Luke Littler beats James Wade to win first World Matchplay crown in Blackpool
Littler claimed a hard-fought 18-13 victory at the Winter Gardens to become the fifth player to win the PDC Triple Crown – Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson and Luke Humphries having also won World Championship, Matchplay and Premier League titles.
Wade was in his seventh Matchplay final 18 years on from his solitary success in 2007, which came six months after Littler was born.
Littler's scoring power in a high-quality contest proved decisive – he hit 17 180s to Wade's six in averaging 107 – and set a new tournament record of 64 maximums, beating Adrian Lewis' previous best of 56.
'It means absolutely everything,' Littler told Sky Sports after winning the last four legs to hold the Phil Taylor Trophy aloft.
'I idolise Phil, he's come here 16 times and won it. Now my name is on this trophy – and I can say I've completed the Triple Crown.
'Since I started on the Tour and got my Tour card I've always said to myself, 'as long as I win one of every major I'll be happy.'
'I've only got a few left to tick off and I'll definitely chase the majors I haven't won yet.'
Littler had to mount another comeback 24 hours after losing the first five legs of his semi-final to Northern Ireland's Josh Rock.
Wade stormed into a 5-0 lead but did not have a single dart at a double in the second mini-session as Littler levelled in style.
The 42-year-old left-hander produced an 11-darter in the next, but Littler responded by winning successive legs to lead for the first time at 7-6.
Wade managed to keep in touch, helped by a bull finish in the 19th leg, and fought back from a double break down to cut the gap to just one at 14-13.
But Littler pulled away and crossed the line in style with a 115 out shot (20-57-38), the biggest finish of the match.
'A little bit,' Littler said when asked if he had felt in control. 'Five-nil down once again, I said, 'I've been here before, what are you doing?'
'But I managed to pull it out of the bag and win the next five. I've shown I can come back from 5-0 or 7-3 down.
'I'm happy I can pull myself out of these scorelines, but I don't want to be 5-0 down again.
'James started to drop off a bit and I started to find my best darts.'
By winning the title 18-year-old Littler became the youngest ever champion in Matchplay history, six years younger than Wade when he lifted the title.

Thousands of fans are expected to descend on central London as celebrations for England's historic European Championships victory continue with an open-top bus procession on Tuesday. There will also be a trophy ceremony at the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of the palace, hosted by former England right-back Alex Scott. The free event is hosted by the FA, which has warned fans to plan their visit 'carefully' as they expect it to be very busy. Mark Bullingham, chief executive of the FA, said: 'We are so proud of all of the players, Sarina and the support team who have all been part of this incredible achievement. They have all worked unbelievably hard and we know the nation shares our pride. 'The victory celebration in London on Tuesday will give England fans an opportunity to celebrate with the players, and be part of history. 'We've had amazing support from our fans both in Switzerland and at home throughout the tournament, and we look forward to celebrating together and creating some lifelong memories.' The procession comes after celebrations on home soil began on Monday afternoon when the team landed at Southend Airport in Essex. Hundreds of fans waited patiently to catch a glimpse of Wiegman's side and the trophy, which captain Leah Williamson held up in front of jubilant crowds, before the squad made their way to Downing Street for a reception hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock. Number 10 was decorated for the occasion, with St George's flags draped over windows and bunting along the railings. Wiegman and some of her Lionesses spoke to the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer via video call from the garden of No 10. The Dutchwoman said 'hello Keir, nice to see you', adding 'it's lovely here'. On Monday night, the Government announced plans for priority access to grassroots football pitches for girls and women to be more than doubled. As part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport's proposals, prime time slots dedicated to women's and girls' teams at Government-funded facilities across England will be increased over the next five years to meet the expected increased demand after the Lionesses' dramatic win. The Prince of Wales was spotted in the stands in Basel on Sunday applauding with those around him, including Princess Charlotte, and royal celebrations could continue as a trip to Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle may be arranged for the team as plans for a reception in the autumn are being explored by royal aides, it is understood.

Alexander Isak CONVINCED by Liverpool offer
Liverpool bid for Isak is imminent Isak informed his employers he had no wish to sign a new contract and - in fact - would be seeking a move away this summer. The Sweden international is not on tour in Asia with Eddie Howe's side - instead staying behind to work on a slight thigh injury. His situation is expected to be resolved before the summer transfer window closes with transfer insider Lewis Steele maintaining that a bid is IMMINENT. 'The latest is, probably from the Newcastle end, is that Newcastle are ready for that first bid to come. They're fearing the first bid,' Steele told his YouTube audience. 'And I think that impact will come at some point this week or next week. It is the last week of July going into August this week. There's not long left of the transfer window, although there is more than enough time to get all this business done. 'And I do think that Liverpool will make a play at Isak now. I said that a few days ago.' "This one WILL end up happening" claims Steele A bid of £130m could be sufficient to bring the Geordies to the table - and then it will be all about presenting a compelling package to their No14. 'Do I think he will join? Well, it all depends on Newcastle, really,' says Steele. And the prospect of joining the title holders certainly appeals to Isak - with Steele believing that he's got his heart set on a move to Merseyside. 'But what we can say is Liverpool like him,' he says. 'Alexander Isak is growing in... let's just say he's desperate for the move to Liverpool. He really, really wants it. 'So it all depends on Newcastle — whether they say, "Thank you very much, we'll take the money," or whether they continue to be... well, just stubborn really. You can't really blame them for being stubborn. He's their best player.'
