'Gyaan mat baato': Director Rahul Dholakia's harsh jibe at Aamir Khan's IPL commentary earns fans' ire, he deletes tweet

Hindustan Times3 days ago

The Indian Premier League 2025 came to a thrilling end on Tuesday night as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) to win their maiden title. The IPL final at Ahmedabad saw quite a lot of Bollywood presence, too. Preity Zinta, co-owner of PBKS, was present to cheer for her team, while Anushka Sharma cheered on for husband Virat Kohli's RCB. And in the commentary box, superstar Aamir Khan added some flavour while promoting his film Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir arrived at the stadium on Tuesday, sharing the commentary box with Suresh Raina and Aakash Chopra for a 20-minute stint in the Hindi commentary panel for the IPL 2025 final. Fans had mixed reactions to Aamir's commentary. Some praised his knowledge of the game, while others were miffed with him being partisan towards Virat Kohli and RCB. The actor praised Kohli for being a 'perfectionist', a tag that is often associated with Aamir himself. He also added that winning the IPL would be a great swansong for a legendary career like Kohli's.
Among those who were not fans of Aamir's commentary stint was Raees director Rahul Dholakia. The filmmaker took to Twitter (now called X) on Tuesday night and posted, "Yaar picture ka promotion karo gyaam mat baato (Promote your film but don't sermonise). I want KOHLI to win this year and Zinta to win next year! Both these passionate people deserve to win- for their sheer persistence!" While he did not name Aamir, the timing of the tweet had fans convinced it was for Aamir, who was in the commentary panel as part of promotions for his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par.
Aamir fans did not take kindly to the harsh jibe, calling Dholakia names in the responses. "This is such a cheap shot," read one tweet. Another wrote rather curtly, "Gyaan baato, isn't that what you and SRK did the entire Raees promotions?" Within hours, the tweet had hundreds of replies, many roasting Aamir and others criticising Rahul Dholakia. Later in the night, the filmmaker deleted the tweet.
Rahul Dholakia is a National Award-winning filmmaker known for Parzania, Mumbai Cutting, and Lamhaa. He had his biggest commercial success with the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees in 2017. Meanwhile, Aamir is returning to the big screen with RS Prasanna's Sitaare Zameen Par, his first film since the debacle of Laal Singh Chaddha three years ago. The film releases on 20 June.

Scott Boland in dark about his spot in Australia's playing XI for WTC final

London [UK], June 6 (ANI): Australia's seasoned quick Scott Boland is still in the dark about his potential appearance in the World Test Championship final against South Africa on Tuesday at the Lord's, a venue where he would 'love' to play. With match figures of 5/105, the 36-year-old was one of Australia's premier pacers when they lifted their maiden WTC mace at The Oval in 2023 against India. He boosted his credentials against India by scalping 21 wickets in three appearances as Australia celebrated its first Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph in a decade. Despite his exploits, Boland has found himself in a neck-to-neck battle with IPL-winning seamer Josh Hazlewood for one spot in the defending champions' pace setup against the Proteas. With less than a week left for the enticing contest, Boland has yet to receive the green light from the selectors about his spot in the playing XI. 'I haven't had any chats with them (selectors). My goal coming into the last two months is just to get myself and my body in the position where I can put my hand up and be ready to go if it (selection) goes my way,' Boland said in London on Thursday, as quoted from ICC. 'I probably felt like back into the Shield season (Australian domestic red-ball competition), my knee was sort of not wearing away but wasn't going how I wanted it to go and didn't feel like I was bowling how I wanted, but now I feel like I'm in a really good spot that I can bowl how I want to bowl. It's pulling up really well, so that's all I can do, and I just want to make that decision (for selectors) as hard as possible,' he added. Boland snuck his first training session with Australia on Wednesday while Hazlewood linked up with the team in London after his title-winning campaign with Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday. The 36-year-old is aware of the carnage that a fully fit Hazlewood can inflict on the opposition. However, he pushed his case by citing his recent stellar performances for Australia in the Test format. 'I feel like I had a couple of really strong games (during the Border-Gavaskar series), but Josh is obviously a world-class bowler. He's one of the best bowlers in the world, coming off a really good IPL, so I'm sure he'll be doing the same thing here (to push his case for selection). Obviously, we all want to play, but there's probably not room for all of us,' Boland said. If Boland earns a spot in Australia's playing XI, he will make his first appearance at the iconic Lord's. For him, it will be a 'pretty special' moment to bowl at the 'Home of Cricket'. 'I'd love to play at Lord's. I think everyone's looking forward to getting there for training in a few days' time and then getting to the game, as it's a pretty special place for cricket,' he added. (ANI)

Preity Zinta pens heartfelt note after PBKS lose IPL final to RCB: 'It didn't end the way we wanted it to'

After Punjab Kings' narrow defeat in the IPL 2025 final against Royal Challengers Bangalore, team co-owner Preity Zinta took to social media to share an emotional message, reflecting on a season full of highs and lows. Actor and PBKS owner Preity Zinta wrote on Instagram on June 6. "It didn't end the way we wanted it to but the journey was spectacular ! It was exciting, entertaining & it was inspiring. I loved the fight & the grit our young team, our shers showed through out the tournament. I loved the way our captain, our Sarpanch lead from the front & how Indian uncapped players dominated this IPL," she wrote. This year, Punjab Kings reached the IPL final for the first time in over a decade. Zinta described the season as 'unique', noting the team overcame multiple challenges — including injuries to key players, national call-ups, a pause in the tournament, and even having to relocate home games. 'This year was unique. We smashed records even though we lost key players to injury & national duty, witnessed a pause in the tournament, transferred home games to other states & evacuated a stadium ! We adapted & topped the points table after a decade & fought till the end in an exciting final,' she said. Zinta praised every player and thanked the support staff and fans for their unwavering belief. She wrote, 'I am so proud of each n every player of Punjab Kings for showing so much character throughout the tournament. A big thank you to each of them and to our support staff and everyone at PBKS for an incredible season. Most of all a HEARTFELT THANK YOU to our - SHER SQUAD - our FANS that stood with us through thick n thin.' Ending on a hopeful note, she promised a stronger comeback: 'Whatever we are & how far we have reached is all because of you. I promise we will come back to finish the job cuz as of now the job is still half done. See you next year in the stadium , till then take care n stay safe everyone. Love you all." Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinched their maiden IPL title with a narrow 6-run win over Punjab Kings in the final.
