Russell says Albon has more to pay after lobster dinner
George Russell says Alex Albon owes him because the tab for a lobster pasta dinner picked up by his friend and Formula One rival after the Monaco Grand Prix was not enough to make amends for the race.
Mercedes driver Russell finished 11th last Sunday with Albon ninth and Williams teammate Carlos Sainz 10th, the pair using strategy to defend their scoring positions on an afternoon without overtaking.
Russell, who had scored points in every round up to Monaco, said afterwards Albon would pay for dinner and the Thai obliged.
"He ordered the most expensive thing on the menu," Albon told reporters hungry for more detail at the Spanish Grand Prix.
"He did. It was the lobster pasta. Lobster pasta in Monaco is not cheap. On race weekends they bump up the prices everywhere."
Albon said he chose a carbonara, admittedly with wagyu beef, and Russell skipped dessert.
Asked whether it had been an expensive restaurant, Russell suggested Albon escaped lightly.
"Not expensive enough. So, the bill is definitely not even yet," he said.

The championship leader clocked a near flawless final lap of one minute and 11.546 seconds to beat Norris by 0.209 seconds as McLaren claimed a dominant one-two having also topped all three practice sessions. Four-time world champion Max Verstappen was third for Red Bull ahead of Mercedes' George Russell, seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari and Kimi Antonelli in the second Mercedes. Charles Leclerc was seventh in the second Ferrari ahead of Alpine's Pierre Gasly, Racing Bulls' impressive rookie Isack Hadjar and local hero two-time champion Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin. It was Piastri's fourth pole of the season and career as he seeks to extend his three-point lead ahead of Norris in the drivers' championship. After an early fast lap from Aston Martin's Lance Stroll in Q1, the big guns arrived in torrid heat with a track temperature of 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit), and the air at 29, punishing conditions for tyres on a high-degradation track. The session was briefly stalled when Alpine's Franco Colapinto stopped in the pitlane and, after a delay, forced others to undertake him leading to a frantic final two minutes. Yuki Tsunoda in the second Red Bull was eliminated in 20th and last place along with Colapinto, Williams' Carlos Sainz – his worst qualifying result at his home event – in 18th, Esteban Ocon of Haas and Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg. For Tsunoda, it was a major setback as he sought to solve Red Bull's dilemma in searching for a partner to push Verstappen. At the front, Piastri topped Verstappen and Norris. In Q2, McLaren's duo led the first runs ahead of Verstappen, Russell and a revived Hamilton before choosing not to take a second go as Hadjar shone, taking sixth and splitting the Ferraris. Out went Alex Albon of Williams, Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto, Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson, Stroll and Oliver Bearman in his Haas. The top 10 shootout began with Piastri lapping in 1:11.836 before Norris overhauled him by 0.017sec for provisional pole on the opening charge. Russell was third ahead of Leclerc, Verstappen and Hamilton before a late Alonso lap lifted him to fifth amid roaring appreciation. Cloud cover affected conditions for the second runs as both McLaren men fought for pole with the Australian prevailing. It was McLaren's first front row lockout in Spain since 1998.

Formula One leader Oscar Piastri was fastest in final Spanish Grand Prix practice on Saturday with McLaren teammate Lando Norris making it a dominant one-two at the top of the timesheets. Piastri's fastest time of 1:12.387 seconds completed a sweep of practice for the reigning champions and was a strong statement of intent for later qualifying. The Australian was also fastest in Friday's second session while Norris, winner in Monaco last Sunday, set the pace in the first. Norris, three points off the lead after eight of 24 races, was 0.526 slower than the Australian as McLaren shrugged off tighter front wing flex tests introduced at the Circuit de Catalunya. The Briton made a mistake on one quick lap that would otherwise have put him much closer to Piastri. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was third fastest, ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Red Bull's reigning champion Max Verstappen. Rookies Isack Hadjar and Kimi Antonelli were sixth and seventh for Racing Bulls and Mercedes respectively with local hero and double world champion Fernando Alonso eighth for Aston Martin but 1.027 slower than Piastri. Ferrari's seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton, winner a record-equalling six times in Spain but complaining on Friday that the car was 'not driveable', was ninth after another difficult session.
