ITV Emmerdale DI Roberts wife is rival soap legend, leaving fans floored

Daily Record24-04-2025

Emmerdale actress Isobel Middleton, famed for her role as DI Roberts, has left fans floored after realising she has tied the knot with a soap legend away from cameras. Isobel made her first appearance on Emmerdale earlier this year as its new village detective. She was tasked with discovering key information on Anthony Fox's disappearance. Fans will recall how abuser Fox was killed in January by his daughter Ruby Fox-Miligan, with things soon turning messy as other families have got involved in the cover up. Those including Caleb, Chas Dingle and Cain have all found themselves in hot water. DI Roberts ended up arresting Cain over Anthony Fox's disappearance but later released him when it was clear she didn't have enough evidence. Meanwhile, on the ITV soap this week DI Roberts made a sensational return to the village leaving Caleb shocked. Monday's episode, April 22, saw the detective informing Caleb and Ruby about a break-in at their depot. But the personal life of Isobel off-screen is what has captured the attention of many fans, reports Leicester Live . In real life, she is married to soap legend Jane Hazlegrove, famed for her role as Bernie Winter on Coronation Street. The pair have been together over two decades, marking 28 years together. Isobel and Jane tied the knot back in 2015. Jane opened up about their relationship previously when she appeared on Lorraine back in 2019. She gushed: 'She's sensational, a really beautiful woman. I am very obsessed.' Isobel has played several characters in Emmerdale over the years. She took on the role of Dr Lane in 2014, followed by a barrister role during Simon McManus' 2018 trial. And in 2020, she played Jean Rawson on the soap. Elsewhere in her career in 2002, she played Sadie Banks on BBC's EastEnders. And turning her hand to blockbusters, Isobel also appeared in 2009's Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Not leaving any of the soaps untouched, she also appeared in wife Jane's very own soap Coronation Street in 2022. Isobel played a feminist author, Persephone Braxton, who held a book launch in Roy's Rolls. Fans have been left with their jaws dropping after realising Isobel is married to Jane. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, alongside a photo of the couple, one person penned: As if Bernie from Coronation Street is married to the detective in Emmerdale!' Someone else chimed in: 'Wow I didn't know that.' A third shared their shock and proclaimed: 'How sweet! A gorgeous couple.' Love Island: Why Was This Contestant Axed Before The Show Had Even Started?

The countdown to the new series of Love Island is officially underway, with the 12th season of the show airing on Monday. After weeks of speculation, the Love Island cast was officially revealed this week. However, one contestant has reportedly been dumped from the villa before the show has even begun. Just one day after the cast announcement, it was revealed that Kyle Ashman had been axed from the show after he was arrested on suspicion of a machete attack before being released without charge. A spokesperson for ITV shared the news, writing in a statement that Ashman would not be taking part in the 12th season of the show. 'For personal reasons, Kyle will not be entering the Love Island Villa as planned,' the statement read. Kyle has also responded to the news himself. He said: 'I fully cooperated with this police investigation and made it very clear that I had no involvement in this incident. I am not a violent person and any suggestion otherwise is a mischaracterisation.' According to reports in The Sun, the incident took place in February when 'masked thugs stormed a wake in Stafford and hacked at a dad' who 'nearly lost his arm.' Additionally, someone else was glassed, one struck with a metal pole, and two people were run over by a car. Ashman was one of two suspects questioned about the incident. 'This was a horrific attack which could have been even worse,' a source told The Sun. 'Ashman may have signed up to one of the biggest shows on TV with this hanging over his head.' According to insiders, ITV were unaware of the incident until the publication raised it, and it was not flagged as part of the contestant checks. Now, the decision has been made to part ways with Ashman. Other confirmed contestants for series 12 of Love island include former fire breather Sophie Lee and personal trainer Aaron Buckett.
