The development of the players in the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver stable certainly benefits the growth of their offense, but certain pieces are in jeopardy of being left on the outskirts on the road to training camp. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Super Bowl LIX showed the Kansas City Chiefs needed major improvements to their receiving room. Days away from the team's start at mandatory minicamp and offseason activities shifting into another gear, the team has mostly opted for development in-house. Advertisement There's some level of risk there though the top two pieces in Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy have proven a great deal early in their careers. The Chiefs will count on their growth while veteran Hollywood Brown presumably slides into the No. 3 spot after an injury-riddled debut campaign with the team last season. Factor in the return of JuJu Smith-Schuster to the lineup and the addition of rookie Jalen Royals and suddenly the receivers room looks pretty crowded. Considering the bigger picture of pass catchers in this offense, future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce cannot be forgotten either. Unfortunately, that brings the future of fourth-year Skyy Moore into question. Moore did not post more than 250 yards in his first two seasons with the team and missed the majority of 2024 due to injury. He did not register a catch in the six games he played. While the Chiefs appreciate the tools Moore brings to the table it would appear he faces an uphill battle to make the team outright per Charles Goldman of A-to-Z Sports. Advertisement 'The coaching staff has shown that they like Skyy Moore's ability to plug in at every wide receiver position,' Goldman said. 'He'll get opportunities during offseason workouts and training camp, but make no mistake that he's on a short leash.' He also noted that another injury could be a serious detriment for his roster chances. The Chiefs are far away from making these final decisions, so Moore has time to make ground and maybe change some minds on the coaching staff. But the brutally honest reality of this situation has made it clear that Moore's spot on the roster could be in jeopardy. Related: 'Keeping Up With Taylor Swift' Serving As Travis Kelce Motivation? The Kansas City Chiefs nearly completed a three-year run atop the NFL, but despite falling short their front office continues to operate like a well-oiled machine. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs were already on an incredible run before the last three seasons and their multiple return to the Super Bowl. A once budding dynasty has evolved into one of the most polarizing franchises in all of professional sports. Advertisement Admittedly, that may have to do with Taylor Swift entering the fold two seasons ago and the evolving celebrity of Patrick Mahomes' and Travis Kelce's families. But strictly on the gridiron, the Chiefs have become a force that no other AFC team can get past when it matters most. Internet trolls and bitter rival fans make the case that their luck has won out. Even when entertaining a silly idea, any "luck" comes from competent and calculated leadership. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has nailed both pieces down. In an ever-changing league, Veach and the Chiefs are resilient in their operation year after year. Head coach Andy Reid also has a hand in this excellence which is why NBC Sports' Patrick Daugherty ranked the two as the league's No. 2 general manger(s). "The NFL's salary cap system punishes greatness, and you either need to be ruthless like the Patriots of yore or ruthlessly opportunistic like Howie Roseman's Eagles to sustain a sovereignty. Andy Reid and Brett Veach have mostly succeeded on both fronts." Advertisement Daugherty notes that this balancing act proved too difficult when they went up against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. However, just as they showed after losing Super Bowl LV, they are adept at learning from their mistakes. "They have played contract hardball when necessary ([Chris] Jones, Tyreek Hill) and kept churning on their problem spots until solutions presented themselves (Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy)." Some may still be sour on the Chiefs' prospects for 2025 after their lasting impression from February. But if the last decade of Kansas City football has proven anything, they will not be so easy to get rid of. And for that reason, both Veach and Reid as architects in their own way deserve a load of credit. However, they will be running things back with much of the same core from last season. Advertisement That barely beat their top AFC contender in the Buffalo Bills and, again, was no match for the Eagles. If the goal is just to make the postseason and win the division, Kansas City should be well equipped to repeat that feat. But everyone involved knows the ultimate goal is the Super Bowl. Anything less, fair or not, will be considered a failure. Chiefs Minicamp Storyline Focused On One Key Position

Chiefs Minicamp Storyline Focused On One Key Position originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs' biggest roster question all offseason has centered around one key position, so it is natural that the main storyline to follow in the coming days is how things unfold. Advertisement Of course, we are talking about the offensive line, and in particular, the left tackle position, which, as of now, has two candidates to win the job. Free agent signing Jaylon Moore and first-round draft pick Josh Simmons. Given Moore signed a two-year deal this offseason at $30 million, and Simmons is coming off a knee injury that ended his final college season early, it is easy to envision Jaylon getting first crack to be Patrick Mahomes' blindside protector. For CBS Sports, the Chiefs' biggest storyline as mini-camp comes into view is who will win the starting left tackle job. "The Chiefs' issues along the offensive line were utterly apparent in their loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX," CBS Sports writes. "This offseason, they went out and addressed the problem at left tackle. First, Kansas City signed Jaylon Moore to a two-year, $30 million contract, and then selected Josh Simmons in the first round out of Ohio State. Advertisement "Those two should begin duking it out be Patrick Mahomes' blindside tackle, and their reps throughout minicamp will give us a barometer of who may have the inside track as we head towards the summer hiatus." Raiders DT Adam Butler (69) sacks Patrick MahomesDenny Medley-Imagn Images Moore should be the one who gets the majority of the reps during mini-camp with Simmons still rehabbing his knee, so the four-year backup is going to get a major leg up on the rookie. But once training camp rolls around, Simmons "should" be medically ready to go, then the real battle can commence this offseason. Of course, the Chiefs would ideally like Simmons to usurp Moore as the starter, but that is going to take time as the former Ohio State stud works his way back to full health. Advertisement So, of all the storylines to watch this offseason for Kansas City, as expected, the left tackle position is top of the list.
