ECoS pushes to Increase Energy Generation Capacity

Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid, accompanied by delegations from ECoS and Sabah Electricity, visited several existing power stations and energy development project sites located at the West Coast of Sabah. Kota Kinabalu: The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) has conducted comprehensive monitoring and evaluation of key energy projects in Sabah, aligning with the commission's efforts to strengthen the electricity supply system in Sabah. Datuk Ir. Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid, accompanied by delegations from ECoS and Sabah Electricity, visited several existing power stations and energy development project sites located at the West Coast of Sabah. Locations visited included the SPR Energy Power Plant, Kimanis Power Plant, Sabah Oil & Gas Terminal (SOGT), Tenom Pangi Hydro Station, and two new project sites in Kimanis. The purpose of these visits was to assess project progress, ensure compliance with safety and technical standards, and evaluate the operational efficiency of existing power plants that play a crucial role in the stability of Sabah's electricity supply. 'This close monitoring is vital to ensure all projects are on schedule and can increase generation capacity. Both of these new projects will contribute 200MW of energy to the grid upon completion,' said Nasser. He also emphasized that these efforts are part of the Sabah State Government's commitment to address electricity supply issues and strengthen the state's energy sector holistically, in line with the goals outlined in the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040).

Sarawak to establish State Energy Council by 2026: Abang Jo

He said the council will be formed after consultations with all relevant parties and will oversee the operations and strategies of energy sector players to ensure alignment with the state's development goals. 'We are fortunate to have the capacity to generate renewable energy and are already seeing strong global interest, especially in our hydroelectric power potential,' he said. He added that the incoming investments are expected to create high-quality jobs, and the state is preparing for this by offering free tertiary education to build a skilled workforce for the emerging green economy. STR phase 3 payments for 8.6 million recipients start August 12

PUTRAJAYA: The government will begin disbursing Phase Three of the Rahmah Cash Assistance (STR) payments tomorrow, allocating RM2 billion to ease the cost of living for low-income households. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister, stated that 8.6 million recipients will receive up to RM650 in aid under STR Phase Three. Advertisement This marks an increase of 300,000 recipients compared to the 8.3 million beneficiaries in Phase One last January. Anwar attributed the rise in STR recipients to the MADANI government's initiative to accept new applications and appeals year-round. 'The continuous application and appeal process reflects the MADANI government's commitment to ensuring no eligible individual is left out,' he said. 'Beyond cash aid, STR empowers recipients to achieve financial independence, aligning with the MADANI Economy's goal of equitable prosperity.' Ringgit strengthens against US dollar amid trade tensions

Kuala Lumpur: The ringgit opened stronger against the US dollar on Monday, recovering from two straight sessions of decline. Market analysts attributed the rebound to lingering concerns over US trade policies and their global economic impact. An analyst highlighted US President Donald Trump's proposed tariffs on semiconductors and pharmaceuticals as a key concern. 'These measures could disrupt international trade and dampen risk sentiment,' the analyst said. Investors are also monitoring tensions within the BRICS bloc and the fragile US-China trade truce. Bank Muamalat Malaysia's chief economist, Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid, expects the ringgit to trade between 4.24 and 4.25 against the dollar. Mixed signals from US Federal Reserve officials have supported the greenback, with the dollar index at 98.243 points. 'The ringgit's movement remains cautious ahead of the US CPI data release on Tuesday,' he said. July's inflation is forecast to rise to 2.8 per cent, while core inflation may hit 3.0 per cent. Malaysia's second-quarter GDP data, due this Friday, will also be a key focus. Advance estimates suggest 4.5 per cent growth, but slower industrial and services output may pose downside risks. The ringgit strengthened against major currencies at the opening. It rose against the yen to 2.8693/8796 from 2.8720/8763 on Friday. The local note also gained versus the euro at 4.9343/9517 and the pound at 5.6951/7153.
