AP govt to celebrate first anniversary on a grand scale
Vijayawada: The TDP-led NDA government is set to celebrate its first anniversary on a grand scale on Thursday. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan, ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, officials and a large number of people will participate in the first anniversary programme to be organised in Amaravati. The NDA government assumed charge on June 12, 2024. The government will use the celebratory function as a key platform to showcase its achievements over the past one year.
It will also be used to communicate the government's vision and strategic objectives for the next four years, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive development and good governance. In the first anniversary programme, the coalition government is going to highlight its achievements, including distribution of Rs 2,720 crore every month towards pensions to 64 lakh people. The government also issued DSC notification to fill 16,347 teacher posts and conducted tests. Under the Deepam scheme, the state government has been giving three gas cylinders to women free of cost by spending Rs 2,684 crore.
The state government, as per its promise, repaired roads at a length of 20,000 km at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore. Coming to the welfare of fishermen, the government allotted Rs 259 crore and distributed Rs 20,000 each during the fishing holiday period. Besides, 203 Anna Canteens were set up and 61 more will come up soon.

Distribution of textbooks begins in govt schools
Eluru: The coalition government has initiated reforms to improve the school education system, said Housing, Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy. The minister distributed textbooks to students at Edara High School in Agiripalli mandal on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the education department has made arrangements to distribute kits with nine types of items under the name of Sarvepalli Radhakrishna Vidyarthi Mitra on the day of the opening of schools. Similarly, midday meals with fine variety rice will be provided to students. He said that due to this, 1,17,598 students studying in 1,768 government schools and 19,993 students in 132 hostels in the district will benefit. The government has prepared 6,73,00 textbooks, 7,62,338 notebooks etc to be supplied to students in the district. He said that the government is giving top priority to the education sector. As part of this, steps have been taken to fill 1035 teacher posts in the district through the DSC. Several education department officials, local public representatives, coalition leaders, and others participated in the programme. Participating in various development programmes in Agiripalli mandal, Parthasarathy said that many successes have been achieved in the first year of his rule. He laid the foundation stone for the Yadava Community Hall to be built with MPLADS funds of Rs 30 lakh at Nekkalam Gollagudem in Agiripalli mandal, and for the development work of the road from Eedara to Sobanapuram with NABARD funds of Rs 1.5 crore. He said that the development of roads has been given top priority during the rule of the coalition government across the state. He said that construction of roads and drains has been undertaken under the ZP in Nuzvid constituency with Rs 3.55 crore. The Roads & Buildings department has allocated Rs 30 crore on filling potholes apart from Rs 5 crore for the construction of Panchayat Raj roads. As part of welfare, pensions are being given in a large amount that has never been seen anywhere else in the country. He said that Rs 170 crore of NTR Bharosa pension was distributed in the Nuzvid constituency in a year. He said that the government deserves credit for reviving 204 Anna canteens across the state and satisfying the hunger of the poor. He said that from today onwards, the state government is implementing 'Talliki Vandanam'. He said that as part of the filling teacher posts, a Mega DSC has been announced with 16,347 posts and examinations are also being conducted. Many officials, dignitaries, and local public representatives were present at the event.

Trump blocks California EV rules in latest move to rein in the State
President Donald Trump signed joint resolutions of Congress on Thursday that block California's effort to phase out gasoline-powered vehicles, his latest attempt to reduce the power of the nation's most populous state. The Republican-led Congress passed the resolutions in May to reverse the Biden administration's approval of California's electric vehicle efforts. When signed by the president, joint resolutions revoking federal rules carry the force of law and are not subject to judicial review. Even so, the move drew an immediate legal challenge from California, as well as an executive order from Gov. Gavin Newsom directing state officials to find another path that would move the state's drivers toward electric vehicles and encourage companies to make them. On Thursday, Trump took aim at California's long-standing authority under the federal Clean Air Act of 1970 to set pollution standards for the state that are stricter than federal limits, and at Newsom's ambition to fight climate change with an aggressive transition to electric vehicles. Trump's action reversed a Biden administration decision that allowed the state to require that electric vehicles make up a progressively larger share of new vehicles sold in California until 2035, when the state would ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars entirely. Trump called the California plan a "disaster" and said it "would effectively abolish the internal combustion engine, which most people prefer." Anticipating the president's action, California leaders responded Thursday with a two-part plan. Rob Bonta, the state attorney general, filed a lawsuit asking a federal judge to overturn the resolutions. And Newsom directed his administration to develop new rules that encourage the use of electric vehicles and reward car manufacturers who agree to follow California's plan to phase out gasoline-powered vehicles. "Trump's all-out assault on California continues, and this time he's destroying our clean air and America's global competitiveness in the process," Newsom said in a statement. The resolutions Trump signed Thursday also revoke waivers for two other California clean-air policies. One blocks California from requiring that half of all new trucks sold in the state be electric by 2035. Another stops the state from putting limits on allowable emissions of nitrogen oxide from cars and trucks.
