Indian Army officer Major Rajprasad RS receives NSG Counter IED Innovator award
The award was given to the officer during the National Security Guard Seminar on Wednesday held in Delhi for two of his innovations -- 'Agniastra- Multi Target Portable Remote Detonation System' and 'Shatrunash- Handlheld EMP Gun.'
Three innovations developed by Major Ramprasad have already been inducted in the Indian Army.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, was appointed as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy). Ghai will continue to hold the post of DGMO.
The Deputy Chief (Strategy) is a relatively new vertical created to oversee the Indian Army's Operations and Intelligence Directorates, among other important branches. It is considered one of the most crucial appointments within the Indian Army, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence.
On June 4, Lt Gen Ghai was also awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM) during the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2025 (Phase-II), recognising his distinguished service.
Earlier this year, Lt Gen Ghai had also visited Manipur around February 25 to assess the security situation in the state, especially along the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB). During his visit, he held meetings with key state officials, including the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the State Security Advisor, the Chief Secretary, and the Director General of Police. The visit to the conflict-marred region aimed to review the operational preparedness of the Indian Army and assess the status of ongoing border infrastructure projects.
In a press briefing on May 12, a couple of days after the cessation of hostilities was announced with Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, Lt Gen Ghai underlined the preparedness and coordinated response of the Indian armed forces. The operation involved precision strikes against terrorist targets without crossing the Line of Control or the International Boundary. Interestingly, the now Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) had used a cricket analogy, 'Ashes to Ashes', to describe how India employed its multi-layered air defence systems to neutralise incoming aerial threats from Pakistan.
Lt Gen Ghai, a senior officer from the Kumaon Regiment, has held several key operational roles in his military career. As the GOC of the Chinar Corps before becoming DGMO, he was at the forefront of counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
On October 25, last year, Lt Gen Ghai assumed his role as DGMO. (ANI)

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar encouraged Russian companies to engage "more intensively" with their Indian counterparts despite the US imposing a 50% tariff on India for buying Russian oil. Jaishankar noted India's rapidly growing economy and initiatives like 'Make in India' that have opened up new windows for foreign businesses. He said that these dimensions represent an invitation for Russian companies to engage more. "An India with a GDP of USD 4 trillion plus growing at 7% for the foreseeable future has an obvious need for large resources from dependable sources. In some cases, it could be assured supplies of essential products, fertiliser, chemicals, and machinery, being good examples. Its rapidly growing infrastructure offers business openings to enterprises with an established track record in their own country," Jaishankar was quoted by news agency ANI as saying. 'The 'Make in India' and other such initiatives have opened up new windows for foreign businesses. The modernisation and the urbanisation of India generate their own demands, flowing from shifts in consumption and lifestyle,' the minister said. "Each of these dimensions represent an invitation for Russian companies to engage more intensively with their Indian counterparts. Our endeavour is to encourage them to rise to that challenge," he added. Mentioning that India and Russia have nurtured one of the steadiest relationships between major nations, Jaishankar pushed for more "strenuous efforts" to diversify and balance trade between both nations. 'India and Russia have nurtured one of the steadiest relationships between major nations in current times is now widely recognised. However, that did not automatically translate into significant economic cooperation,' Jaishakar said. "Our trade basket remains limited and till recently, so did our trade volume. It may have grown in recent years, but then, so too has the trade deficit. Both the diversification and balancing of trade now urgently mandate more strenuous efforts on our part. At the end of the day, they are essential not just to reach higher trade targets but even to sustain the existing levels," he said. Jaishankar pushed for deeper cooperation to promote growth and accelerate development and expressed India's willingness to contemplate more investments, joint ventures and other forms of collaboration. 'It is reasonably evident that there is much that India and Russia can do for each other in promoting growth and accelerating development. What we seek to do as Governments is to provide the guidance and create conditions for economic activities to take place,' he said. "Clearly much centres around trade but there is growing willingness to contemplate more investments, joint ventures and other forms of collaboration. First DPM Manturov and I are here amongst you to encourage those processes. We want to send a clear message that an enduring strategic partnership must have a strong and sustainable economic component." he said. Further speaking about India signing Terms of Reference (ToR) for the India-Eurasian Economic Union on a Free Trade Agreement, Jaishankar said," We have today concluded the Terms of Reference for the India-Eurasian Economic Union FTA. That will surely make a difference when concluded." 'We spoke about motivating joint ventures in key areas where the demand is already established. Some initiatives of significant investment levels were also spoken about. Our skilling and mobility endeavours have started to take off. The desire to improve connectivity is also expressed through multiple options,' he said. "But in the final analysis, what we really need is for businesses to step forward confidently. Not just that, also ensure that there is a close collaboration between what Governments are discussing and businesses are planning," he added. Jaishankar positive push to increase trade with Russia comes after US levied an ad valorem duty of 25 per cent on Indian goods, but has announced an additional 25 per cent tariff that will take effect from August 27, raising the total duty to 50 per cent.

Russia: Oil supply to go on, 'special system' to deal with sanctions
Photo/ANI NEW DELHI: As external affairs minister S Jaishankar visited Moscow Wednesday for bilateral talks on trade and economic issues, Russian diplomats here defended energy ties with India and expressed confidence that both countries would handle challenges arising out of the US sanctions against India that they described as unjustified and extremely unfortunate. "It is a challenging situation for India. We enjoy trust in our partnership with India and are committed to addressing challenges in our energy ties," said Babushkin, adding Russia has a "special mechanism" to deal with any challenge on the sanction issue. Bloomberg quoted the Russian deputy trade representative here as saying that Moscow sells oil to India at about a 5% discount.
