CRPF canine hero Rolo, who lost her life during anti-Naxal op, awarded DG Commendation Disc posthumously
The CRPF Director General has paid tribute to Rolo by awarding her the DG's Commendation Disc posthumously.
New Delhi: The CRPF Friday bid a solemn farewell to sniffer dog Rolo, a member of the 228 Battalion, in Chhattisgarh's Sukma. The two-year-old Belgian Shepherd lost her life after being attacked by a swarm of bees during a major anti-Naxal operation in the Karegutta hills area, located along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border.
Constable Shubham Gajanan of the 228 Battalion, who was also Rolo's handler, told ANI that there is always an emotional connection between canine and handler. Describing what happened, he said Rolo had gone in to search an area that troops couldn't enter, which is when she came in contact with a swarm of bees. She was given first aid but passed away on the way to a medical facility.
He said Rolo had played a significant role in saving troops from IEDs during major operations, and even in the days before her death, did her duty with full alertness.
'When a canine warrior passes away, it feels like a soldier has passed away,' said Gajanan.

Maoist camp in Gariaband busted by security forces, 16L cash seized
Raipur: A huge cache of arms and explosives was recovered from the forests of Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh when a joint team inter-district police, CRPF and CoBRA had launched an anti-Naxal operation on Sunday. Cash worth Rs 16.5 lakh was seized from the site of encounter. The forces were combing the forests of village Gobra in Manpur region when a group of armed Maoists opened firing upon the security personnel and faced retaliation, said Raipur range inspector general of police Amresh Mishra. After brief exchange of fire, Maoists retreated into forests. Security personnel launched a search in the area and recovered a dump of arms and ammunition, that indicated Maoists were hatching a plan for an attack. The joint team of Dhamtari and Gariaband district police along with paramilitary forces collected the cache and brought it back to base at district headquarters, the official said. It's believed that Maoists sneak into dense forests of Gariaband which they use for rest, hiding weapons and a movement route from Chhattisgarh to bordering Odisha. IG Mishra said that the entire operation was carried out with strict coordination between state police and central forces. Officials said the seizure has dealt a serious blow to Maoist activities in Gariaband, and search operations are being further intensified in the region. Robbery suspect arrested after Israeli Police recover $280K in cash

Drive to clear 175 bighas of grazing land begins in Biswanath
1 2 Guwahati: An eviction drive began in Assam's Biswanath district on Sunday to clear 175 bighas of Village Grazing Land (VGR), which had been encroached by over 300 families, officials said. A senior official from the district administration said the land in question was located at Japariguri village in Biswanath, before adding that the drive has been proceeding peacefully, so far. The officer further said notices were served to the families on August 1 to vacate the areas within 15 days, which they have already done. Moreover, the officer mentioned that a few of the families dismantled their houses and took away the roof tin sheets along with their belongings. "The remaining houses have been demolished amid tight security deployment," the officer said, adding that about 600 police and CRPF personnel were deployed for the drive.
