One Piece creator hints at Luffy's possible death – Could the pirate king fall?
As One Piece arrives at its final saga, fans here and abroad are looking to answer one unthinkable question—Will Monkey D. Luffy die before it's all over?
One Piece holds the records as the most popular anime and manga franchise of all time.
It's a fun, swashbuckling adventure story that centers on the quest of Luffy, an impetuous young pirate whose body is made of rubber, to realize his dream and become Pirate King. As the story heads toward its possible conclusion, the chips are stacking up towards a more sinister fate.
Recent developments in the manga—as well as some hints from creator Eiichiro Oda—indicate that Luffy's life will begin to end, the brutal consequences of all the battles on his body having finally caught up with him.
Luffy's body is breaking down
From Enies Lobby to Marineford and Wano, Luffy has gone above and beyond – even above the limits of a human being – over and over again. His aggressive haki-infused combat style, coupled with high risk abilities such as Gear Second, Third, Fourth and now Gear Fifth, has taken a physical toll on his body.
Here's how to unpack it LET'S GO.
Gear Second overheats his body and rapidly drains his stamina.
He paid the price of 5 years of his life for being poisoned by Magellan while in Impel Down.
He used life-risking hormone injections from Ivankov to continue fighting in the war.
Back in Wano, Kaido actually threatened Luffy with death for trying to push himself back into Gear 5.
Oda has shown dozens of these red flags throughout One Piece's extensive story, and eager fans are just starting to make these posthumous connections.

Luffy's lifespan may already be running out
When Luffy goes into Gear 5, his body takes on a cartoonish elastic form full of expressive punch. He's literally transforming into the 'Warrior of Liberation.' This shift presents a clear danger. Even Kaido, one of the strongest and most intimidating villains in the series, knew that Luffy was doing everything he could to stay alive, to get up and keep fighting.
At one point, Kaido even remarked,
You're just going to end up killing yourself if you continue like this!
To which Luffy only had this to say:
'Really, what's the worst that could happen?' 'We're all just bones in the ground at the end anyway!
Happiness has never been an option.
It's pretty obvious that Luffy knows the dangers, but the quest for his mission is greater than life itself.
Will Oda really kill off Luffy in the end?
Most fans are convinced that Luffy will come out the other side of this story alive—and they have pretty compelling reasons to think that.
Here's the deal. Here's why this matters.
Chopper, the Straw Hat doctor, has a dream of curing every disease. Saving Luffy from death would allow Chopper's goal to be fulfilled in perhaps the best possible way.
Whether or not Oda is planning adjournment to One Piece's end with an enormous celebration – an event that wouldn't feel justified without Luffy there to share in it – he has repeatedly stated his desire to have ONE PIECE come to a close.
In interviews over the years, Oda stated that the last panel of the manga is already decided and it's not one of sadness.
So even though Luffy's health is obviously no joking matter, we can at least carry the comfort of believing his story can still reach a brighter conclusion.
When is the next One Piece chapter releasing?
One Piece Chapter 1152 will officially be available for international readers on Sunday, June 22, 2025 through Manga Plus and Viz Media. In Japan, the chapter will be released on Monday, June 23 at 12AM JST.
With each chapter in the Final Saga, the stakes continue to grow. Luffy's fate might very well be up in the air and audiences around the globe are waiting with bated breath to see.
The concept of Luffy dying at One Piece's conclusion was a thing fans never could've seen coming years ago.
Yet as this series reaches its inevitable last chapter, the stakes have never been higher.
Will Luffy actually make it to Pirate King, and get to witness the changing world? Or will he meet the same end as the previous Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, who was executed before his vision came to fruition?
Whatever the answer, Eiichiro Oda has certainly taken One Piece into emotional territory like never before and fans from the US, UK, and all corners of the globe won't want to miss what comes next.
Luffy's strength, courage and heart have been the foundation of One Piece for more than two decades. Yet now, with death lurking around the corner, we are all painfully aware of what this story—and this character—has meant to millions.
Stay tuned, because One Piece's conclusion is shaping up to be anime's most heart-wrenching finale ever.

Priyanka Chopra REPLACED Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in THIS Sanjay Leela Bhansali film; Now rumoured to return in 'Love and War'
Amidst mounting speculation over Priyanka Chopra allegedly joining the cast of Sanjay Leela Bhansali 's much-anticipated film 'Love and War', reports seem to indicate that the actress could just make her return in another hit dance sequence. According to Bollywood Hungama, Priyanka's rumoured casting in Bhansali's upcoming film comes over a decade after she took over centre stage for a song sequence in 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela' back in 2013. At the time, the actress stepped in for the dance number in the Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone starrer only after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan , who was originally set to perform in the song, exited at the last minute. Buzz About Love and War The song, 'Ram Chahe Leela,' went on to become a chartbuster. Now, with Bhansali deep into pre-production for 'Love and War', featuring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor , and Vicky Kaushal , rumours have emerged that Chopra might return for a special number in the film. However, the new report appears to have dismissed those claims. 'No, Priyanka is not doing anything in Love & War,' the source claimed. How Priyanka Landed ' Ram Chahe Leela ' Interestingly, back in 2013, Priyanka's casting in the film generated a lot of buzz. At the time, Aishwarya had reportedly agreed to return to the screen after a two-year hiatus with the 'Ram Leela' dance number, marking what would have been her fourth collaboration with Bhansali. Reports from the Times of India at the time suggested the filmmaker was determined to cast Aishwarya, even as producers leaned toward Priyanka. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo In the end, Aishwarya backed out, opening the door for Priyanka's now-iconic performance. When Priyanka Denied Casting For Dance Number At the time, Priyanka, speaking to PTI, denied doing any song for Bhansali. She rubbished the reports saying, "It is an upsetting thing. Media reports keep coming about some actor doing this film or being replaced kind of stories... It's wrong... when you don't have clarity, then do not write it... by doing all these kind of stories, you give publicity to someone not needed." While her casting in the film still awaits confirmation, 'Love and War' has been generating a lot of buzz for another possible casting of Deepika Padukone in a prominent role. 'Love and War' is slated for a 2026 release.

Meet ‘Modern Family' star Eric Stonestreet's fiancée Lindsay Schweitzer
When we think of Eric Stonestreet , most of us picture Cameron Tucker from Modern Family: dramatic, hilarious, and heartbreakingly real. Away from the camera, he's found a perfect balance with Lindsay Schweitzer, his down‑to‑earth fiancée and lifelong partner in Kansas City adventure. They first crossed paths in 2016 at the Big Slick charity weekend in Kansas City, an event hosted by Eric alongside Hollywood pals like Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis. Lindsay was there as a paediatric nurse, and according to reports, Eric was touching the heart of a patient she'd cared for. She was instantly impressed: 'hearing him bond with that boy… it was pretty awesome.' Their friendship turned into something more when Eric DM'd her on social media to ask about the child. That message? That was the spark. They dived into a relationship that, despite the Hollywood‑to‑Midwest divide, grew stronger over years via texts, visits, and shared values. They began dating in 2016 and spent a couple of years doing long-distance: Lindsay commuting between Kansas City and L.A. while Eric was tied up filming Modern Family. But once the show wrapped and the pandemic hit, Eric packed his bags, moved back to the Midwest, and reunited with Lindsay permanently in 2020. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Simple Morning Habit for a Flatter Belly After 50! Lulutox Undo On August 22, 2021, Eric popped the question, and true to form, it came with a touch of trickery. Knowing Lindsay expected pranks, he convinced her they were shooting a test video for a possible social media campaign. With cameras rolling (and her twin nine-year-olds delivering their lines), Eric interrupted mid‑shoot and asked Lindsay to marry him. She responded with, 'Is this all a joke?' before saying yes, captured on camera, emotional, hilarious, and so perfectly their style. When is the couple marrying? Instead of diving into wedding plans, they opted to build a house together first, and make that home the venue for their future ceremony. Why not combine a wedding with housewarming? That's the plan: a backyard party in Kansas City with all their friends and Modern Family co-stars invited, he told PEOPLE. Eric jokes that he's loved everything about checking on progress, making decisions (paint colours and all), and idling around on the property mowing grass or scouting with his UTV. One of the sweetest parts of their life is Lindsay's twin boys, from a previous relationship, who Eric says are absolutely integral to their family unit. They even helped set up the proposal. Family time looks like backyard grilling (Eric's favourite), early breakfasts, evenings playing Wheel of Fortune, and bouncing ideas off each other for life and home. They prefer real, low‑flash living: staying in the Midwest, focusing on family, cooking, walking, and a shared sense of humour. Eric referred to his fiancée as someone who 'allows me to be humorous' and 'calms me' and he's clear she's not in show business, and that's precisely what he loves about her. Why this couple feels so real There's no Hollywood showmanship here, just a pair who value authenticity, soft humour, and real partnership. As Eric recently reflected, Lindsay isn't just a fiancée, she's his teammate in building a life. Whether it's building a house, navigating family dynamics, or being featured in goofy Instagram posts, their story feels refreshingly grounded in shared values, genuine partnership, and the kind of everyday love that Modern Family fans secretly root for.
