Empty out the Congress, Chandrashekhar Bawankule tells partymen
Bawankule, while addressing party leaders and workers in Pune, tried to reassure them that they would not suffer when leaders from other parties joined, as 'loyalists' would get preference in election tickets. Congress leader and former Bhor MLA Sangram Thopate recently joined the BJP, leading to unrest within the local party unit. Local leaders had opposed the induction.
'There is nothing left in the Congress, nobody is heading to Sharad Pawar's party and everybody has forgotten Uddhav Thackeray. If they are not able to handle their parties, what can we do?' said Bawankule.
The Congress' Maharashtra unit chief Harshvardhan Sakpal counter-attacked the BJP. 'The ruling party is a witch that swallows Congress leaders and workers, as it knows that it needs them to win the elections despite having prime minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis,' he said. 'This is the reason they are conspiring to split the Congress.'
Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad said that emptying out the Congress was not as easy as playing in a casino in Macau. 'The Congress is an ideology,' she said. 'The BJP had dreamed of making India Congress-free but it was reduced to 240 seats in the Lok Sabha elections after its tall claim of winning 400-plus seats. Power has gone to Bawankule's head.'
Reacting on Monday to the counter-attack by the Congress, Bawankule said, 'Party loyalists like Sangram Thopate are joining us on their own, as they have lost faith in the Congress leadership. They have realised that Rahul Gandhi cannot do anything for the party and cannot lead the country to development. There is no need for us to empty out the Congress; its members are coming to us on their own.'

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched a scathing attack on the Telangana government on Monday, questioning alleged special exemptions granted to AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi's family and condemning alleged threats against media houses. Speaking to reporters in Jagtial district after inaugurating Central development projects, the Union minister alleged double standards and demanded a clarification from the Congress-led Revanth Reddy government in Telangana. Bandi Sanjay specifically questioned the Hyderabad Development Authority (HYDRA), stating, "Are the HYDRA authorities demolishing the houses of the poor in the name of encroachments, but giving exemptions to Akbaruddin Owaisi's family, who have built buildings in lakes and ponds and are running colleges and businesses there?" He cited claims by HYDRA that they cannot demolish illegal constructions at Mr Owaisi's college due to the presence of 10,000 students, contrasting this with the demolition of "small houses and huts built by poor people in the Musi river catchment areas, who have no source of livelihood or shelter". "Do only the lives of Akbaruddin Owaisi's family have value? Don't the lives of poor people matter? Are they not human?" the minister asked, accusing the government of turning a blind eye to alleged transgressions by AIMMIM leaders, including non-payment of electricity bills and encroachment. The Union Minister also strongly criticised the alleged preparations by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders to attack the offices of Andhra Jyothi and other news outlets for publishing critical stories. "When media houses are being attacked, what is the chief minister doing? What is the government doing?" he demanded. Reminding Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of the time he was jailed, Mr Sanjay asked, "Weren't you jailed unjustly and denied bail? Have you forgotten all that and now joined hands with them (the BRS)?" The BJP, he said, would "always stand at the forefront in protecting democracy and press freedom". Daring BRS leaders, he added, "Attack the media houses and see what happens. Within two hours of your attack, our BJYM (BJP youth wing) activists will take care of your BRS office and the TV channel in it. Telangana is no longer BRS' fiefdom."

Bengal man facing Assam NRC heat shows parents' vote proof
1 2 Jalpaiguri: Cooch Behar resident Uttam Kumar Brajabashi, who received an NRC notice from the Assam govt asking him to prove his Indian citizenship by July 15 or face deportation, produced documents on Monday which showed that his parents, Narendranath Brajabashi and Sabitri, were voters in Dinhata. In Jan, 50-year-old Brajabashi received a notice from Assam govt accusing him of being an illegal immigrant who entered India through the Bangladesh border between 1966 and 1971. The notice claimed Brajabashi was unable to present required documents during police verification. North Bengal development minister Udayan Guha, who has stepped in to help Brajabashi, said on Monday: "Brajabashi was born in 1975. Surprisingly, the Assam govt asked for his documents from 1966 to 1971. We have asked him to not pay heed to the notice. We will stand by him and provide him support." Trinamool Congress, in a statement, said: "The BJP-governed Assam govt has now sent an NRC notice to Uttam Kumar Brajabashi, a man who has never even visited Assam. He possesses documents showing that his father's name was included in the 1966 electoral roll. How does Assam govt send such an undemocratic notice to one of our Rajbanshi brothers."
