Charlotte Councilmember asks the city to stop buying Teslas
Charlotte City Council is planning to buy 45 new electric vehicles when the new fiscal year starts in July. One Charlotte City Council member is asking the city manager not to purchase them from Tesla.
At-Large Democratic Councilmember Lawana Slack-Mayfield made the remarks at Monday night's council meeting.

'I want to publicly state that we have a number of EV companies out there now. I would prefer if the city of Charlotte moved in another direction than purchasing more Tesla vehicles,' Councilmember Mayfield said. 'It has been proven on multiple occasions that the instability exists, and I think we can make better choices of tax dollars and identify companies that align with our city's goals and expectations of truly being a welcoming city.'
No councilmembers responded to Mayfield's statement. The Charlotte City Council will have to vote to authorize the EV purchases at a later date.
Excluding the airport and CATS, the city of Charlotte has 178 electric vehicles in its fleet, and only 15 of them are Teslas. Of the 178 electric vehicles, 103 are Fords.
The budget also calls for purchasing 155 hybrid vehicles and converting more of the buses at the airport to electric.

Manhunt continues for Minnesota shooting suspect Vance Boelter
Around 24 hours after police say a gunman killed a Minnesota state lawmaker and her husband, plus wounded another lawmaker and his wife, suspect Vance Boelter remains on the run, authorities have said. The shootings began around 2 a.m. Saturday, when Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were both shot multiple times at their home in Champlin, Minnesota, authorities said. Soon after, State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed at their home in Brooklyn Park. Police encountered the gunman leaving Hortman's house at around 3:35 a.m., the officers heading there to check on the lawmaker after responding to the earlier shooting at Hoffman's home. The suspect exchanged gunfire with police and was able to escape and flee on foot, authorities said. The FBI is "using every available resource to locate Vance Boelter," FBI Minneapolis Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. said in a statement. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Boelter's arrest. The 57-year-old suspect is alleged to have gained access to the victim's homes while posing as a police officer. Police believe that when the shooter opened fire, he was wearing a latex mask that looked realistic, sources said. Boelter -- a husband and father, according to an online biography -- has touted an extensive background in security and military training, according to an ABC News review of his online presence and professional history. Boelter helped lead the private security firm Praetorian Guard Security Services, which is based in the Twin Cities area, according to the company website. Dozens of Minnesota Democrats were on a target list written by the gunman, according to law enforcement sources. Those on the list included Gov. Tim Walz, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, U.S. Sen. Tina Smith and state Attorney General Keith Ellison, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the matter. Police said the list -- which was retrieved from the suspect's vehicle, which looked like a police vehicle and had police lights -- also named Hortman and Hoffman. Both victims are Democrats and Hortman was formerly the Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives. The shooter's list of potential targets also included the names of abortion providers and pro-choice activists, several sources told ABC News. Many of the Democratic lawmakers on the list have been outspoken about pro-choice policy positions, two sources said.

If you include the $7,500 federal tax credit, the price drops to $87,440. That configuration comes with 20'' Cyber Wheels ($3,500) and White Décor ($2,000). Another Cyberbeast is priced at $91,790 with a $10,200 discount. It also comes with 20'' Cyber Wheels and White Décor. Add the $7,500 federal tax credit and the price drops to $84,290. The Cyberbeast comes standard with a tri-motor powertrain and other extras such as Premium Interior with Suede Textile Trim. It is rated at 301 miles of range. The price freefall comes against a backdrop of swelling new All-Wheel Drive (dual-motor) inventory on Tesla's Cybertruck page. That price includes 20'' Cyber Wheels ($3,500) and White Décor ($2,000). The Cyberbeast Foundation Series has fallen hard from its rarefied pricing of only a year ago. At that time, the Cyberbeast version of the Cybertruck was being flipped for more than $150,000. That market dynamic is now inverted. A tri-motor Cyberbeast Foundation Series with only 1,200 miles is selling for around $92,000 at a car dealership in Southern California as of Saturday June 14. Another used Cyberbeast with 16,027 miles has an asking price of $89,000. While another used Foundation Series Cyberbeast is selling for $89,620 with 9,974 miles. The Foundation Series comes with Full Self Driving standard, an $8,000 value, and Tesla Powershare vehicle-to-home back-up capability, among other extras. A new Cyberbeast sells for $99,990 on Tesla's Cybertruck website. Last year at this time it was priced at $119,990 direct from Tesla. Cars on average lose about 20% of their original value during the first year, according to Kelley Blue Book. But pricing of a virtually new (flipped) Cybertruck has lost as much as 40% of its value in a year. That's because the Cybertruck's used market value was inflated initially due to hype and high demand and meager supply. Overall, used Cybertruck prices have plummeted from a year ago when the average asking price for a used Cybertruck Foundation Series was over $130,000 (see charts). The wedge-shaped stainless steel pickup went on sale in late November of 2023. Tesla Cybertruck used market prices have come down more than 20% in the last six months. Tesla Cybertruck used market price has plummeted almost 40% year over year. Deliveries of the Cybertruck plummeted in the first quarter of this year—essentially cut in half—falling to 6,406 versus 12,991 in the fourth quarter of last year, according to Cox Automotive. Wife of Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman used her body as a ‘shield' to protect daughter during shooting: family
The wife of the wounded Minnesota state senator targeted during an overnight assassination attempt shielded the couple's daughter as the masked gunman opened fire on the family, missing the couple's vital organs by inches, family and reports said. Yvette Hoffman jumped on top of her adult daughter, Hope, while alleged assassin Vance Luther Boetler fired multiple shots at her and State Sen. John Hoffman inside their Minneapolis suburb home early Saturday morning, according to Hoffman's nephew. 'Early this morning, an absolute vile piece of s–t dressed as a cop broke into my aunt and uncle's house and shot him 6 times and my aunt 5 times in a political act of terrorism. My aunt threw herself on her daughter, using her body as a shield to save her life,' Mat Ollig wrote on Facebook.
