Delhi CM Rekha Gupta participates in Jagannath Rath Yatra in Hauz Khas
While speaking to the reporters, the Delhi CM expressed gratitude for receiving the opportunity to participate in the Jagannath Rath Yatra. She mentioned that she prayed to Lord Jagannath that give his blessings to Delhi and the country.
'Being a 'sevak of the state of Delhi, today I was able to 'jhadu gohari' in front of Lord Jagannath's Rath Yatra and this Rath Yatra is being inaugurated by paying my respects to the Lord. We pray to Lord Jagannath that his blessings remain on Delhi and the country', Rekha Gupta told reporters.
The Delhi Police had issued a traffic advisory in view of the Jagannath Rath Yatra event.
As per the advisory, the traffic movement in Hauz Khas will be diverted or regulated between 2 pm to 6 pm on Aurobindo Marg and its adjoining stretches.
According to the advisory, the restricted stretches include the IIT Flyover to AIIMS Loop with possible congestion on the Outer Ring Road, Ring Road and August Kranti Marg.
'In view of the 47th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath on 27.06.2025 (Friday) from 02:00 PM to 06:00 PM in Hauz Khas, traffic movement will be regulated/diverted on Aurobindo Marg and adjoining stretches. Restricted stretches include IIT Flyover to AIIMS Loop, with possible congestion on Outer Ring Road, Ring Road and August Kranti Marg. Kindly follow the advisory and plan your commute accordingly', the advisory read.
Meanwhile, the ISCKON Dwarka is organising the biggest Rath Yatra after Jagannath Puri whose chariot has been designed with 108 types of mangoes. The ISKCON will conduct distribution of 11,000 kg mangoes.
The devotees can get the opportunity to pull the chariot by arriving at ISKCON Dwarka at 4 pm on Friday.
During the festival in Puri, devotees draw the grand chariots of the three deities -- Lord Jagannath, his brother Lord Balabhadra, and sister goddess Subhadra -- to the Gundicha Temple, where the deities reside for a week and then return to the Jagannath Temple. The Rath Yatra ceremony attracts a large crowd, making traffic management a key issue.
Earlier today, a large number of devotees gathered at the Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha, as the grand annual Rath Yatra festival began on Friday morning.
People from across the country arrived to witness the grand chariots of the three deities: Lord Jagannath, his brother Lord Balabhadra, and sister goddess Subhadra, at the Gundicha temple, where the deities reside for a week before returning to the Jagannath temple.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on the occasion of the Jagannath Rath Yatra on Friday. Taking to his official 'X' handle, PM Modi wished for everyone's 'happiness, prosperity, good fortune, and excellent health'.

Lawyers in PoGB continue strike, demand appointment of judges and legal reforms
Gilgit [PoGB] August 19 (ANI): Lawyers throughout Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan have maintained their extended strike, which commenced in November 2024, seeking judicial appointments, land reform, and restructuring of institutions. This protest has now reached its tenth month, disrupting legal processes and leaving countless litigants in Sher Alam, Vice President of the Supreme Appellate Court Bar and a member of the Diamer Bar Association, stated that the strike was originally initiated to advocate for the appointment of judges in the Supreme Appellate Court and Chief Court, the enforcement of the Land Reform Act, and the division of the offices of Advocate General and Prosecutor General. He noted that since 2011, the Supreme Appellate Court had determined that each lawyer would be granted one acre of land, yet the government has not acted on this, making it a crucial aspect of the lawyers' campaign as the Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan, the region's highest legal authority, has only a Chief Justice, with two other judicial positions vacant for years. Lawyers argue that this has resulted in over 11,000 cases remaining unresolved, including significant appeals where individuals have already completed their sentences but are still waiting for verdicts. 'The Supreme Appellate Court lacks the necessary quorum, and without three judges, achieving justice has become impossible. Urgent cases are accumulating, leaving litigants in despair," Sher Alam recalled that in November 2024, a delegation had presented their requests to the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, who issued orders for their resolution. However, none of the relevant departments carried out these directives, prompting bar councils and associations to escalate their demonstrations. They initially conducted strikes at the district level on August 11, 12, and 13 this year, before resolving to bring their protests to the Chief Minister's office starting August 18, warning that they would persist until their demands were ongoing strike has halted the judicial system in PoGB, leaving regular litigants without options. Sher Alam acknowledged that the lawyers are among those most affected, as many rely on daily earnings. 'The greatest impact has been on us, the lawyers, who depend on daily wages. New Delhi [India], August 19 (ANI): Stressing the critical importance of India's Northeast in the country's strategic and developmental roadmap, foreign policy experts on Monday underlined the need to strengthen connectivity, people-to-people ties and economic cooperation with Southeast Asian nations to unlock the region's full at the conference on 'Contributions and Potential of Northeast: Viksit Bharat @ 2047", former diplomat Suresh K Goel said the Northeast not only holds a 'critically important territory for India's security calculus" but also shares deep cultural and social resonances with neighbouring countries like Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and pointed out similarities in festivals and traditions across the borders, citing examples of Manipuri communities freely crossing into Myanmar for celebrations. 'Such cultural bonds are a huge resource for building trust and integration. Diversity is our strength, and we must convert it into economic and social opportunities," Goel the untapped potential of hydropower in the region, he said integrating India's Northeast power projects with those in Southeast Asia could create a 'massive energy corridor" stretching up to Odisha and beyond. 'Imagine the commercial opportunities if we link the Northeast with Indochina's resources," he added, while also flagging the slow pace of projects like the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral ambassador JK Tripathi, while echoing the need for deeper integration, said the lack of effective connectivity, even after decades, has hindered the Northeast's growth. He underlined that besides infrastructure, India must address perceptions and prejudices towards the Northeast within the mainland.'Unless we treat people from the region with respect and equality, no amount of infrastructure can create trust. Their culture is no less than ours. Integration requires sensitivity, not just highways," Tripathi experts called for renewed focus on cultural diplomacy, soft power and building cross-border dependencies to bring long-term stability and prosperity to the Northeast, positioning it as a bridge to Southeast Asia in India's Act East vision.
