Vancouver International Airport, one of the largest in Canada, was briefly closed following reports of a 'hijacking' involving a small aircraft, according to authorities.
Police stated they received a report at around 1:10 p.m. indicating that a Cessna 172 — a single-engine, four-seat aircraft — had been diverted from the Vancouver Island area and was approaching the airspace around Vancouver International Airport, located in western Canada.
According to Al-Nashra News, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) clarified in a statement:
'The suspect was the only person on board the plane and was apprehended without incident shortly after landing the aircraft, less than an hour later.'
As a result, nine incoming flights were diverted from Vancouver International Airport. In a statement, the airport confirmed that landing operations were halted for 39 minutes.

Ahmed 'Kouka' Hassan joins Saudi side Al-Ettifaq - Talents Abroad

Egyptian towering striker Ahmed "Kouka" Hassan has joined Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq on a free transfer, the club announced on Thursday. Although the deal's details were not disclosed, reports suggested that the 32-year-old forward signed a one-year contract. The move could potentially mark the end of his long European journey, following a brief stint with French Ligue 1 side Le Havre, where he made 16 appearances, scoring three goals and registering one assist. Kouka began his European career in 2011, joining Rio Ave's U-19 team from Egyptian giants Ahly, where he broke into the senior squad in 2012. In the summer of 2015, he left Rio Ave to sign for Portuguese side SC Braga. He then embarked on a temporary spell with Greek side Olympiacos, which became permanent in the 2020 season. The nomadic striker moved to Turkey in 2021 on loan to Konyaspor, before playing for Alanyaspor in 2022. He then joined Pendikspor on a free transfer in September 2023. In February 2024, Kouka returned to Alanyaspor after becoming a free agent. His stay was short-lived, as he rejoined Rio Ave in August 2024 on a one-year deal. However, he made another switch in January 2025, signing for Le Havre in a Bosman deal until the end of the season. Al-Ettifaq finished seventh in the 2024/25 Saudi Pro League season. Egypt following up on status of citizens aboard sunken boat off Libyan coast - Foreign Affairs

Egypt is closely following up with the Libyan authorities on the status of Egyptian nationals who were aboard a boat that sank off the coast of Tobruk, a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday. On Thursday, 18 migrants lost their lives when their boat sank off the coast of Tobruk, confirmed the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The foreign ministry stated that the Egyptian Consulate General in Benghazi dispatched a delegation to the city of Tobruk immediately upon receiving information regarding the incident. The consulated took procedures to transport the bodies of victims who were identified via photos by relatives to the border crossing between Egypt and Libya. The consulate is also coordinating with the Libyan side to complete the procedures for transferring other bodies once identified. Moreover, it is monitoring the conditions of several survivors in preparation for their repatriation once Libyan investigations are concluded. The foreign ministry urged all citizens to refrain from resorting to irregular migration routes due to the grave dangers they entail, as well as the risk of exploitation by human trafficking networks. "Egypt is committed to providing safe alternatives and lawful opportunities for youth, whether through training or qualification programmes or by expanding avenues for regular migration via official channels with partner countries," the ministry affirmed.
