thermostat to see if it was faulty. He said: "It is unacceptable that someone goes to a motel for leisure and leaves burnt to the point of dying days later. "If it happened to her, it's probably going to happen to other people. It is possible that the equipment is not up to date and may have caused these burns." Gabriele leaves behind a five-year-old son, now being cared for by her mother.
