Health and Safety Alert as Kuwait to Get Dusty

KUWAIT CITY, Jun 3: Strong northwesterly winds have been sweeping across the country since early Tuesday morning, triggering widespread dust storms and severely reducing visibility, according to the Director of the Meteorology Department, Dharar Al-Ali. Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Ali reported that wind speeds have exceeded 60 kilometers per hour at times, particularly in open areas. These powerful gusts have stirred up dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility to less than 1,000 meters, and in some places, even to near zero. 'These active winds have also caused significant sand drift and accumulation on roads,' he said, warning motorists to exercise caution. 'Wave heights have risen above six feet along coastal areas.' The unsettled weather is expected to persist through Wednesday, with intermittent dust storms continuing throughout the day. However, a gradual easing of wind speeds is forecast to begin Thursday afternoon as a surface low-pressure system, accompanied by a hot, dry air mass, moves across the region. Daytime conditions over the coming days are expected to remain hot and dusty, while nighttime weather will be hot to warm, with dust levels anticipated to gradually decrease. According to Al-Ali, maximum daytime temperatures are expected to range between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows are anticipated to hover between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius. He advised residents, especially those with asthma or allergies, to wear protective masks when venturing outdoors. Beachgoers are cautioned about wave heights reaching up to 7 feet, and highway drivers are urged to remain vigilant due to the risk of sudden drops in visibility. Stay tuned for updates as the Meteorology Department continues to monitor weather developments.
